| I also have more fond memories of the 09 Semi final as my children were along with a few other children Warrington mascots. Wigan put their mascot opportunity on EBay headlined "Money can't buy opportunity to be the Wigan mascot". I sent them a message asking what method of payment did they accept? I never got a reply.

| Quote ="Barbed Wire"It's one of the games we first look for on the fixture list, but which Wire v Wigan game game have you enjoyed the most?
For me, the 1997 game at Wilderspool would be mine, a hat trick for Vagana and some great tries by Penny and Tatupu against a strong Wigan team. Also, with Murphy as a stand in coach assisted by Paul Cullen IIRC.
But boy, have there been some crackers!'"
I never got that excited by that game as I thought that particular wigan side Was garbage, It was clearly not the same side that had dominated the league and cup for years.... I was glad we won dont get me wrong, Seeing as we hadnt won a single game yet, but it wasnt in the same ball park as most other Wigan Wins. I think it was celebrated more because it was our first win of the year and our coaching teams first game.
the side we beat in 97 was
Murray; Ellison, A Johnson, Radlinski, Robinson; Long, Smith; Cowie, Cassidy, O'Connor, Haughton, Tallec, Farrell. Substitutes used: Hall, Murdock, Holgate.
the side we beat in 86 was
Hampson Lydon Stephenson Russell Gill Hanley Edwards Case Kiss Lucas West Potter Goodway
world War 3 was a bit special... New years day 1988, fans locked out, plenty off biff, More Biff and even more Biff, and Les Boyd doing what he often did but rarely getting the credit he deserved and that was Playing Rugby League like no other prop forward could. had we won that game it would be my favourite But a draw felt like a loss... So its the 86 semi for me because Paul Bishop was just taking the mickey with those drop goals

I've just watched it and sure enough, Hicks goes in, Dave Woods declares - that's it, Warrington are at Wembley! Cue big grin on face! It really was special getting there in 2009 after so many years of missing out on the big moments.

| A game in 2000 when we got hammered and the Fletcher St were shouting "you fat b..." at the Wigan players and O'Connor and Cowie were both pointing at each other.

This one has fond memories for me:
www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seaso ... mmary.html
I'd been to a few games before this that I can't remember but this was the first of me attending regularly. It was the 2nd game of what became a 14 consecutive wins streak, which partly explains me getting hooked! Although the bigger reason was the draw of watching a family member playing in the first of his 3 seasons with the Wire. The first half of that season was brilliant. Sadly it tailed off a bit after Christmas, losing to Wigan in the JP Final at Burnden, to Bradford in the Challenge Cup and to Wigan again in the Premiership at Old Trafford.

Wigan Lost four Games that season .......once to the Touring Australians, once in the Cup to Oldham, and Twice in the league to the Wires....
The season did tail off and we ended up finishing third...........
*Note to club.... dont Sell one of the best scrum halves of all time to your title rivals half way through a season

| All right pop-pickers? NOT ARF
Here's the Goldblatt Top 10
10. 1987-88. (h) World War III, just a pity we managed to snatch a draw from what seemed an easy win, at one stage.
9. 2005 (h) We were walking it, then they had a comeback with 10 mins to go, and got within 6 points. Kevin Brown had an attempt INCORRECTLY ruled out, on the hooter (I was stood in front of it, in the Wigan end, he grounded it perfectly....they were NOT happy)
8. 2007. (h) Kevin Penny ripping the p155. Wigan Walk
7. 1986-87. (h) One of Johnno's finest games. Wigan Walk.
6. 1986-87. (a) We won 6-4. Piddled it down, all match. Cullen try. Wigan Walk.
5. 1990-91. (a) A Basil Richards special after being on the field for only half a minute. Even Dead Dog Duffy played. He was tosh. Wigan Walk.
4. 2009 CCSF. I never went. First day of holiday. Managed to get in front of a telly, just as the players were walking out. The way MonaghanM took the pee out of Fat Feka still brings a smile.
3. 1997 . Vagana brilliance, and the emotion of the short lived Cullen/Murphy partnership. We hadn't beaten the "so'n'so's" at Wilderspool for 11 years (dodgy reffing, Russell, Fred, Robin etc)
2. 2001 We were atrocious to start with. A pensionable Denis Betts (iirc) took the mick. Then we blitzed them via Briers and Langer. Then they came back via Farrell and Radlinski, only for a Lee Penny special right at the death. Cue delirium on the terraces, and several Stellas quaffed in town straight after. Probably my favourite Wilderspool night. SILLY SKY.
and at number one, Rugby League fans,
1986 Prem semi. My first victory seen at the Pie Dome. 5 drops for Bishop and a trademark Mark Roberts try off an Andy Gregory pass. Those were the days. My first Wigan Walk seen. There's no finer sight in sport.

Leaving the insurance claim valuation to one side.
It is excellent business. A contracting construction market, giving better returns on outlay. Add to that, historically low lending rates, even if the lending was, selective (not having the pre-requisite assets preclude certain types) it was very good business.

Was Brett Dallas I think not Brown, if it's the same game I'm thinking of (first one vs us at HJ). I was right infront of it as well. I was fuming
Little did we know, how bad of a run we'd have at your ground after that as well.

Aaahh yes, all wonderful especially (6) which was on new years day, a few days after we'd snotted Widnes in the John Player Semi courtesy of a Brian Johnson try coming off a Gary Sanderson pass that I can see in my minds eye even now.
I'd agree with the prem semi, in fact the Widnes, Wigan & Fax games were all wonderful, but the Wigan one was a performance of class, arrogance and audacity that had em choking on their pastry for weeks.
