To be honest, I wasn't sure what we were getting as I don't follow the NRL. Anyhow I do agree that he is playing well at the moment but, as you concede, this is after a long period of underperformance made more noticeable due to the build up to his arrival and the speculations on the high contract value. Therefore, taken in the round, I believe he has not been value for money and has some way to go to make up for the slow start. I really hope he does.

I don't think King will ever get much credit for what he does, for the the simple fact his alleged salary will always be a millstone around his neck.

You may be right. But, of course, when you negotiate and agree an alleged high value contract, you accept the high expectations that rightly accompany it.

king is the form centre in super league and has been for a while,recently i think he has been outstanding.

It does seem high, remember a certain percentage is/was paid in overseas image rights though.

Is that an intended understatement? If it was remotely close to that figure, it would put him far and away the best paid player in SL. I think we all know who/what the answer to that question is.

When he signed, I do remember the press, might have been the Aussie press, saying King's the highest paid centre in the world. Pretty sure they quoted figures of something like $1.6m Australian dollars, whatever that exchanges to...

a massive let down has to be kevin campion. he came over with a big rep, saw wilderspool and had it on his toes. didn't even give it a shot. 4 grand final apperances and 6 soo apps. reckon he could have been a good player for us.

Don't I remember reading somewhere that there are only four (or was it five) people who know what King's salary is? I'm sure that "inner-sanctum" will take the information to the grave with them, the rest is pure conjecture.

Don't care who this upsets but i suggest Andrew Gee. He thought one brilliant performance against bradford excused him being s**t the rest of the time. All it did was show how good he was when he could be ar**d. He really did my head in.

For me it was Steve "blocker" Roach. He had nothing but an extended holiday for us whilst Les Davidson played his heart out in every game. I remember at the time being really let down over his apparent lack of effort and commitment. World beater in Aus mediocre at best over here.
