| Quote ="Charlie Sheen"I've seen more good games of RL on Sky so far this season than I saw in pretty much the whole of last season. There's been some close games, there's been some onesided games - that won't change and happens in all sports.
I can't believe the amount of bitterness and self pitty on this board. Blame the play-offs, blame the league structure, blame the salary cap. Blame everything it seems except your own teams inability to win the GF. I'm sure if you had won SL last year this thread wouldn't have been created.
And did I really see someone name 'League Freak' as a credible critique of our game?
'"
I have never understood the obcession league fans have with one sided games. Man United have been winning incredibly one sided games for years yet I don't hear complaints from their fans, or the millions of other people who watch them religiously.

| i think nearly 20 years of it, its become accepted as the status quo, even i as a non premier league football fan felt weird last year when another team, city especially won the title.
this year, it feels back to normal.

| i think if wire had won the g-f last year it would at least have given the grand final some credability ,having finished 2nd in the regular season, being pipped to the llc by one point!as for this season, personally im not too bothered about our results at present as i have learned it does not really make any diff till the back end of the season, and like other posters have stated, most teams are already resting players to keep fresh for the g-f run in,and that ,imo, have taken the edge of some games for me,its reached a point where im now not really bothered about going to games anymore, and i have been a s-t holder for more years than i care to rem!also i think we have a right to *moan* as some put it,having forked out for a s-t and end up watching meaniless early season games, also , imo,the league positons of some of the teams are false,as i think teams are not catching up with the top teams, its more like the top teams are saving there best till end of season run in to the g-f,and that for me has made the early rounds a bit pointless, from a spectators point of veiw anyway, like i say,its my own opinion, but i have to agree with the o-p,something is sadly wrong at with our game at the min.

| The mighty Wire took two extreme batterings last season at Salford and Broncos. Seems they weren't exactly busting a gut to win those two matches.

| I think the 2 batterings you are on about Brian Brady are the week before Wembley when we fielded a weakened team & the game at Salford where we fielded a weakened team. I think they were supposed to be both experimental teams as well to show how much strength in depth the Mighty Wire had but the reality on the pitch was different to what the management imagined.

| Interesting debate.
The fact that we are even discussing it tells its own story.
On another note, does anyone know what Brian Barwick has done for RL or what he is currently doing for RL?

| There are many areas of the game that we all feel can be improved but I believe it is time for all fans to get behind the game in this country and give it there support otherwise it will fade away at the expense of the NRL.

| Thats a nice sentiment Doc but im afraid the players are leaving in their droves and so to are the fans.
The game, in its current format, is a joke.
Whats the last signing to SL that got you excited? Matt King? Adrian Morley?
When did anyone last see a really big hit or decent biff?
When did you last see 2 teams rip in to each other leaving nothing in the tank?

We're discussing it because you started it, you pillock. It's people like yourself who are doing the game down. every time anything happens, it doesn;t matter whether it's positive or negative, people like you just do the game down.

Of course its a joke Col ....
and for an even better laugh I'm just off to the the NRL forum to laugh at the state of the Aussie Game.....
as a rough guide I'm going to mention the lack of talent in their game that they are now raiding a second rate competition and signing players like Scott Moore, Lee Mossop and Pat Richards Im going to tease them a bit and ask when is Menzies going back to Manly ....ho ho...
I'll then laugh at how the highlights reel from one of their local channels in an attempt to make the NRL look spectacular unfortunately shows an entire two minutes of a collection of the now outlawed shoulder charges.
I'll Laugh at the number of one sided scorelines in the NRL this year and the number of times a team has failed to score in match this year.
I'll laugh at the fact for all that they preach about being so superior their premier team the Melbourne storm has been stripped of many titles for cheating and they play the most boring rugby on the planet (apparently its called sticking to structures) and do not pass the ball more than one out in their own 40.....ever.
I'm going to mention that the league is full of money mercenaries that would drop their game like a dirty stick if they could get money elsewhere like the sonny Bills and Israel Folau's of the world.
I'm going to mention the fact that since Lockyer has retired the Aussies dont have a world class stand off and at test level they have to play two scrum halves at 6 and 7...and not to mention a full back on the wing.
I will however congratulate them for having a mid season competition called the origin series but its hardly an even contest anymore. and the challenge cup has been around much longer and aussies get up in the middle of the night to watch famous old teams compete in that.
I'll sadly mention the fact that they may have lots of youngsters coming through but sadly they havent replaced the Shane Webkce's, Gordon Tallis', Darren Lockyer's of the world and they're just from one team never mind not replacing the Freddie Fitlers and Andrew Johns of the world.
or do you think there is an Australian version of you who has already told them.........

FINALLY!!! Somebody gets it.
So many opinions on the NRL, particularly from people on these forums are made based on dramatic adverts and highlights reels put together by Channel 9. People think that there's never blow out scores, every game is high intensity played in front of 30,000+, the referees NEVER get anything wrong etc etc etc. It really is laughable.

| Oh, and on the subject of Melbourne. They have been in the NRL since 1998, correct me if I am wrong but this year is the first time they have had a Melbourne born lad play for them. Do you think Aussies shriek about that like we do over London/France? Likewise, do they worry about the amount the dodgy origin eligibility?

No, everything isn't fine and dandy, but the game needs its own so called supporters to stand up and support it. I can only remember one positive post that you've made on this Site. you constantly slag all aspects of the game off, yet you claim to support it.

Nobody ever goes into any game without wanting to win. However subtle psychological issues might just cloud that during the game; for instance if certain players are being rested might give the opposition a boost whilst undermining the confidence of our team particularly if the game plan doesn't work out.
That is very different than not wanting to win.

But is that because until a few years ago losing meant potentially missing out on the play offs? Where as now it is pretty much guaranteed for us.

| I am not sure it does some him up. I think 'pathetic' is more appropriate. If you go through life moaning like this all the time you are going to end up as a sad old man. If you dislike the game so much you should go and find something that gives you some joy. Life is too short as it is without wasting it.

I wonder if their forums are full of fans saying they should have promotion and relegation, and all the league games are meaningless because 8 teams get in the playoffs?

| The games this year have been a lot closer. Widnes have been more competitive than last year and despite their financial troubles, Cas have done well with their limited resources. It's such a shame that Saints are slowly dropping towards the bottom 4 and look certainties for the drop when we come to the end of the licensing period.
