| OK Penny didn't have a great season last time round, but he was in the Super League dream team in 2007, and has scored many tries that no other winger from this country since Brian Carney has been capable of. I realise his defence needs work, but the attacking edge is still there.
If we release him, he will join another Super League club not Widnes. Pickersgill I reckon might get a game with the Celtic Crusaders, who are basically an NL1 team anyway, but more than likely end up with a permanent contract at Widnes or Leigh.

I hope they both do well but I think Penny has little talent for the game of rugby league other than he is pretty fast but not the fastest, Picks on the other hand surprises me I thought he had the makings but since his injury has moved backwards he if any out of the 2 may stand a chance of return if he performs Penny is a lost cause though imo if he stood any chance he would have been in the squad to play Hull but after he was omitted from that squad seeing we had so many injured wingers said everything ,I hope I am wrong about him but that's the way it looks and it looks like Smith and Lowes are seeing it that way as well !

England Academy player,
Dream Team player 2007,
Picked by Tony Smith for GB train on Squad
Scored Amazing tries beating very good sometimes World Class players on the Way.
The best TRY scorer this clubs had since Jonathan Davies or Phil Blake
I was I could have been that bad a winger
you should weep at the five drives down the middle that we are destined to play over the next few months while our team of Internationals get back to basics.....

| Surely the logic behind this is simple.
Penny isn't in the team at the moment because he's down the pecking order behind Hicks, King, Mathers and Riley of whom two will be the wingers on any one game.
Pickersgill isn't in the team because he's down the pecking order behind Morley, Carvell, Rauhihi, Wood and Cooper.
So they've been playing in the reserves.
Paul Cullen needs players to strengthen his squad so he's asked Warrington can he get them in, and we've said yes.
I don't see why this is being seen as beckoning the end of their Warrington careers?

| Pickersgill is okay and Penny should be a threat given ball in space, hopefully loaning players from our Neighbours wont be happening to often. I look forward to kicking ass in 2012.

I don't recall any players with reasonable first team experience being loaned out in the recent past.

Leeds have loaned out plenty of players in the past, and continue to do so. It is a strategy that has brought some success for them, so let's give it a go and see what happens. As has been said, what have we got to lose.
As Sally has said, I don't necessarily think this means it is the end of their careers with Wire.

Widnes' team is in turmoil at the moment. They're coached by Cullen.
It's a disaster for both players.

I looked back at Kevin Penny's stats on slstats.org, and even last year when he was getting stick he scored a brilliant hattrick against Saints at the HJ, where he skinned Gardner (he also had one disallowed), and scored a great hattrick against Wakefield too. Even in a difficult season for him, he still showed glimpses of brilliance with ball in hand.
As for your last point, I was worried under Lowes, but I think our style is getting better under Smith. Most of our tries are scored out wide, and I think it was always accepted that we would need a more conservative style than previous years, certainly in the short term. I certainly wouldn;t describe it as 5 drives down the middle though.

Quite. Hull FC are the official dullers of the league, we play the game with a million times more gay abandon than they do.
Penny had a reasonable season last year, with one notable error in a game in which he'd been superb. Lowes didn't get on with him for whatever reason and he was out. Lowes was later shown to be a donkey.
We certainly don't know enough about what's gone on to comment for sure, but what I am pretty certain of is that Smith wouldn't be packing Penny off to Widnes if he rated him.

Even Barrie Macdermot called our plays correctly in the Hull game we were that predicatble...
but yes i appreciate I'm being Harsh ...im just absolutley dissapointed that with the quality across the field we undoubtably have we can not find room for a young Winger with plenty still to learn but is without doubt the best and most exciting attacking threat weve had for years........

In his first season at Leeds he had Nick Scruton out at Hull and Carl Ablett, Liam Botham and Scott Murrell at London. In his second year he had Chris Feather out at Wakefield and Wayne McDonald at Wigan.
Murrell never really made it at Leeds and McDonald's loan was a precusor to him being moved out, but the other four all went onto feature in Smiths teams when they came back.

| I can see Pickersgill having more of an impact than Penny.
I hope we get Pickersgill back but wouldn't be that concerned is the Penny move became permanent. I can't see Widnes using him to his full potential and he could end up another Nicky Royle. I know Penny has shown lots more potential that Royle ever did before anyone points this out.
