| Clubs need to be careful they don't get ripped off in an auction for Rooney.
IMO this is a bit like when Stuart Fielden left Bradford. His form had started to slip but Bradford managed to cash in and get a world record fee for him. They wouldn't have got that if they'd waited 12 months.
Ferguson could have clamped his foot down and told Rooney to STFU and stay like he did Ronaldo. If Fergie seems willing to look for offers then let the buyer beware - whatever you pay for Rooney, you're paying for what he will contribute in the next few years. Don't pay on how good he was last season.

| Take my word for it, Rooney is on his way to Liverpool. I know because I heard Roy Hodgson saying "Looks like Waynes' coming"..... I didn't hear the rest because it started p*ssing down and I had to run for cover
Looks like City are winning the race for Rooney ..they have offered him 50 Grans a week !

| As a very casual Utd fan i don't see the fuss, people come people go.
If someone offered me more to do the same i'd leave my job too.
Don't understand why people can't equate the same logic to pro sport.
All i ask is they give 100% in the time that they are there.

Exactly how much money does a man need?.....He was set for life when he signed for United back in '04, so to suggest he should just hunt the cash suggests enormous greed.
I really can't see him joining another English club.....The romantic in me would love to see him showing a bit of rare love for the actual game (and not the cash), and for him to return to Everton....That would be a massive PR triumph on his behalf.....A move to City would be the exact opposite, just another mercenary chasing the cash, hiding behind all this guff about how great and ambitious City are.
Realistically, he's off to Real Madrid..... Re-united with Ronaldo, plus the chance for Real to fob some of their big money waste of times to United.

| Yes it comes to a point where diminishing returns set in on getting extra money.
Imagine a fantasy world where you are a top RL player, Warrington are the biggest and most successful club in the league, there's no salary cap, and you're earning £180000 a week.
Then you get the opportunity to sign for Salford for £200000 a week. Would you quit Wire to play for Salford for the extra £20000 a week? Would the marginal benefit of that extra £20k spends be able to buy you stuff that would make playing for Salford outweigh playing for the biggest and most successful club in the league?

| As a United fan, I can't see him doing any better than United, however if he wants to go then let him, no player is bigger than the club, although the results have not been good so far the problem for us this season has not been with attack but rather the defence, I think he is holding out for more money at United ala Wes Brown, If Rooney does think he is bigger than the club then i suggest he speaks to McGrath, Kanchelskis, Sharpe, Stam, Beckham and Van Nistelrooy

but you'd have to have a brain cell to work that out ...unfortunately Rooney's only Brain cell is owned by his agent
So thats exactly why Rooney will move to City.

| He left Everton the club he supported (and continues to do so) because they did not offer him a realistic opportunity to win regular silverware going forward. The fact he got more money himself and Everton made a few much needed quid was a benificial sideline to everybody's advantage.
Now as things stand with Manchester United now being a selling club he finds himself in the same boat. He'll want regular silverware going forward so a move to Man City or Chelsea looks the most likely. This would also have the same beneficial sidelines as before in that he'll get more money whilst Man Utd will get much needed funds to service their debt.
What will happen in two years time though? With Ronaldo and Rooney gone which player will be capable oif demanding the £50m transfer fee to service the debt: Owen Hargreaves?

Massive improvement the past 10 months, all comes with regular playing time. Been the best player this season along with Berbatov. It's also not just at United, he's become a very important part of the Portugal squad as well. Nearly matched last season totals already.
2010/2011

No disrespect, but its not hard to look slightly special at United, with plodders like Fletcher and Anderson clogging up your midfield...
Nani is a luxury player, someone to add spark among the midfield kickers, and, yes, he has improved, though that wouldn't be difficult because he was awful when he first arrived.
I agree he's a 'showbiz' player, somebody who might attract the Real's or Barca's just because they like a bit of flash to pull in the crowds, but its ridiculous to believe he's going to attract huge cash, like Ronaldo or Rooney.

Plodder's like Fletcher? been one our best player's the past two seasons. I agree with Anderson who i don't quite get, but Fletcher has been class. Nani signed a new deal in Jan,

| this is the weakest utd side in years.... and its about to lose its best player..... mid aug he told utd he was leaving... no wonder he has been poor all season. Best game he has played this year was when he had a stormer for england.
chelsea and man city both have better squads now. 3rd for utd this season tops.
I think city might win the league.

| the united squad has been ridiculously poor since ronaldo left, yet last year, we were a few points off winning the league, so shows how good we actually are really doesnt it? rooney has been more hinderance than help this year, and after this, i dont want to see him in a united shirt again. hes made it clear he wants out, so get rid! united may be cash strapped but we dont need money so much that we would actually sell to our cross town rival! i dont think we'd ever need money that bad! the club know that by getting rid of wayne, well end up in a bad situatuion, nobody would ever be stupid enough to turn that situation worse by sending him to city or chelsea! if he goes, send him abroad! end of!
