Quote ="rubber duckie"I'm not calling it a friendly as for being shot down again.
However, if it were a game that produced some silverware, I doubt there would even be standing room only available by now.
Saints have nearly tripped what we have sold if correspondence are to be believed.
Our wcs game will mean nothing more than what patriotism it can muster. I for one have more interest in this game v Salford than I have v St G/I. To me there is a lot more at stake loosing on Saturday.'"
I can't fathom this attitude. Would you have taken the same view when the Australian 'midweek team' played Wire in the various famous tour matches throughout the decades? There was not a gram of silverware on offer but these were full-blooded thunderous encounters. Those of us priveleged to be at the 1978 game ( www.eraofthebiff.com/announcemen ... -roos-1978 ) witnessed a fantastic battle, in which Nicko had even the giant Aussie forwards running scared. Wire against an NRL team? How often does THAT happen? What about making this a powerhouse contest INCLUDING the attendance to try to stir up Aussie apathy towards the international game? Don't you get fed up with the NRL's patronising view of Super League? If so, you're choosing a funny way to show it. Anything less than a full house for us, while Saints have a capacity crowd and I've no doubt the Pies will top 20,000, will make Wire look the 'poor relation' of the three when reports are issued down under. We play Salford every year, twice a year, and you're more excited about that?? I'm stupified, dumbfounded and downright shocked that any serious Wire fan can take such a view.

| St GI are not a touring Australian national side.
You can't fathom because you do not understand.
I'm all up for the challenge and I will be attending but Salford is more important imo as is every other league and cup game we play.

| 7,000 is shocking. I was hoping for a sellout but doesn't look like it's even going to be close. It annoys me when people don't make the effort to attend and make the club look bad with low attendences. A low attendence at this game would be extremely poor.

Well said that man!
One would hope that sales will pick up over the next few weeks, once the season gets underway. RL fans are notorious for buying last minute and I know a fair few people yet to get theirs.
That figure was quoted on Friday morning, so hopefully a decent amount of tickets were sold at the Golden Square event on Saturday, plus the advertising has been increased. The other day I noticed an advert for the match beneath the boundary sign at Dawson House.

| Hard to believe it's Warrington's biggest game since to 70's!
I am going but like Yed said it is what it is.
Some want to hype it, but I'm not one to be carried away with it.

| I reckon a lot of Warrington fans are awaiting to see what team that St George bring over. If Marshall, Nightingale, Widdop, Merrin, dugan are all set to play then we stand a chance of a decent crowd. I would guess that if we had been playing the Melbourne storm then it would be sold out by now just because of the big 3 Even though they have been hit and miss for the last few years.
It will be a shame if there are 5000 empty seats.

| I'm sure there are more people who are planning to buy their ticket nearer the time, I was just hoping the figures would be better at this stage. It's a valuable opportunity to raise the profile of the club and it would be nice to see the fans get behind it in numbers. That said, the game and the series is what it is, and if people like it they'll come!

Like it or not, Warrington will always be the 'poor relation' when compared to Wigan and St Helens. Both are miles bigger clubs than your own. Wire live in their shadows.
And for the record, I follow none of the three clubs in question.

That's what 'can't fathom' means, I do not understand this attitude. I'm glad you're going, anyway, and I'm excited, [itoo[/i, about the opening match of the season, but to compare a run-of-the-mill league game against opponents we play time and time again, to a rare opportunity to see how Wire fair against an NRL side, with the kudos and profile that comes with it - if it looks good to Aussie eyes - shows a dreadfully feeble grasp of the bigger picture.

| A full house would be best & i'm sure Leeds would have filled Headingley easily.....they must be smarting & our club needs to show it's mettle on the field & in being able to put bums on seats.
I believe our game is the dearest of the 3 ,why is that ?

| Don't forget a lot of people will be buying between now and the game itself as the tickets went on sale when money is tight for many with the lead lead up to Christmas. As the first payday after Christmas has only just passed I suspect a fair few sales between now and the game itself. I only got mine this weekend.
Would be happy with anything over 10,000 to be honest. Anything less would be a dissapointment and a bit of a kick in the teeth for those at the club that have helped make this happen.

Wigan, and in particular, St Helens, are right on Warrington's doorstep + Wire aren't ever going to be as big or successful as those two clubs = you live in their shadows.

I agree with this, although I think that we should be doing better on the crowd front all round and we should as a town back the club with what's on offer.
Without wishing to get our excuses in early, reading the other forums it would appear that the other games, especially Saints will be hosting more visitors. I'm not knocking that as I think it should be applauded, but, the Friday night thing, (although it works for me particularly if I can get a lift off Mrs Rico) and the fact that we are seen as the third game and there's not been a stampede for tickets might be taking its toll on ticket sales thus far?

No it doesn't.
It goes in hand with not understanding it.
But fathom is the inability to grasp or work it out.
You cannot fathom it because it's my opinion and not yours.
I don't consider you to be wrong with your rating of this wcs game.
I am open minded enough to welcome other posters view and reasoning.
I can myself see why some posters consider this an important game.
Likewise I can see why so many fans, especially the younger ones, see the GF as the most important game of the season.
I don't, I'm old school and would swap a GF every time to win at Wembley.
Wembley for me is the traditional and the glamour cup and the event that earns a club the most money in merchandise.
I respect all views and will listen and understand, but I don't have to agree.
I keep on banging the drum about being Warringtonian and Lancastrian, I hear some say their Cheshion..? (sp) I know their reasons why but I don't have to say I am from Cheshire just because Warrington Borough Council (ltd) says I am.

| The top & bottom of it all is that there is only one game that matters ,the other 2 are friendly matches. If it was a series, as it is being touted, the format would be a mini league or knock out competition.
