Winning and getting away with playing poorly does nothing for the team other than keep the table points accumulating. A defeat is actually more beneficial long term as you really take stock of where you failed and look to rectify it rather than think "we got away with that one, but we'll be alright next week".

| Quote ="lefty goldblatt"Sorry, but pish from beginning to end tonight.
The first half, we might as well as fielded Johnathon Ross' 4 mates and their piano, as apposed to our front 6. Dross.
As someone earlier posted, MonaghanM is so far off the pace, it's untrue.
Waterhouse is far from showing ANYTHING like NRL form.
Wood and Carvell look like they'd struggle to break into Swinton's starting pack at the mo.
Do we ACTUALLY have a plan B, when things go wrong. We continue to chuck the ball around like a live handgranade, when we are under the cosh. Keep hold of the ball for a couple of sets of six, and get a foothold back in the game. USE YOUR BRAINS, WIRE.
Plus points
Hill (again)
Higham (looking a lot better now)
Riley (again)
To even think about putting 1% of the blame Ben Thaler's way, is not only wrong, but pathetic. We stunk the house out, tonight. Thank God it's only Widnes next. Mind you, those simpletons 13 miles up the road got turned over by them, the other week.
No complacency Wire.
Onwards and upwards.'"
Agree with all that, but even Hill started with a stupid offload that was never on.
Really annoyed tonight, but shouldn't be because we've played like that on TV all season. No respect for possession, leaving the Sky commentators open-mouthed at 80-20 and 90-10 possession stats. Well sorry, but eventually someone is going to spank you, be it Saints or Salford.

| When one of your crumb of comforts is that Micky Higham was 'alright' you're buggered.
I do think though, whilst we were plop, Saints were very good in that firsty twenty, I know we gifted them field position etc but they were clinical.

Saints respected possession a lot more.
Shame they never respected Royce Simmons enough to play like that when he was in charge.

You would need to post on the football thread if you want to make statements like that. I'm having a Kenny Dalglish flashback.

| OMFG we were shocking let's move on. Saints rolled us in the first half and cored one try in the second. Move on, let's just smash them at their place. No prizes given out in March from what I can see. It will come.

| Completely agree with you we need to get back to basics and start doing the simple things well, see out each set of 6, kick and chase, build pressure and be patient
No need to panic id be willing to bet Tony Smith will be telling them in no uncertain terms that trying to score through outrageous offloads and hollywood passes with every play of the ball isnt on

It certainly worked for Saints. We got the narrow margin defeats and now it's sorted. Not that I'm saying yours is the same problem ours was, it most definitely isn't, but I do think the losses have more impact on a team than scraping the wins, especially at this point in the season when results are less important.

| That Warrington performance was poor but similar to what I've seen from them all season. Poor ball control and silly basic errors, although up until tonight they have been getting away with it. Saints did tonight what Wigan failed to do last week. Take advantage of your silly errors and they made you pay with some great attacking play. Roby totally dominated the ruck and his short passes gained easy yards. Some suicidal offloads deep in your own half and some uncharacteristic and unforced errors from your star players, in particular Hodgson cost you massive amounts of field position. Although the good thing going in your favour is you've got plenty time to work on all the idiotic offloads and iron out the silly handling errors in time for when it counts so I wouldn't worry about tonight too much. I couldn't believe some of the wild blind passes/offloads you where throwing tonight.
I do think it's a tad unfair though how a lot of people are simply not giving saints any credit tonight for what was a great performance by them, slackened off a bit in the last 25 minutes or so but I expected that after their efforts early on. Defensively they where pretty solid and their attacking play was what you would expect from Saints. And I think some of the intensity and pressure they put early on forced Wire into panic mode.
The ref wasn't great but again he was poor both ways and made some bad calls, Wellens over reacted which was quite funny, and the ref bottled it there but I'm still confused as to how Warrington ended up with the ball on that one.

| Hey guys we had a nice night out at the H+J and came a way with a win which I put down to our traveling support who were in full voice you have to admit.
This was my first trip to the H+J and was very impressed with the layout of your stadium,,,,, why-O-why didn't someone see reason to do the very same at Langtree park ?
We stole the first half, you won the second half arm wrestle but by then it was too late for you to recover....
As Arnie once said "We'll be back"
Regards Jock

Don't know what you have against Micky Higham, always strong in tackles, great view of the field and an excellent player of the ball. Always seems to pull through when no-body else does.

| Like mentioned previously we have been playing rubbish and scraping through games all season but tonight was the worst performance i have seen for a long time. Every offload was pounced on, basic passing went to the players feet. Defence was shocking. Also is it just me or do we concede too many tries from a simple flat pass.
