Sorry for upsetting you with that. I posted that after seeing a shot of it obviously taken on a mobile phone. Looked all the world like he'd just swung the right forearm into the back of his head. I said on twitter when I saw the HD footage from Sky that there was nothing in it.
On Roberts, I was very surprised to see his performance today. Looked a yard quicker and just made space brilliantly, terrorised the right edge for the Moari's. If he'd been anywhere near that level for you, last season might have ended differently. I was looking forward to it being a bit of a train wreck, but far from it. Interesting to see him interviewed this week, quoted as saying the on field things were great in England, but the fact it was too cold to go outside made it unbearable. That in the hottest summer in history in England.

| Saddened, I think, many times you make some good points. But whenever you post on here, which is sp but timely- it coincides with your perceptive fear of Warrington doing well. When saints were sailing on the crest of a Holbrook/Barba wave, I don't really recall you posting on here- and fair play; it should be the other way around.-you should have been rubbing our noses in. You posting on here again gives me hope of success.

Perhaps it is? Good spot if accurate, not something I've noticed. I've not posted on here a lot over the last few years as the Saints board packed up and moved elsewhere. I tend to just post reactionary rubbish swearing at referees and trying to get Marco Silva sacked on Twitter.

| I'm romantic enough (or is it naive enough) to believe that for.most sportsmen, appearing in major events, playing key roles in big games and enjoying the adulation and glory is still a huge reason why they do it.
I think in 10 years time Tyrone may look back on last year as an opportunity spurned. He isn't going to end his career with a wardrobe full of Test caps, SoO jerseys and a bedside cabinet overflowing with Aussie GF winners medals. Last year was his shot at glory and he blew it for good.
Wouldn't he have preferred to look back and say "well it didn't work out, and god it was cold, but boy I showed Catalans how to play in the Challenge Cup and I got the photos with the boys and the Lance Todd to prove it".
Far more skilled, far higher paid sportsmen look back on their career honours above anything else and strangely, the weather never seems to crop up in conversation.

Exactly. He was and is better than how he performed for us. Even up until the gf there was a hope he would make an effort and we would win!! He never did.

| You're right, he would have preferred to win the hub cap than appear in both finals. Good for him. And you, good for you too.
Not sure what you mean about claiming its his brother, then again I have a feeling family relations are a little more blurry than most for you.

Whatever Roberts memories are of his 2018 season in England, it's unlikely that he will moan about the cold....we had about 10 weeks of perma-sunshine...
I have a different theory on Roberts: he's not this great underachiever who had great talent but didn't fancy it, I think he's just an OK player rather than a great one. He played for clubs at the lower end of the NRL. He wasn't an elite signing, any more than Michael Sullivan was, or Adam Doyle. We just overhyped these guys when we signed them.

I'm not so sure:
Reflecting on his time in England, Roberts said: “The football side of it was great, but just off the field [we struggled.
“Sometimes you would leave in the dark and come home in the dark, so it wasn’t great for the kids.
“It was too cold for them to go outside, so they were stuck inside for most of the time"

It must have spoilt his holiday having to play rugby every week.

| While we have shorter days in the winter I would think a lot of time our daylight lasts a lot longer than the Gold Coast...but I can’t be bothered googling to see if that’s true or just one of my misinformed prejudices showing.

| tis annoying, we all wanted him to do well, but as has been said, he had one foot out the door before he left australia, but its churlish listening to him say he couldn't even go traveling, jason clark is on his 3rd or 4th trip since he got over here, he spent xmas in paris with his family and the goodwins.
Goodwin took every opportunity to go away in blank weeks last year, and BMM and co went away with akaoula.
The opportunities were there, maybe he wants to take a look in the mirror and realise maybe he's a lazy and should have got his finger out.

this is it in a nutshell..... he's going to be a bit part player for a team at the bottom end of the NRL ladder.

but Matt king said the same when he was struggling but he soon(ish) got over it .....it depends on the person. in Australia King just went to the beach after every training session in the NRL. If that's your life then what do you do if that's not an option...?
Ashton Sims was quoted as saying his favourite place was a beach somewhere in Queensland (I think) and his favourite clothing was his Bermuda shorts.. but he settled in very easy he even went to the surfing lake in Snowdon.
you Dont have to sit in your house all day I find that outrageous........there are so many things for a young family to do in the north of England its obscene. Just over an hour's drive from your house you can be in the lakes or the mountains of North Wales or cities like liverpool and Manchester. I cant even guess where an hours flight will get you. an hours drive in Australia you've passed a tree and a dead kangaroo....
its just the some miserable people come out with.......... like Carlos Tevez saying there were no restaurants in Manchester ...!!!
so fair play to Goodwin who is seeing as much as he can while playing really well... he'll go Back to Oz and tell others "Youve got to do it"
we were well shot of Roberts...

Agree, he could so easily have been a hero with 2 winners medals and photos/memories of various trips around the historic cities and holiday centres of Europe. Sadly, it appears clear that he never really wanted to be here. To me, something that was evident at the time with the procrastination over his signing in the first place.
Who knows, in time he may look back in later life and see it as a missed opportunity. He has moved on and so have we. All in all, a disappointing episode. So far, quite a contrast to Austin.

| Apparently we had to make 4 attempts to secure TR. If you can't nail them within 2 go's, look elsewhere.
There's a difference between King and Roberts. We were on King's back yet gave a Roberts an easy time of it.

I doubt the club would have liked that. For all we know he would have been up for that, doesn’t mean we would have been.

| I almost think that the club said to him just come over and if you don't like it we will let you go/review after one year. Part of my disappointment is that it seemed clear he was unsettled early on but he hadn't got the grace to at least be seen to be trying. Although there was the 'knee' injury which cannot have helped. Looking back, when his future was settled (perhaps 3/4 way through) he did get better which is understandable getting himself more involved and taking over the kicking.
