| He doesn't have to single anyone out, just something along the lines of (generic stuff)
Line speed was slow, reading of the play was off, the kicking game wasn't good enough, we didn't play smart enough, our players can't catch a bal for toffee.
Not, it was pretty even, we could have nicked it with a bit more luck.
Seriously who is he kidding, certainly not us.
Tell what is happening, the players are getting a hammering on twitter by fans, they don't need the abuse but they're getting it.
Maybe that stems from the frustration of the perception that the coach isn't seeing the glaringly obvious?

And I don't think he is naive.'"
I apologise, my wording probably reflects my annoyance and frustration. I should have said that I think it is difficult for Smith to admit the failures / mistakes that were made on the pitch without further damaging the players morale. If anything, the complete lack of criticism should be sending warning bells that Smith is worried.

No worries, I think we are all pretty frustrated atm. I agree that it is a fine balancing act between transparency and damage limitation when dealing with the media during difficult times. I still think TS is the man for the job, it's just his personality/ego.. call it what you like, that sometimes gets my goat.
Now the Wire.

Though it pains me to say it, coming out and giving an honest public appraisal has worked well for Wane and McDermott over the last couple of years.

Fair point, the Hull coach also spoke on Radio 5 with refreshing honesty after the derby loss a couple of days ago. It's a tricky one, you have to balance giving a fair and honest appraisal of what has been witnessed, without harming fragile confidence.

I imagine he is quite different behind the scenes. I remember speaking to a player after Smith famously gave the players a touch line rollocking against Widnes in 2012. He didn't mince his words, that's for sure.

Ferguson was all set to get the boot from Manchester United. It was only Lee Martin scoring the winning goal in the 1990 FA Cup Final replay that saved him his job. Couple of years later, his team went on to be the most dominant in Premier League history.

a story which the club said was a load of rubbish.... Ferguson himself said if any goal saved him is was Lee Martins goal in the cup final.
*edit.. if any goal saved him that season, it was probably the extra time equaliser in the first cup final that did it.... wasnt it Mark Hughes?

| A loss to Cas who having seeing the departure of some of their better players can still turn it on will have Smith looking over his shoulder, we all know about his disdain for the close proximity of the Easter games and never flogs his players over this period, so is this the one to be won? apart from Evans he now has his full pack to choose from for his up and at em style, lose this then it will be bunny nose time.

| Regardless of who it was, the point is that all coaches have a shelf life at one time or another.
If we don't win on Monday, then Smith's may just be coming to an end......

| I'm expecting us to win on Monday but it has to be convincing by getting the plays right and looking like we know what we are doing, a wins a win will not suffice a loss just not acceptable.

Couldn't remember if it was Oldham or forest or both but it was Robins.
Thanks Sir A M.

Same here, though a little worrying we should be able to get a win yet with a nagging feeling of deja vu about Castleford and their hand in Cullen's resignation, I think this has been broached before but the team Briers had around him on that fateful night and the then teams consistent failures, compared to what O'Brien has around him at first is frightening, but looking back with that Briers team how was the club with depth and stability? we went season to season on a wing and a prayer.
Move on to now perhaps not the names of that era but we have at least stability, viability good depth with our youth and on paper though out of sorts a good squad that can get us through this sticky patch, I'm not saying TS is infallible just a manager who believes in the club who is having to rebuild starting from bottom to top, a reversal or mirror image of when he arrived, he can achieve this because the foundations are now there, and the stability to afford the right player if one comes along, as I said he's not infallible.
