| Unsure Karetaker, but I think the DOR role is something that was really needed.
KP - spread too thinly - can focus on more of the non-rugby element, with the DOR reporting to him.
Whether Chambers is the right man or not, I don't know but he comes across as an honest and decent guy - just like when he was playing, but Id like to see the job spec for the role and how he measured up, and who else was considered.

| I'm sure I read marshall will stay on as first team coach. I think that's great support, even better if Long comes in as well. Lots of coaching experience there to help Sam out.
I'm quite excited about this to be honest.

Indeed. It is very fortunate that the best person in all the RL world for the DoR role was already in the club. Anyway good luck to him.

| I hope when Mike Cooper is finished with Wigan we can bring him in to the back room staff. Make him "head of performance" or something. Maybe Wigan could let him have some time off training to start learning the job now.

To be fair recognising that you have a problem is often cited as the first step on the road to recovery. I too wish Chambers all the best in his new role, at least the Club's hierarchy have concluded that all was not well with the structure of the Club and addressed it.
It pains me to use this particular football analogy, but City worked towards where they are now under Guardiola by putting their house in order first. The difference of course being that they seemed to have targeted their man and put all the 'back of house' pieces in place with Director of Football Scouting and Recruitment roles on the basis of 'what would Pep want?'
They didn't use their new found wealth to put in place what Pearce, Hughes or Mancini wanted, theirs was a bigger vision. However, I hope like them that we agree a plan and make sustainable progress and stop jumping from the frying pan into the fire every couple of years exciting though that can be.

I hope it's a true board level position with empowerment and not just a convenient deflection shield for the board and CEO.

i hope so too, as it's the only way to test the strategy, Chambers himself and legitimise the role.

That's what we want, isn't it? Focus on the business side of things and let others worry about what happens on the field.

| We had this kind of set up with Alex Murphy as Director of Rugby and Jon Dorahy as first team coach.
Murphy was in charge of recruitment and he said there'll be no more money at this club wasted on second rate players....although if you look at the players we brought in during that time....
I also remember him being asked at some kind of fans forum what the title Director of Rugby means and he gave a one word answer which rhymed with rollocks...

I remember it well. Was something of a Gerald Ratner moment and a collective "did he really say that?" gasp in the room.
Fair do's the atmosphere around the club was pretty toxic and the room full of lager fuelled Wire fans, so 10/10 for bottle but 0/10 for public relations

Pretty much, spot on
As a City fan of 46 years, I've seen it all.
The complete Muppetry of Peter Swales', the lunacy of Franny Lee. The club started to get a little balance when David Bernstein took over, but soon disappeared when we got the fruitloop that was Shinawatra.
Mansoor's money, brought in his best mate Khaldoon. He has world leaders on speed dial on his phone. Simon Moran has Gary Barlow, and Fitzpatrick has Ian Blease.
After the club sacked Mancini (but he WAS trusted with money....Yaya, Silva, Aguero), we tried to get Pep. We missed out, as he went to Bayern, but we got the next best things.....his mates Bergerastan and Sorriano from Barcelona. The club waited for Pep's Bayern contract to fizzle out, then pounced. The rest, as they say, is history. Bide your time and get the RIGHT man for the job

Or are they gonna conveniently leave it till they are time barred just like eufa did

That's a lot more easily done if you're the club with the most money in the whole sport like city were at that time. That's not what Wire are, superleague money compared to the NRL is like trying to attract pep as manager to one of the biggest clubs in the championship, probably someone like leicester city right now. Still good but just not at the same level financially or in terms of sporting standard. We can't afford the best and sadly superleague isn't the pinnacle of the sport where the best want to test themselves. Let's hope IMG can help to improve both situations.

I am secretly hoping he has brought his boots with him and can do a turn out on the fringes.
Hopefully it turns out well for Martin for the remainder of this season with his role within the team.

A wingers centre if ever there was one. Made space for his winger, powerful elusive runner.

Never forget the day wire signed him, onsite we was like pigs in muck at work.
When he was introduced as well HJ stadium the size of him, I thought he is going to cause havoc against defences.
How times change to what we have now.
