They weren`t playing behind a dominant pack with forwards such as Paul Vaughan bossing the opposition`s forwards.
Drinkwater looked very ordinary, when he left Catalans, but once he returned there, he regained his mojo and is a great organising half.

Jason Clark won't be here next year so If we have signed Dufty, Vaughn ( no doubt) and McGuire we'll still have 1 quota spot left. This is where my Tanginoa obsessed dream will hopefully be fulfilled ha ha ha

I wish we were signing Tanginoa too, and his clinching try in last weekend`s game really showed up our own 2nd rowers.
Sadly, I have not seen any links with us signing him, other than Jon Wells comments on SKY TV.
Doubt we will sign him this year, but maybe when he is O.O.C ?

No i agree, i don't think we've actually signed him to be honest it's all wishful thinking. But i'm happy happy about all the signings/possible signings so far (except McGuire).
Be a completely different ball game next year for us

It`s the possible Dufty signing that I was most against.
However, it looks like we have signed him, so I will welcome him aboard in the hope that he can repeat for us, what Jai Field has done for Wigan.
I don`t think that Dufty will stay in England for too long, and Thewlis was only 20 recently, and can play wing or fullback.

| Hmmm looking at all of the signings or rumours I cannot see a real leader in there (might be doing a disservice here)
I am sure each player will bring some leadership qualities but we really could do with somebody that is going to be the voice of the coach on the pitch.
I know we need props but I would have tried a cheeky bid for Jake Trebjovic He is a middle but more at 13)
He was left out of the Blues team last week (ok he may be back in for game 2) and I know he is on mega bucks and would be highly unlikely but I cannot think of many other good leader that are not tied up in origin / Kangaroos contention.
Catalan have had the leadership angle seen up recently with Tomkins, Pearce and Malloney, Garcia recently.

Assuming Ratchford is a squad player next year, we are missing a goal kicker too…

Assuming that Dufty is played at fullback for Wire in 2023, then that leaves the halfback partner to Williams, between Ratchford and Dean, both of whom are goalkickers. Dean will only be eased in gradually, but I hope he will be a permanent fixture at halfback sometime in 2023.
Can`t see that suggestion of Luke Gale to Wire happening, but he too is a goalkicker.

| If Dufty signs I'm expecting him to play at halfback. Mata'utia can also kick, although I'm not sure that he's in the same league as Ratchford.

I`ve read about Dufty playing for us at halfback on this forum too, but not anywhere else.
If Williams and Dufty are the regular halfbacks, then I don`t see the need to retain Ratchford, because we would have Dean as backup.
Although his contract will be reduced, I can`t believe he would be prepared to stay here for a massive reduction, He would get better offers elsewhere. and hence it would be a waste of our Salary Cap.
I don`t see Ratchford being retained to play 1st choice fullback either btw.

| From what I'm reading about him on another board:-
2019 - Sanctioned by the NRL and his club as part of a "sexting scandal"
2020 - Sanctioned by his club for breach of Covid club protocols
2021 - Sacked by the Dragons for holding a Covid house party.
He might not be signing for Warrington, but coming here as the next Prime Minister.

| I agree that it looks like we're short of a real leader, genuinely the only player i've seen that would fit that mold for me is Danny Walker and he won't be made Captain. He's constantly talking on the field and telling players when to push up,, and pointing at gaps for players to move too. And he brings alot of energy, nobody else i've seen does any of that.

The problem with signing this type of player is their behavioural patterns tend to repeat. At first you can put a brave face on it saying its a new start, what he did in the past wasn't that bad anyway, maybe just needs the right environment. But then down the line everybody will be criticising the club saying you can hardly be surprised by how it turned out. We had this with Chris Sandow, you could predict how it would end before he even started.

Why not make Walker captain next year and start him at 9 with Clark on the bench? Maybe controversial but he does appear to have leadership qualities and is a local lad. Could do far worse. Clark coming off the bench with Kasiano, Harrison and Mikaele would have a field day.

I would go with that.
Clark`s contract with Wire finishes at the end of 2023, and I can`t see him being offered another contract on his current rate by us.
I wouldn`t be surprised if Clark moved elsewhere at that stage.
Danny has a kicking game that he need to develop further, but he is young and should be at Wire for a long time hopefully.

| I'd be happy with him as Captain, but i just don't think Powell would choose him to be honest. I have a feeling it might go to Williams or Vaughn. But honestly have no idea who he will choose?

Indeed,
Our season went right t1ts up since the cretinous South Warrington MP brought Lyin Boris Johnson to the Warrington RLFC stadium, for a cheap photo shoot, trashing the history and traditions of the club and the game.
Karma, richly deserved by the Warrington Club

and yet I'd say that Joel Monaghan's time at the Wire was fairly uneventful off the field?

| We only need Vaughan to be good for next year then he can misbehave and pack his bags etc in 2024 if he likes. We need to quickly re-establish ourselves in the top half and get some confidence for 2023 and beyond and this should set us up nicely as we rebuild.
Barba helped transform Saints, even though it ended badly. Monaghan was great for us, even if Sandow fluffed it. I'll take one good year from Vaughan over three damp squibs from Austin. Maybe we need a bit of a bad boy to spice things up.
If he actually has signed (not seen proof yet) I expect he'll walk out after one year when he tries his first barbecue in the rain and wind and single-figure temperatures.
