Indeed! And Wire and neutral fans all have a lot of time for Tony as he's a really nice bloke and comes across as just that. Do we all think that about Maguire when he condones his players for ill-play? This would make a difference in any walk of life, not just rugby. And yes, it is 3 trophies each.

I think you all missed the important bit that he said, 'in less time'. Maguire has been at Wigan 2 years (2010 - ) and won 2 cups, Smith has been with you (2009 - ) 3 years and won 3 cups.
As for the sly dig, I can't say I enjoy watching wire play, just like I don't enjoy watching saints play or leeds.

| Maguire and Smith are the best two coaches in Super League by a country mile, and any other club would swap their current coach for either of them in a heartbeat if they were given the chance.
There really isn't any need for tit for tat arguments about them. They're both outstanding.

Your point being what?
You don't like expansive rugby, or you don't like watching rivals play?
Out of interest apart from Wigan, who do you like watching ?

| A decent coach is what we have been lacking for many years, the final missing piece of the jigsaw like a previous poster has put we need to sign him on a loooongggg contract. It worries me that he may well move on if/when we win the Gf thinking job done and look for a "new challenge"

I can't say I disagree with that. My previous post was only to point out what someone else had said, not to have a go at Tony Smith or wire for that matter. Of course it's the usual barrage of abuse on here.

I can't see any barrage of abuse about any of your comments on this thread. You made some pertinent points, some agreed with you, some didn't. That's not abuse. For what it's worth Smith and Maguire are certainly the two best coaches in this country at the moment, although it is very difficult to compare them as they have completely different methods.
If you want an example of abuse have a look at the personal stuff I got on your site from one of your posters at the weekend, or maybe a few of us could send you copies of the personally abusive pm's we got from one of your female posters a few weeks ago.
Rant over, I think I'd better take a tablet and have a lie down.

Please don't tarnish Smith's name by associating him with that bloke. Mourinho is basically Allardyce with a massive transfer budget.
It will be interesting to see how long Smith stays at Warrington - how long left on his current contract?

Allardyce never won the UEFA Cup or Champions League though. And Mourinho did that at Porto where he didn't have much money.

| Fantastic Coach. He always watches the opposition warm up to see if there's any week links in the team or if a player is carrying an injury. I think Moran should give Tony whatever he want's so he stays.

Without wishing to derail the thread, the UEFA Cup is not massively difficult to win, while the CL that Mourinho's Porto won was a very odd year. Real and Bayern played each other early, Barca weren't even in it, Depor knocked out AC Milan after losing the first leg 4-1, Porto were somewhat jammy to knock out Man Utd, and it was the year Chelsea should really have won the whole thing, but didn't due to Ranieri's bizarre substitutions in the semi-final.

| Wigan fans will say Madge and Wire fans will say Smith.
Both top coaches as their records show (bar Smith in the World Cup when he made several c0ck ups but I won't hold that against him....honest).

He sounds just like Tony Smith then, Tony is basically Jon Sharp but with Simon Moran's millions to spend. In fact Sharp did better with Hudds than Smith did. Smith gets all his credit for winning the Challenge Cup when Warrington had a jammy late win against Hull KR, and managed to avoid the Challenge Cup kings Saints, same happened the year after they had a lucky draw, avoided Saints and got a Leeds side on the decline and with injuries in the final. It wasn't that hard to win the Challenge Cup those years Warrington did it.

It's too late, you have derailed it. What excuses are you going to come up with as to why he won it with inter milan?

| Comparing the two best coaches in Super League is one thing, but comparing a two time European Cup, Uefa Cup, league titles in three different countries, and domestic cups in four different countries winning manager to Sam Allardyce?

| TS has nothing to prove other than to himself imo. Circumstances (and quality opposition) made the England job almost impossible to make a success of and quite possibly we are further away from Aus and NZ in terms of competitiveness than we have ever been. Maybe Tony's outlook on his career has changed since joining Warrington as he has full control over all aspects of coaching at the club which is something I don't think he had previously. Most of us would dance down Winwick Road if he signed another three or four deal but his record suggests that probably won't happen.
