| Definately option A.
Frankly i wouyldn't even look at the "chavs" shouting abuse at you, i'd just carry on walking.
Invariably they only ever start when there is a group of them and never when they are alone so best to just ignore it.
In all situations they are just looking for a reaction, don't give them one and just keep going. Any time any abuse has been shouted at me i've just walked on and/or laughed at them. When they don't get a reaction they usually move on.

| A group of about 12 drunken 15-16 yr olds were outside Asda Westbrook last year and they were giving serious grief to everyone walking past. I went over to who was obviously the ringleader and asked him to come for a little walk with me (of course all of them followed behind) and I said quietly to him that if they didn't clear off that one day I would see him out and about on his own and I would put him in the hospital. It had the desired effect and he turned around and took his group off with him.
I thought about it afterwards and realised that it was an [iextremely[/i dumb thing to do but unfortunately it is the only thing that some people seem to understand! They don't even respect the Police as they know they are relatively powerless in such situations.

'"
I hate that, the way some 7 stone scrote looks at your car and thinks im tougher than that half ton pile of metal...watch it stop for me.......
little tip
A) take your eyes off the road turn your head and talk to missus...
or
B) pretend youve dropped something in the footwell
either way they then think they "havent been seen" and realise the car wont stop.....
I scattered a group of Bargain booze's finest customers just off Mersey street once.......I bet they had to let the white lightning settle before they could open it.......

The vast majority of the human race are perfectly decent folk.
You'll never get away from their being a few scrotes in this world.

| Quote ="fes"OK - looking for SENSIBLE suggestions here - please.
I'm a middle aged bloke who jogs.
I ran past a bunch of youths (10 or so 16 year olds) who started swearing at me for no reason in front of younger children.
I told them to stop, but one 'herbert' told me where to go in no uncertain terms and continued his tirade.
Do you
(a) ignore it
(b) kick the s4>@ out of him
(c) get a photo of him, find out where he lives and drop his parents a letter with photos
(d) tell the police and hand over the photos/name/address
I live in a very middle class village/town and this has never happened to me before.
At the time I felt like (b), but I would have probably ended up on a charge.
So I'm in the process of doing (d) and asking the police to confirm what they have done - or giving them the option of me sending the letter after letting them read it.
What the h3ll do you do with youths like that?'"
There is not much you can do, a clip round the ear would probably have had the most positive effect but you a likely to get a roasting from the police.
I have tried to intervene in similar situations and you find that your righteous anger is wasted. I once stopped this fella slapping his girlfriend in broad daylight in Hyde park in Leeds, may asked me if a wanted a fight and she looked like she was going to fill me in also. They then walked off together.
Again if you go to their parents they probably won't believe you and will want to duff yu up
The only option is to contact the police but it must be quite a pathetic offense compared some things that go on

Find out where the ring leader lives wait for him on his own chuck him in a van with a few of your mates (do not hurt him) and take him somewhere secluded tie him to a tree and throw diluted petrol on him (it doesn't ignite but has the lovely petrol smell)
Flick matches on him for a while then finally say can we just stop this and get a lighter.
trust me
job done

That is the only real option here. What is the point? You are doing nobody any favours.
If the whole sorry Newlove situation taught us anything it's that it isn't worth the risk for the principle.

| Try jogging without your Wire top on and you may get a bit less micky taking
How about running in a Wigan one instead as they may react to you with a bit more sympathy realsing that you are not all there in the head.

I have to disagree here, Lefty, I would've hoped that the Newlove situation would've taught us that not enough people are doing anything.
The scum that killed Mr Newlove though they were invincable and were no doubt laughing at the fact a lone wolf had stood up to them.
Had another five, maybe ten, of the local residents confronted them, I don't think we'd have seen such a heartbreaking situation. I'm not saying we should roam the streets with a cricket bat on the look out for Hoods and Reebok Classics (as that is the sort of behaviour we are trying to prevent), but if we could try to find some form of meaning in the word 'community' in the 21st century, we'd all be better off.
That's my opinion, of course, and as the cliche goes, they are like Assholes, we've all got one and most are full of turd.

Was in newspaper yesterday that a man had been charged with kidnap as he caught a burglar on his property and when he rung police they said they wouldn't be able to get there for two days!
So he kept the person there (unharmed) but still got in trouble. In past the police were never solely relied on to deal with certain issues and long as it's reasonable, it should continue. However both sides needs to act as they should.
After typing this i just found the article
www.express.co.uk/posts/view/910 ... -a-burglar
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -days.html
A bit more detail and perhaps shows them in a worse light but if the police wont do anything then people resort to desperate measures. That's why Station Road now has it's infamy.

That said, I recently scared off our local chavs (aged 14 - 16 all live within a few houses of us) when they were playing football and I saw their ball bounce off my new car - well I was in a bad mood too start with, after I exploded they haven't been seen playing outside my house since but if it hadn't been children (and more importantly parents!) I knew I wouldn't have done the same.

| You could take all options (without actually beating them up)....
A gang of kids near me were playing on my fence and vandalising the apple trees. I ignored them but equally made a point of making myself visible to them, just so they we aware that they had been seen.
The following day they were back but this time throwing the apples at each other and in the direction of the houses and cars so I went outside and asked them what they were upto. I recieved a bit of backchat, a few smirks and general chavy-esque attitude from them but they cleared off.
Obviously they didn't heed the subtle warning and were back again, this time though they decided to actually throw the apples at the house...... it was a weekend and I was doing a bit of work at the time....I saw my ar$e.
I flew down the stairs and went after the little gits, I caught up with most of them who instantly kacked their pants and told me who the ring leader was. The following morning I received a visit and an apology from the lad who was responsible for throwing the apple at the house.
Several days later I was out training leaving the wife and newborn at home. I received a call saying that the house had been pelted with apples again, she was in tears and the baby had been woken up by it all. Once again I saw my ar$e.
My atttitude to it this time was that I'd given them a chance and now enough was enough. I went round to the lads house, his dad answered - a big fella. I asked if his son was in and if he could ask him why he felt the need to throw apples at my house... The father was mortified at his sons behaviour. I explained the situation and also advised him that I would now be involving the police. A couple of days later I received a visit from the PCSO who assured me that they would visit each and everyone of the kids involved.
This happened about 9 months ago and not been repeated. In fact some of the kids seem to have a bit of respect now in that they are quite polite and pleasant towards my wife and I.
I guess the top and bottom of this is some parents do care about how their kids behave and, in this instance, the police did react to my complaint! The kids also seem to have learnt a lesson...!! Had I completely ignored what was going on the chances are it wouldn't have stopped.

| I did a similar thing, informing the police when a group of local CHILDREN ,not even teenagers, were destroying a large tree near our estate.
A course of action I had to take when they kept returing to said tree even when I had warned them off on two seperate occasions.
The matter was eventually handled by the community police who said they would up the patrol time around that area.
Really would should all be able to call on this bloke to sort it..
