| The Green Brigade (Celtic Ultras) have had a brilliant effect on their support. Wigan Ultras copied their banner so obviously they're aware of this, and therefore I fully expect "Just Can't Get Enough" to be the Wigan song of choice very soon.

The wigan ultras, are not trying to be like other teams from Europe. The reason for the flags, is to add a bit of colour to the DW, thats all.

you can round up a bit of dough for flags without labelling yourselves the ultras, a name synonymous with those teams in europe! surely you knew that putting such a name to it would be inviting the comparisons and laughter??

Well you are hardly 'Ultras' if you are just adding a bit of colour with flags. You are, effectively, RL's version of Chelsea fans. The use of the word 'Ultra' immediately makes it out as though you're trying to be European 'soccer' fans. If you don't want that tag being stuck with Wigan, simply don't call yourselves Ultras, just call yourselves fans.

| I saw a comment from Odemwingie on their board that, according to him, Aris fans from Greece, are the best in the world, apparently.

| In answer to the question, all we sing to the Poznan is "Let's all do the Poznan".
I was on the train to the Notts County game when a few other Blues persuaded the conductors to do the Poznan. Surreal.

| I like the idea of making the stadium more colourful, commend the effort but at the end of the day, flags don't sing, clap, chant.

| Can I ask a serious question. Who honestly really cares if the Wigan fans are trying to make their all-round experience more colourful? So what if they're using a name that's synonymous with scumbag behaviour? The way I see it, so long as I can still go to the DW Stadium and not end up being fearful of getting a kicking for no other sin than simply not supporting their team, then I actually don't give a *£$%

Me. Wigan fans are bell ends, they're arrogant and forever banging on about how good they are. First it was the 18th man crap, now this Ultras rubbish just adds to the mockery. It's more than just 'making the stadium colourful' and you know it is. If it was just that, they'd make flags and take them to the ground and that would be that, but they don't, they give themselves a tag, 'Ultras', the tag football fans use to describe the nutty supporters, the type of supporter that is generally intimidating.
If we had a group of supporters that named themselves the 'Warrington Ultras', I would expect the p*ss to be taken out of them, as that's what rival fans generally do, it's banter.

| I guess I'm in the minority then because I label fans as being bellends when they actually act like bellends, not when they are simply trying to drum up a bit of activity within their own fan base and aren't bothering other teams' fans with whatever they're doing. I wasn't even aware of the 'Ultras' thing until it was pointed out in this thread.

The bell end aspect is the Ultra part. Everyone can be supporters and brighten things up, but Wigan have to go the extra yard. I remember the big banner we used to pass across the south, (not been this year so can't say if it's still there) which brightened things up and people seemed to like, but we never named ourselves the Ultras. Maybe it's just me, but I see the flag thing as pro-active and positive, but I see the Ultras thing as egotistical and something that should be mocked.

| Each to their own then.
Yeah the big flag thing ... I could be wrong but I think that got it's debut at the first magic weekend in Cardiff. Quite liked it back then. I've been enjoying it less and less though as it gets smellier and smellier - the last time I remember it going overhead it absolutely reeked

'"
I did specify PA music [iafter[/i tries like. I didn't say anything about PA music before the match, which doesn't bother me in the slightest...
Being serious though, surely anyone would agree that the celebrations after our tries on Friday night were far better than they normally are at home games. Of course I appreciate that it was a bigger game than most but still, the fact that Saints obviously didn't greet our scores with some tedious music meant undiluted celebration was possible, rather than loads suddenly reverting to some cringeworthy "We all hate Widnes" (who we haven't even played against competitively for six years) to the Tom Hark tune.
In moments like that, unforced passion is so much better than basically doing as you're told by the PA. It doesn't bother me much at home games as I never sing at them anyway, but it had a massive negative effect on the atrmosphere at our recent CC semis and finals in my opinion.

Who are these Wigan Vultures? Does the JCB's groundsman follow them round with a shovel?
