| Iestyn I know is very fond of Warrington. He lives here and his lad is at Rylands. He didn't particularly want to leave Warrington rlfc. He was sold on along with Paul sculthorpe in 2 unpopular deals that saved our club from bankruptcy!
I wonder just how much Wsnes recent success has been down to iestyn's guidance??

| If your intention is to divide my post as too correct each part in an attempt to make me look foolish, and to make yourself look very clever, then be certain your are right, otherwise it could reflect the opposite.
Iestyn going on strike! One player going on strike, listen to yourself!
I knew Iestyn around town enough to talk to him back then. He told me John Dorahy(who is probably the worst coach who did more damage in his time at Warrington than any coach in our history) refused to let him play while he was on a transfer, and told him to keep away!
Even Phil Larder knew how pathetic that was, and still had him playing a key role for the lions yet he couldn't get a game at Warrington.

| But did Harris engineer a move away from Warrington
He refused to play full back, an order given to him by 2 coaches, dress it up anyway you like, he refused to play for us,I call it going on strike.
P.S. If you think Dorahy was the worst coach, more damage, blahblahblah , you and Harris have probably forgotten Reggie Bowden, Steve Anderson, David Plange, and not forgetting the walking PR disaster that was Lowes.
True, Dorahy wasn't exactly Wayne Bennett, but he did get us a fifth place in the league, only a few months after we were a "basket case" resulting from 2 Stains wallopings in a fortnight.
Keep digging, duckie

| Reggie Bowden put together one of the finest sides we have ever had, the club just lost patience waiting for the click!
Steve Anderson inherited a team that had sold on or dispatched of all if its best players to survive, Harris, Sculthorpe, Batemen and a season earlier Davis.
I'm not saying he wad a good coach, but he working with a team like having a dirty bowl of water, and like he tried cleaning it with a bar of soap! He had a sows ear of a team from his first day.
David Plange, not fare to place him in that category. He inherited the same dirty water Anderson had, but I will say this for Plange, I remember that day Briers banged over 5 drop goals against Hull! I say that day helped save Warrington from relegation. So a thank you to Plange and Cullen is in order from me.
John Dorahy is the worst I've ever seen in my lifetime. He took on a role that seen a good, not great! team turned completely in to tatters.
No coach has ever overseen such a greater demise to this club, than it had while he was in charge!

| It's when people start dragging up Plange and Anderson, I start to fully appreciate where we are these days! Christ, they were some hard times. Dorahy was a pretty good coach and had us playing some half decent rugby, but was here at the start of some dark times financially for the club.

we were low with Anderson but it was dorahy that took a good team down there. Anderson perhaps took it down a bit further but the void of our demise came before that.

| I don't think it was the coaching that took us there though. The money pot was pretty empty by then, and we were working with the dregs of what was there.

Stop, no please stop.
You're hurting my sides now.
I used to feel a little sorry for you on here. Several posters had a bit of "school bully" attitude to you.
On this thread alone, I feel like telling them to carry on.

That's the funniest thing I've EVER read on the Internet. Well done!
Reggie Bowden inherited a team which had just finished 3rd in the previous sesaon's league, behind the two Hull clubs, when they were a REAL force. He then drove us into a relegation dogfight which lasted a whole season, and we escaped by the skin of our teeth. He bought such RL Collossuses to us, as Hussain M'Barki, Steve Diamond, and Dave Allen. May God have mercy on their souls. Peter Higham then brought over Boyd and Blake, as well as Rathbone and Tamati from the English game. I wouldn't trust Bowden to put together a 2 piece jigsaw'"

As I said previously. Dorahy took over a side which was mentally shot to pieces after 2 drubbings from Stains in a fortnight. He then took us to 5th in the table, and played some reasonable rugby to boot.
We then started 2007 in abject fashion, which timed exactly with Harris' dummy-spit. Spot the coincidence

I've done a search and found a piece that might help with some misguided opinions.
Going back to what I originally said, I would like to see Iestyn Harris as a coach of Warrington one. Still id be very happy should Smith stay forevermore.

| Would I have Harris back at our club. In a word NO
Back on thread, I say well done to the chairmen/owners who've had the balls to employ these British coaches.
Don't forget, all that glitters ain't (green and) gold.
Wigan have employed a few overseas coaches since their dominance ended (the rest of RL went professional - spot the coincidence), to little avail.
The Tony Smiths/McClennans/Andersons/Fadges of this world will always exist. But the Steve Simms etc will, too

What you mean is, Wigan have employed a few British coaches since their dominance ended, to little avail.
Wigan's dominance was when they were coached by overseas coaches: Graham Lowe, John Monie, Jon Dorahy and Graeme West.
Since their dominance ended they've used quite a few British coaches: Eric Hughes, Andy Goodway, Mike Gregory, Denis Betts, Brian Noble and Shaun Wane. Of these only Wane has won a major trophy.
The overseas coaches they've had since West left were Monie coming back for a season and a half (won Super League), Frank Endacott, Stuart Raper (won the Challenge Cup), Ian Millward and Mick Maguire (won Super League and the Challenge Cup). The only real dud coach there was Millward as in Endacott's only full season he topped the table and reached the GF.
I doubt Wigan would have had their current revival had they not gone Aussie again and brought Mick Maguire in.
A lot of what gets said about British coaches is just parochial bull, not based on any facts, but based on trying to say "British is best". Look at BarbedWire's post at the start where he is saying guys like Sean Long are doing 'fantastic jobs' as assistant coaches....Long has been moved on from Salford and Wigan this season and is now at Featherstone, in what universe is he doing a 'fantastic job'. And then saying Rob Powell is a 'fantastic coach' - London were absolutely dreadful under him. Yes some of that is not his fault but if he is a fantastic coach then Tony Rae is also fantastic.
The acid test on peoples opinions, really, is what they would think if one of these coaches was appointed head coach of their own club. It's easy to say "I think OTHER clubs should be applauded for appointing a British coach" but if Warrington follow Tony Smith with someone like Long or Powell then I doubt our fans will be applauding our board for making this appointment any more than they were gutted when James Lowes got booted out.
