On a similar theme....2002 was probably our worst ever season, but how many of the players from that side would we take in the current team?

I would say 7, which is a pretty high proportion considering how bad we were!

Fozzard, Hilton, Paul Wood, Burns and Domic would all get in our pack, I'd also take both Briers and Nat Wood ahead of Patton and Austin. I think Austin is a more talented player than Nat Wood but Nat Wood could be relied on more to raise his game and lift the team when it mattered.

Hilton was in the top 3 worst props I have ever seen in warrington colours and Ive watched since the mid 80s. Before anyone says he was better than teitzel,...............he wasnt!

Really? I mean [ireally[/i?????? Hilton was certainly no Les Boyd but he never let anyone down and he doesn't deserve to be anywhere near a worse anything list.

Off the top of my head, Warren Stevens, Salesi Finau, Dale Laughton, Matt Sturm, George Mann and Mark Jones were not only vastly less committed than Mark but also gave the club considerably less value for.money.

Hilton copped some injuries over his time but he was a dependable solid slog prop.

Finau was a centre, George mann was a second row. Oh, and the others were all better!

Whilst he was very unlucky, Mitchell Dodds must take the mantle of worst value for money prop forward.

Finau played wing one week, and then prop the next. Never known that to happen before or since.

Well, if we're talking 2001, the number of players that would feasibly displace starters in the current squad rises to 9:

Kohe-Love, Hunte, Briers, Langer, Nutley, P Wood, Mercer, Kidwell, Nikau

Masella doesn't make it, but I thought he was ok.

Kidwell was a massive disappointment in the P&B

That's because we played him as a centre. He wasn't fast enough and was too flat footed to be effective there, but then when he went to the NRL he was played as a back rower and did well there.

Even in his time with us, you could see moments where he had potential. I remember us beating Wigan at Wilderspool and they really struggled to contain him, he was running at them like a battering ram, getting fast playtheballs and offloads away. In a lot of other games he looked cumbersome and having him as centre didn't suit the way we played back then, we seemed to play a lot of off-the-cuff stuff through Langer and Briers that relied on someone hitting a gap with speed, which was fine when it was Hunte or Kohe-Love but if it went to Kidwell he would slow moves down.

Ironically when Kidwell left his replacement at centre was Ben Westwood, and we had similar issues with him, for about three seasons, playing him as a centre or wing(!). When Cullen decided to put him in the pack he turned in to a star. I think if we'd kept Kidwell and done the same with him, he would have been similarly successful.

Not with us but I reckon Ruben Wiki will have done that at some point in his career.

He did turn up in Weatherfield, unlike Tyrone McCarthy and Tyrone Roberts.
