No offence Yed, but why would we want Widdop when we have Chris Bridge?

| Too many short memories already.
TS said Bridge is the best back in SL.
Dunno about him v Widdop as UR reflected, I haven't seen enough of him to draw on a balanced opinion

He was dropped because he was awful in a totally dominant performance by saints vs Cas. 9 tackles and 18 metres for 80 minutes of play.
We've known he's been going since about July.
As an outsiders point of view, it's a very strange signing - not the type of halfback you need at all - gob should grow into that though with time and patience...

No, he said over May he was the best 'in form' HB in SL, there is no way over a season Bridge is the best HB! Bridge is a very good player but I think you may be getting a bit too blinkered here RD.

| Why all this endless about Chris Bridge on every thread? Fucking sick and tired of coming on here and reading the same old crap. Change the record.
He's not that good. Not the best half in the league by a long shot, not the best centre in the league by a long shot. Just a half decent SL utility player who is prone to giving away penalties and shows the odd moment of class here and there. Nothing more.

Just over 50 games in 6 years according to a bit of Googling suggests more than a bit of latent bad attitude IMO.
One thing I will admit to RD (maybe now and again it wouldn't do you any harm to admit the same), is that I DONT REALLY KNOW, it's conjecture and opinion, compared to watching our players. I haven't seen anything like enough of Brough and Wheeler to have that opinion reinforced, or validated and presume rightly, or wrongly, that you haven't either? On the other hand, generally what you state is put across as fact, the definitive article which is a slight 'problem' for me, unless you are a super dual reg' supporter and nip over to Langtree Park on a regular basis whilst watching Hudd's on You tube in between our games.

| UR I think it was the 2nd try against us v Saints in the first game of the season.
I remember the try because of the solo skill he put on when he side stepped off his left foot twice and put a peach of an inside pass to someone. I can't remember who that was but the move he made could have put my granny through.
I can't remember too much about the whole game either as I probably want to forget about it.
Not too many trys stick out to mind but sometimes you have to admire brilliance, we've seen it at times within our own team throughout the season.
That move was the best move of the night and I had to applaud it, that's why it stuck in my head.
And yes Irish and UR I haven't on balance seen enough of him or Brough over the season, but I seen enough from Wheeler in that flash of brilliance that tops anything I had seen from a back at Saints this season including Walsh at the HJ on on tv.
I except that what Wheeler probably hasn't played sustained at that level, but as someone keeps posting class is permanent and form is temporary.
My clapping hands also followed a move to my shaking head as I knew then we were going to get battered and weeks of embarrassing defeats and a barrage of posts on here about sacking TS and things alike.

| Bridge said in a Twitter Q&A his favourite position to play is standoff. If Myler is to be shipped out (a whole other kettle of fish) will we see Bridge/GOB? Or is Bridge happy to play Centre despite preferring a HB position?
This will take me a while to figure out for certain, I'll be back with an answer in February.

| anyway.. back onto Brough.
Last season i think we gave away far to much field possession in key games with poor/weak kicking... This cant have gone unnoticed.
We only really had M.Monghan with a kicking game.. and he is gone now... Brough has the best kicking game in the league and would bring us something we are sorely missing.
Another weakness in the kicking game i saw last season was the kick to touch... Briers used to get us sometimes half the length of the pitch.. last season we were playing it safe and kicking 10 yards into touch... big difference between a tap on the oppositions 25 or the half way line.
I would welcome the Brough signing with open arms.. and for the record, i would play him at 7, with Bridge at 6 and move Ratchford to 1

| I don't think we will sign Brough.
He's a decent player though, and he does win some games. But he's nowhere near as good as Briers was.
Also when these comparisons come up about how Briers was supposedly this smoking drinking trouble maker, how come he was never unfit when he played for us? He didn't get injured very often and I never saw him huffing and puffing towards the end of games? I know on internet forums there were always stories about his 'lifestyle' but there was never much of an indication on the pitch that he was an off-field waster. I wonder how much of it just lived in the imagination of supporters.

| Fair comment MD.
Our kicking game has sucked from the kick off v Saints to the last dg attempt v Pies.
However that said, our type if game until this season hasn't been reliant upon a great kicking game.
Our game wasn't so dissimilar to Leeds and also how Cas played this season which is a running offload attack gaining field position and having the quality out wide to finish it off.
Unfortunately our injuries across the board have forced us to rely upon a better kicking game...that's where we've come unstuck!
I would like to see improvement in our kicking game, bring Johns over for another session perhaps?
Yet I wouldn't want to see a whole sale change of style by bringing in Brough just because our kicking game that we wasn't to reliant on in the past has let us down last season.
If we were to buy a no7 from a SL team, I would much rather hope to fix the injuries that cost us dearly over the close season and bring in a running half back like Burrow with a classic stand off style of Bridge £30 MD.
GOB is more of a stand off than scrum half type, so the jury is still out on him for a while IMO

Seriously? Since being a junior player he has played at the highest level and is an England international. The only thing that has held him back is various injury issues and he is far better than half decent!
Just ask Joel Monaghan about how good Bridge is.
