Rubber Duckie, he could fill the team with props, bring his mates John Kear to assist and Eddie Battye to train all the props

| Justin Morgan, Danny Ward are possibilities........but would they be ideal.....who knows.
It's seems so obvious we are gonna go all out to get Holbrook, even though last year and this year with Gold coast have been similar to Powell here.. Doesn't instill confidence in him. Also would he want to uproot his family and move back to the UK, i doubt it, but if nobody bites in Aus he might have no choice. But does that scream of desperation rather than actual desire to come here?

Given Powell’s ranting interview I think Middleton was perfectly entitled to disclose.

I must not have been clear. I meant the disclosure of details in the weeks preceding Sunday. i.e) Rubber Duckie (and others) being allegedly told the situation by a company director a few weeks ago. That's not on if true.

| Surely people connected with the club would have learnt by now not to open their mouths so handily when riding in Duckie's Karaoke bus, as they must know he's just going to come on here and reveal all?

| Qho'd of Peet before he got the Wigan job? Chambers has a similar background so worth a go if he wants it and interestingly preferred to Marshall short-term. Big name no guarantee of success. It pains me to consider Rowley who has never had money behind him yet has a good record. McDermott is a winner who must be in the frame and doesn't suffer fools gladly.

On Mcdermott. I've never been impressed with him. He did have success with Leeds. But i always feel he had that golden generation where some were coming to the end of their careers and wanted to go out on a high. I think he got lucky and the team coached itself most of the time. Despite the success, i don't think he is that well regarded at Leeds. I watched a podcast with Kevin Sinfield not long ago and he wasn't very glowing of him. Basically said in his last season Mcdermott left him out of the side (as captain) but didn't give him any explaination and would hold virtually no eye contact in conversations they had. Sinfield thought his time was up but then did come back in the second half of the season. I think Mcdermott would be another disaster personally.

Fair enough but that “if”is doing some fairly heavy lifting, I tend to take every rumour with a very heavy pinch of salt unless Abe F is involved

McDermott's Leeds, apart from 2015, were very inconsistent and often reliant on their big name and big game experience pulling out some fine performances in the play offs - For most of the domestic seasons, they looked anything but a top side and McDermott was often under pressure from the Headingley crowd and often got bailed out by his squad.
I'd go as far as saying that Leeds would have been successful with any half competent coach in that period and that their success was not because of anything special that McDermott was necessarily contributing.

| This is the problem with sacking a coach.
Everybody is in favour of it until they have to consider what comes next.
On McDermott, usually Wire fans say that we had the best squad in the game under Tony Smith and it was a failure that we didn't win the Grand Final. So how can that square with McDermott having it easy at Leeds because any coach could have won all those Grand Finals because his squad was so dominant. Did McDermott have the best squad in the game or did Tony Smith?

| I think McDermott and Leeds played the system to win many of their GF's.
That's not a criticism of them but a sad enditement of the GF system. (Call me old school but I still prefer the winners to be those who finish top after the regular season, and the end of season matches to result in Premiership winners, but it'll never hapen).
Winning from 5th several times seems to me to show they weren't able to do it week in week out in the regular season but at the end of season with poorer weather their core players stepped up. Peacock, Sinfield, Maguire, and yes even JJB.
Just imagine if we'd have tempted Peacock years ago, with Moz, Carvell, Harrison and Wood already on board......

| OK - back on subject.
My worry with an Ozzie coach coming in is they would expect to be joining a professional organization - with many here saying we're anything but.
I can't believe they'd know of the full extent of the 'alleged' issues inside the club - be that player power, boardroom issues or whatever.
Possibly the one who would have a better inkling would be Holbrooke - both from being here, and being very good friends with SP.
I really believe that most of the names mentioned wouldn't/couldn't succeed because as well as being a good coach they'd have to have the political nouse to navigate through all the other crap.
Tony Smith would have a very good insight based on experience and he VERY quickly sorted out the issues when he arrived, and that was over a decade ago. That ship has sailed.
Paul Rowley? No way would he want to come. Why should he? And I doubt he's had the range of off field issues to deal with.
Shaun Wane? - I think he would be mad to take the job. And even though he's been successful with Wigan, there are competent personnel around him. As an aside though I also hate the way he coaches the game.
I could go on, but it wouldn't do any good.
Simply no f***in idea who would be the right man (or lady, L,G,B,T,Q,A,I+) for the job.
I think I've covered all the bases....

My point is that Leeds - and only them iirc - knew how to do it.
That combination of coaching staff and players.
They were able to consistently pull it all together when it mattered.
Fair play to them.

| Then there's mention of Griffin and O'Brien.... Please god no..they really are average coaches.... That's when the Warrington need for all things NRL becomes too much ... Would accept Morgan because he's been here, had some success and not likely to get homesick at the first sign of rain

If we are going Australian then I'd sooner we had a young, ambitious sort, who is basically using us as a stepping stone for better things in the NRL at a later date - it's why Michael Monaghan appeals in a way.
One huge proviso though is that I'd like to see an experienced British director of Rugby appointed alongside him and I'd be inclined to go all Duckie and get someone like John Kear or Brian Noble to do the job.

Kear and Noble are tge 2 names i thought of as a director for us awell, both i feel are suited for that.
I think Holbrook will stay in Australia, if the Bulldogs want him as an assistant i think he will take that rather than uproot back to the UK.

| No doubt our interest in Holbrooke will get him a better deal in Oz.
I think i would steer clear of anyone who wants the Wire as a stepping stone to a better gig in Aus & steer clear of any sub standard panic buys who might destroy the club completely.
These are desperate times for us & we need a committed & effective coach to get us out of the hole we are in.

Aussies, whether players or coaches, come to our league for one of two reasons - They are either using us as a stepping stone to better things in their superior and better paid league, or they are here for a pension top up, because they can't get a decent deal in the NRL.
Personally, if we are going the Aussie route, I'd sooner take the former over the latter.
I'd sooner have a young, ambitious coach or player that gives us great service for 1 or 2 years, than one who contributes mediocrity for 3 or 4 like Price did.

Technically wasn’t Price a young and ambitious coach? My choice would be an experienced NRL coach for 2 years to put things in place and a no.2 brought in now to be groomed for an eventual take over. Holbrook & Monas or Briers would be perfect.
