| Always great or crap times at odsal. remember another close contest at headingly v bradford in the regal trophy final and
it was agians't a typically strong bradford pack but dessie lifted the trophy and we all ran on to and pitch at the end. the wire
side couldn't parade it around the ground as there were so many fans on the pitch. Memory is patchy nowadays but i remember
going to the semi at headingly about 5 years later and losing to a bradford side at the start of their golden period with players
including vaiklolo and we gave them a damn good game but the inevitable happened and we lost. I remember being
in the standing area of the brian bevan stand (some past posts have mentioned this game) when we were 20+ odd nil or 4 behind at
half time to a good bradford side and we came back- the catalyst being a kick off at the start of the 2nd half with danny nutley
taking on paul anderson and putting him in his place and we came back, backed by the roar of wilderspool to win something like
32-28.

| Quote ="Live Wired"I don't buy into this x number of players missing = poor performance. The players on the pitch today, were, deemed to be good enough to play for Warrington. Just the same as the players who play for Widnes tomorrow, are deemed good enough to play for Widnes. They are professional players, wether at Warrington or any other SL side. I draw the line at the players missing argument, when it's in the lower part-time leagues, where teams are affected by certain key players missing, or in Warrington's case, when Lee Briers is missing. As good as O' brien promises to be, you cannot go into a SL game with only 1 recognised HB.
Warrington are miles off last season's team ( good in the long-term), ie, fit for the end of season. But, any fan watching today, who thinks that we should be putting 50+ on every team, or blames the ref, is seriously deluded.
We seriously need a good hiding to knock this cockiness out of the club. This will be in France next week. The more worrying aspect, long-term, is when Briers retires. Myler is simply not good enough to move the team around, and O' Brien is still inexperienced.'"
What planet are you on? If you've been drinking I want some!
Here are the players that (for various reasons) didn’t play today.
1. Brett Hodgson/Stefan Ratchford
2. Chris Riley*
3. Chris Bridge
4. Rhys Evans
5.
6. Lee Briers
7. Richard Myler/Stefan Ratchford
8. Adrian Morley
9. Michael Monaghan
10. David Solomona
11.
12. Ben Westwood
13.
We are 1 point behind Wigan/Hudds. But people can still complain.
*I’ve included Riley, who did play. But, he is never going to be a FB. Was poor today, and I’m one of his biggest fans. Interesting reading posts saying he needs to do this or that or the other. The truth is he’s not an FB and never will be. I still give him some credit though, as throughout his career, he has done what has been asked of him, to the best of his abilities, and never let his head drop; until today.

| It's worth looking at our strength in depth now. This is a team of all British players who are 24 or under apart from Atkins who I think is 26. I don't expect it to win a lot of games at the moment, in fact it would possibly be bottom of the table, but it does give us a good base for the next 5-10 years with a sprinkling of imports to be added etc.
1 Ratchford
2 Williams
3 Evans
4 Atkins
5 Riley
6 O'Brien
7 Myler
8 Hill
9 Dwyer
10 Cooper
11 Harrison
12 Currie
13 McCarthy
14 Blythe
15 Laithwaite
16 Riley G
17 Mitchell

| Just read through all 5 pages & can't believe the amount of negativity that some people come up with. Smithy took a calculated risk to keep our senior players fit not only for next week but for the play offs @ the back end of the season, what's more it payed off & we won.
Not only that but he has given our youngsters valuble game time which will do their confidence a world of good & improve them for the future. Lets face it the majority of us here had not heard of Dwyer or Currie before this season & they have both come into the team & performed well.

| It was a very bold and positive decision by Smithy to leave so much talent and experience out. It paid off in plenty of ways as Lefty said, no harm done. The only negative I can think of is continuity of the team working together. But how much this will affect us next week, I've no idea.
It's definitely a bright future for Wire, I can't see why there's so many "pot half empty" people on here? Imagine being a Widnes fan, you'd be suicidal.
Slightly O/T - our effectively second string team beat a play-off contending side today. Does this again not highlight there's too many average teams in the league or too many places available in the play-offs?

Don't start this again. Leeds ARE the SL Champions. Wire won the League Leader's shield. You have to get to the GF and win it to be champions.

| and Tony Smith has so obviously decided that Challenge Cup and Grand Final can best be approached by rotating the squad more than he did last year. I guess home play off tie is the priority, not finishing top, although we'd all like that. We all hate seeing our team lose (although we've only lost away at Catalans and Leeds and at home to St Helens this year; we've beaten the top two away from home) but we'd soon forget even a loss away at Widnes if we win the Grand Final.

| I don't think anyone can really take anything away from yesterdays performance in general. The main problem was the lack of experienced playmakers so the lads had to come up with different ways of creating try scoring opportunities which ,in itself , limited our scope for actually scoring tries. Yes, there were some head scratching incidents at times but we managed to come out of it with a win.I was also pleased that we managed to keep our penalty count down.

What will Man City be next week?? (if they don't bottle it! )
Leeds are 'top eight' team, play off champions - by winning 3 games!
I do agree with the format though, because the RFL and Rugby League in general needs promoting, and this does the job.

Just comparing what is topical at the minute - my point being that not enough is done to celebrate winning the League, over a long season?

| I agree not enough is done to recognise the achievement, but what do we do?
I wanted us to win the LLS so badly last year because i thought it meant something, but i'll be honest the whole playoff system and the way we went out just leaves me feeling...pah.
I don't care about being top, just top 3 now.
In fact given a choice it's second every time now.
The club call is just too much motivation for the other team.

Plus we do need to start planning for life after Briers..

Bit of both....Definitely too many sides in the league - 10 would be ample.....The play-offs should be 5 sides max.
This definite gulf in class between top and bottom does nothing positive for the game. With the top clubs now brazenly resting groups of players for games with lesser clubs, in anticipation of more competitive matches, it can only lead to diminishing crowds and interest as a whole for the league campaign.
As a non-season ticket holder, what incentive was there for me to go to yesterday's match, when its apparent that the coach views the match as a 'lesser' game?......Yes, I can watch the 'future' of the club at work, but I have to pay full whack for it?????
I fully back the blooding of youngsters, but in the numbers and regularity that Wire and others are doing it, it is coming across as an insult to the competition as a whole.

| SL teams can't afford to be loising match-day revenue, by reducing the number of teams, unless we keep to 27 games by having a few teams play each other 3 times.
With regards to having too many teams in the play-offs, thus a dilution of quality, yes there are too many. But, last year's 4th team came to the HJ, and got nearly 50 put past them, without scoring a point themselves. Hardly an advertisement for quality.

Bloody hell fire, any more responces like that on here, and you'll be either banned or branded.
A totally un-myopic ( "o" level and above dont need a dictionary) reply to my quotation that I was trying to allude to. Basically, the cockiness that surrounds the club.
Take a bow young man. The point in question being Higham's decision to run the ball at the penalty. If, the Salford winger would have got a decent pass, he's away, and a defeat.
Wether you liked him or not, Andy Farrell would not have thought twice about taking the 2. Now there was a rugby brain...

Yes, we've yet to hit last year's standards, but, we didn't win the big one. We have time to reach our capabilities, THIS SEASON.
You talk of cockiness...I've yet to see/read/hear it. I'd love to know where you've seen/read/heard it.
P.S. Negativity? It's written all over your posts (regular digs at the side, bigging up Wigan, etc).
You're supposed to be a Warrington fan. I'm yet to be convinced.

set of forwards -Morley, Monaghan, Carvell, Benny, Harrison/Sol/Cooper, Grix, with massive potential in Waterhouse and all the
other players we've blooded so far. Myler and Briers will be back (still can't believe some of the idiots who slag Myler).
