| Fullback is a grey area for me. I don't know what it is about Richie but I am un-comfortable with him at the back.
I think he brings some really good attributes both offensively, tactically, and team spirit wise he is fantastic. But, I think inconsistency/unpredictability is the main issue with him. He seems fine up the other end of the field but has brain farts where it counts as a fullback at the back. I dread any grubber kick going his way as he takes an age to pick it up and once he does, it's like watching him handle a bar of soap.
We could do better but there's not many good UK based players to pick at in that position. Briscoe is the only one I can think of. All the other teams have non UK FBs or duds - =#0000FFWellens, =#004000Greenshields, =#004000Phelps, =#0000FFTansey, =#0000FFBriscoe, =#004000Hodgson, =#0000FFPlatt, =#004000Dorn, =#0000FFFitzpatrick, =#000000Webb, =#0000FFBlaymire, =#004000McGoldrick, =#004000Youngquest.

| Its not picking holes in the team, mate, its just looking to see where you could improve an already impressive all round squad. Obviously, the salary cap has its limitations on these posibilities, and its for this reason that i doubt anyone will ever have the "perfect" side. Personally i'm finding it hard to pick a problem out. Mathers has his moments, but the energy and passion that he offers, far outway his negative "momentary" cock ups. He'll lift you in more ways than drag you down. LAnderson looked shakey at the start for me, but seems to have calmed down abit, although shooting out of the line looking for the smash, could cost us at some point. Failing that, we have adequate cover to directly replace or shuffle players around in all departments, and its a nice feeling to know that Tony has all this to consider for the season ahead. Its only by creating this strength in depth, that you get the best out of players, and it'll be interesting to see once an injury happens, who will be the man to raise his hand and want to keep his place in the 17. Decisions decisions....

| I would look to upgrade our current fullback. I would also like an impact prop in the guise of a Feka type. All in, not too much to really change or alter at this stage of the season.

| although bridge did a good job, I'd go for a real top goal kicker like cameroon smith, botica, el masri type. a 90% or high 80's success rate

| Not sure why everyones being so harsh on Mathers, hes the best fullback we've had since Dave Lyon, barring Brent Grose's one good season.
Offers far more than Lee Penny did, or Hunte/Felton/Watts/Cardiss/Reardon

Lee Penny once scored 4 tries at Headingley in a game & we still lost. Never could pass a ball though.

| You are lacking at fullback, centre, and a bench prop.
And you could do better with the cheerleaders. And if we are talking ideal world you could have free food at the game.

We aren't lacking at centre.
King, Bridge, Atkins & Grix. All four are quality SL performers at centre.
I don't think we lack anything. The fact that Cooper can't get in at present speaks volumes for me, and that Mathers will struggle to get back in.

Maybe we got bored after your 11,000th post.
I think these are positions in which we could certainly improve. Don't get me wrong Mathers does a solid job do the team atm, but a playmaking loose forward and NRL style attacking full back would take this side to the next level.

Three trophies this season for Warrington then? I don't think any fan of any other club would come out with that statement about their club.

| I'm not seeing this as picking holes in the team as teams look to improve every year. Next year we should be looking at getting rid of Vinnie Anderson, Richie Mathers and maybe Chris Hicks.... Get a decent Full-Back (the best we can afford) let Riley have the wing that Hicks left.... Vinnie and Hicks are getting no younger.
I'm not sure we need a forward as we have plenty of back-up and i can see Harrison replacing Morley in the forwards eventully and get a Loose forward in time but for next year a better Full-Back is the most important.

| People worry too much about mathers. He, along with westwood, offer good value for money when it comes to staying within the SC. Anyway, Rhys Evans is a fullback and i would imagine he would be pushing for a first team spot sometime next season. And before anybody mentions his age, a lot of top class players (sculthorpe, harris, farrell, edwards, connolly etc) had broken into the first team by the age of 17.

| After the result last night along with people commenting on some of our obvious weaknesses i thought this would be the ideal time to continue this topic, we were unlucky against Wigan as a few things went against us in that game but its still 2 big games played and 2 big games lost, personally i don`t class the Bulls as a big game these days as i can`t see them as a threat to any silverware on the evidence of the last few years and this season.
I suggested at the start of the thread that we need a quality fullback who gives you a more solid feel than Richie Mathers does along with a quality 13 and ideally some pace in the 2nd row, we have a bit too much graft and bump n grind in the back row, Westwood does a great job but you need a bit of pace and skill to compliment that like Saints and Leeds have had down the years with Gilmore and Ellis.

It may be classed as a big game to some but there not a team that sets the benchmark as far as trophies and past success goes, so you wouldn`t say that Huddersfield are a team that were aiming to emulate on the pitch. Huddersfield away was a great win, make no bones about that. On friday it was arguably a far weaker saints team than in years gone by yet we lined up quite a bit stronger than in past meetings with them and still couldn`t manage to get that elusive Knowsley Rd win, it can`t all be a mental thing about playing at Knowsley Rd, we must still be weak in certain areas.

But you shouldnt be skimping on key positions like full back when it comes to the cap.
