'87. I remember what Shane MacGowan said about that; "we were beaten by two queens and a drum machine".
FONY was ONE of the best songs ever never to get to number 1, the other one was in '81 when Vienna by Ultravox was denied top spot by the annoying Shaddap You Face by Joe Dolce. Simply shocking!

| These "anti X factor" songs which get promoted on facebook are not Christmas songs either, I didn't see the Christmas message in Rage Against the Machine other than having a line which is probably shouted by every ungrateful 6 year old brat when he gets asked to put his presents away and get dressed up to go and see his Grandma.
I would like to see "Another Rock N Roll Christmas" by Gary Glitter get back to number one, at least it is about Christmas themes, watching the children kiss under the mistletoe, kids rockin' in their stockins' and getting a Big Surprise, it reminds me of Christmases as a kid round my uncles. They never even play that in shops at christmas time any more it's the same old pom-pom-popapom-can-you-stop-the-cavalry and other rubbish.

I did a Xmas disco for the kids at school last year, and was strictly instructed NOT to play Another Rock N Roll Christmas.

| We had an "anti-political correctness" Halloween fancy dress party when I was at uni, it was supposed to be a night out but it's hard to get let in anywhere when your group is dressed as Hitler, Bin Laden, a Minstrel Boy with blacked up face, an 'IRA terrorist" (with a balaclava and camoflaged jacket) and Gary Glitter. I was probably the tamest character as Papa Lazarou from League of Gentlemen. The lad who was Gary Glitter just customised an Elvis costume and wore some bling. As we couldn't get let in anywhere we just had a house party instead. But this made for great fun when the trick or treaters came. There'd be a knock on the door and we'd take it in turns to go and answer it, eg I'd peer through the letterbox and say "Is Dave there? Hello Dave?" or the IRA guy would open the door with his balaclava shouting and swearing at the trick or treaters in an Irish accent, Bin Laden had Twix's sellotaped to the inside of his robe as a 'suicide vest' to give the kids, and Gary Glitter would go to the door with a bag of midget gems going "Dy'a wanna be in my gang my gang my gang...? Im the LEADER Im the LEADER" The look on some of these kids faces was priceless. It still makes me chuckle to this day remembering 'Hitler' trying to persuade some of them to come in and join our house party, and then shouting down the street after them in a Geordie accent "don be like that! we've got Stella's 'ere an everythin!"

Pretentious dross, it's not just the chavs that are muppets.
It should have been renamed the surgery waiting room

| I love Jupiter - Holst, it's the most epic piece of classical music i've heard, it goes everywhere, i'm quite sure a journey to Jupiter wouldn't be half as fun.
