Duckie is a parody account, isn't he??... Surely??
I really, really hope that when he posts absolute nonsense like his John Kear suggestion, that he is sat on his laptop p!$sing himself laughing and just doing it for the buzz of knowing that everyone else is shaking their heads at the stuff he posts on here?
Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure he might actually be serious.

ADHD, where the problem isn't HIS deficit of attention to everyday things, but his perceived deficit of attention to himself, from the rest of us.
Yes, we may bite (a bit like that "best squad in his lifetime" cobblers) . Maybe that's what he wants. Attention.
It's a pity, as he has A LOT of great things to say. Our equivalent of Jimmy Hill. Remembered for the 5% of tosh he came out with. I like the majority of what duckie has to say

| Is Henderson still with the Mighty Wire ? I can't remember seeing him at the games or hearing his name mentioned recently ,in fact i'm sure i read he was some kind of ambassador ,either for the club, RL or HMG.

Same happened in TS last season. Everyone wanted him out, no-one knew who they wanted to replace him.
The reason they reject your suggestion of Kear is because he's been around for a long time so you know what you're getting. It would be the same if someone suggested Noble. I think people really want to take a shot on the unknown and hope we hit the jackpot by unearthing a gem like Wigan did with Maguire.
It's also why people are moving on to Riley Dean now rather than Patton. Most of the people on here calling for him to get starts in the first team won't have seen him play or won't have seen much of him but he still offers the hope of the unknown, he could be the next Harris/Sculthorpe. Patton has played too much for anyone to still have that hope.
For what its worth I think Kear is underrated as a coach, he's like Graham Taylor was in football. It wasn't just his Cup wins with Sheffield and Hull....he was fantastic at Wakefield, pulled off the greatest escape from relegation in history and then made them a playoff team with no money and loads of problems off the field.

| If I were to be asked at this point I would go for Watson. Has achieved significant progress with a team that has repeatedly lost its playmakers.

The old Sally is back.
Great post. People only see what they want to see. Kear has done more for more teams that anyone I can think of.
As well as Sheffield and Hull, pretty sure he was behind the scenes at Wigan for one of their CC wins too.

| Nobody doubts Kear was a good coach, but he hasn't had a job of note for about a decade... It's the rugby equivalent of getting Alan Curbishley into do a job because he was quite handy back in the day.
I see Sally mention Noble. To be fair, if we were barmy enough to go the Kear route, then I'd actually take Noble before him, but Christ, surely it wouldn't come to that - It would just cap us off as the laughing stock of the league.

| Kear or Noble might work in a mentoring/football director capacity if we went for a young, inexperienced coach in the way that Sheens did with Watson, but that's all.
Sadly, I think when we do come to appoint a new coach it will be all aboard the down under gravy train to interview an other bunch of assistant coaches, or failed NRL wannabes who see SL as a way of getting some easy plus points back on the CV.

That's always going to happen because of the difference in quality and grade of the 2 competitions.
You can compare it to the difference between the English and Scottish football leagues.. Celtic and Rangers regularly have to sign players and managers who are simply using them as a rung on the ladder to get them to a better league - For example, everyone knows that Steven Gerrard is using his Rangers job as an apprenticeship for when Klopp leaves Liverpool. Similarly, Brendan Rodgers gets sacked at Liverpool, rebuilds at Celtic and then jumps ship at the first opportunity to get back into the PL.
The Aussie route is always going to be a gamble, but then so is the appointment of any new coach. It's probably where having a half decent chief executive, director of football, or whatever Karl Fitzpatrick is supposed to be, comes in handy.

Surely were all aware that anyone we tried to sign who was any good, didn't sign a contract and wear the P&B., especially in the prop department.

| Tbf decent props are like young decent halfbacks, rare on the market.
Its been a complaint at Wigan for a while now, saints have had to bring Graham back.
Leeds have struggled to replace peacock and have held onto cuthbertson past his best.

I think if we gave Anderson a squad number he would still do a better job than a couple on our current roster. Latu and Sita aren't worth the wage, Rob butler has a lot of potential as does Ellis Robson. Philbin is a good player to have for impact but on wet ground imthatbimoact reduces somewhat. We are still light one prop and should be looking for an established superleague prop IMO. Like you say though there aren't loads of options are there.

This is what I find utterly bizarre.
We are always hearing from clubs how much investment there is in junior development these days. Clubs will do press interviews explaining their great infrastructure now, how they take young lads, ensure they get good coaching, alongside schooling, coached in the same patterns that the first team are, to create a seamless experience and so on. Surely a million miles better than anything we had in the 1980s or 1990s in terms of formal infrastructure for developing young players.
Yet back then we had far more talented playmakers coming through than we have in the past decade or so. The argument was always that the modern era of professionalism has forced clubs to focus on guys with great physical attributes and just building athletes rather than talent. Fair enough I can accept that, so why the shortage of front rowers? Why aren't clubs churning out Stuart Fielden style battering ram props?
It feels like there is something obvious missing here. We don't produce the playmakers like Woods, Gregory, Schofield; we don't have exceptional athletes like Robinson, Offiah, Hanley and we don't even have strong front rowers any more. And the worst thing is....it seems to be getting worse! The standard of player coming through today is lower than it was in the 2000s. And yet the infrastructure for coaching and development seems to be so much deeper than it used to be.
I don't think the calibre of player in Australia is quite as good as it used to be either, although still far ahead of us.

There's been a good number of British forwards who haven't looked out of place in the NRL, currently, and very recently. The Aussies seem to believe that we do have talent.
