| Just seen the Austin incident on highlights on Twitter, from the angle it’s shown I’m not sure what he did wrong.

| There's some poor footage on sky. Whether the tackle is complete or not is irrelevant. McGuire is the nearest Rovers player and he is apoplectic as is Drinkwater. The Rovers physio comes straight on too. Looks like Austin elbows the back of Tomkins head. Looking at a long ban i reckon.
We look a different outfit this year and could go well injuries permitting.
Don't mind Wire good luck for the rest of the season

Well, he got tomkins before tomkins could get him.
Theres nothing there is there. The ref didnt give anything, the kr players didnt react or run in on response to the hit.

| Just looks like an aggressive flop. If that is all the footage the RFL have they are going to have a difficult job being objective. In any case it's nothing that Tomkins hasn't dished out before so he can hardly complain.

You must have watched a different version to me, because the one I've seen McGuire is playing on till Jack Hughes picks the loose ball up, then starts moaning at the ref.
There's bugger all in it, it was an accident.
And I'm Joel knows the difference between accidents and intentionally hurting an opposition player.

| Said at the time there was nothing in it. The tackle wasn't complete, Tomkins was about to undoubtedly get up and continue his run, Austin stopped him. Describing it as a flop paints it as something worse - a flop is a player coming in late on top of an already tackled player. This wasn't that. He completed the tackle.

| Yes clearly nothing in it. An innocent flop which leaves a player concused in hospital. It's not Austin's knee so what does make contact with his head?
By your lots logic any player shooting Les Boyd would have been justified.

Its rather hard to tell from that footage, don't you think? He was legitimately allowed to tackle Tomkins. Yes, it was a full on hit, but when isn't it in rugby league??? Nowt to do with our lots logic. I was sat just in front of where the tackle happened. I don't believe it was malicious. But Christ, he wasn't about to let Tomkins get up and carry on yomping up field.
Wish your lot all the best this year BTW. McGuire is older than a Conker tree but he's still classy.

He's justified in making the tackle. He's reckless though. It looks like h e goes across the back of his head with his elbow as his knees seem to miss.
The logic i refer to is some of the comments justifying Tomkins being hurt.
Good luck to y ou. Hill is the best prop in the league.

| I was also sat level with the incident and couldn't see anything wrong from the view from the opposite direction from the camera. Tompkins was initially stopped, but wasn't tackled and Austin dove on to him to complete the tackle. I didn't see any problem. Strange how it was initially being described on here by the opposition as Tompkins being kneed in the head.

| His knees were nowhere near, and as for it being an elbow I can’t see it in that clip. Like others have said I saw it as legitimate tackle at the time as the tackle was not completed,in the hands of the buffoons at RFL now.

WTF were you watching McGuire goes mad as soon as Austin makes contact. There's a better view on twitter. The prick gets him with his knee. If reports are true about Tomkins injury Austin should be looking at months banned. It's no innocent flop. Rovers were clearly getting the better of the game and another attack had broke down Austin has got frustrated and reckless.

| The version i have just watched looks like mild contact as ,expected in any game, with the ribs. Are we sure Joel didn't fracture his skull at some other point in the game ?

Tasi was replaced because he had a severe cut. Requiring 16-18 stitches.

| Theres contact with the head, so I expect a a review and an over inflated ban due to the media, Sheens, faux outrage from fans etc. but that’s par for the course when someone gets injured.
For me it’s silly, a bit over aggressive and a sin bin is about right to manage the game.
The alarming thing from watching the reply is that Patton completely bottles it from either catching the pass or at minimum getting in the way of Tomkins. He steps to the side, I assume in self preservation. It’s poor.

The video on Sky Sports is clear enough to see Austins knees are no where near the tackle. Looked to me like Tomkins head hits the ground rather than any limb causing a possible fracture. Rugby players know they are at risk of these kinds of injuries but because of all the fuss coming from KR and the media unfortunately he will get a ban.

| Yes, fuss and faux outrage from Hull KR. James Goulding and Andrew Heffernan have had to retire due to concussion. No bleating or moaning over those incidents i re call. Do excuse is if we point out one of your players made reckless contact with someone's head leaving them hospitalised with a possible skull fracture. Knee \elbow it doesn't matter at this point he clearly goes towards Tomkin 's head. Rashford comes in second over his legs which was more of a late flop so why did the ref send Austin to the sin bin. McGuire instantly is upset.
Austin is looking at a lengthy ban. Which is no use to Rovers.

What are you saying here ? What is ' a play on the NN/W side'. Do you mean there is footage of the game from the NW, if so, can you show the clip ?
Then the quotation that you made; [i:1ncev2xiAustin flopped on him, leading with his elbow into the nape of the head to neck area'.[/i Who made this, was it overheard from the linesman ?

Nobody wants to see a player injured and out of the game for any length of time, but it happens. I didn't see any contact to the head from where I was stood, and the footage is inconclusive.
Therefore, I'm not saying there was or wasn't, I honestly don't know. It will be dealt with on Tuesday, when there's hopefully footage from the North Stand side, together with the officials report to determine what case there is to answer. Until then (or for years into the future), we can all carry on arguing the toss from a different view point.
