A derby is a high anticipated sporting contest or large sporting event, has nothing to do with location. The name comes from the horse race originally. A local derby is a sporting event contested by two teams from the same area. That's what the dictionary says anyway. Fail again mate. You're reaching Odemwingie levels now.

Personally I look @ any match we are up against teams on the side of the Pennines as being a derby except the Crusaders

Well there's only 1 way to prove or disprove this thinking. Like I said before, if next years competition needs a semi final in the North West, and Saints aren't involved, then their new ground could be used to test the water. Also with it being 18k capacity rather than 25k or 35k then any potential 'damage' would be limited.

If you gave non ST holders the same rights to purchase tickets as ST holders at the same time, then doesn't that devalue the ST and give away a strong selling point for purchasing one? Jumping from a 13k crowd to a 16k crowd is nearly a 25% increase, just for changing venues, an extra 3k people who decide to buy a ticket based on what though?

But as a game are we aiming low or being realistic as to the numbers of people who want to pay to watch the game? Should a venue be chosen on what we perceive that the game needs or what it can actually hold?

How can you be certain though? Why would more people go to a larger stadium that is further away and probably cost more?

I think the biggest issue with the Challenge Cup, with the exception of a few games/teams, is that fans dont want to pay to watch it. Making it more affordable doesn't seem to have a massive impact on the attendance, making it free does though.

Quarter final...two weeks gap...semi final.....two weeks gap....final.

Maybe thiis is something that the RFL need to look at. They've already acknowledged that playing the exiles game on a "normal SL" weekend was a mistake. Maybe they should acknowledge this mistake as well.

So, even though Adrian won't be leading out his boys, Warrington can still put on a brilliant day out. Lets be honest, we are going to win the Grand Final anyway!

The RFL can't win. fans, coaches and players all complained that there was a massive gap between the quarter and semi final, personally i like it all close together.

Exactly, and they could solve both problems by lessening the gap between the previous round and the quarters and making the semi a bit earlier and there we have more even gaps rather than a massive one and then two tiny ones. I work shifts and most weekends and for people like me, the 2 week notice was just not enough notice to get that day off work, so I can't go, I wonder how many more people were affected by it?

again i've said it before i'll say it again one round a month.
1st week of every month is challenge cup week.
August final, July semi, June quarters, May 5th round.

It's so simple it's untrue.

But Hull and Hull KR are not in the Challenge Cup anymore.

The only "derby" you two are associated with is now the "Friendly Derby".

The RFL has to work with the BBC if we want coverage on terrestrial TV, or just play it and see if they can fit it in and just go with the semis and final?

First week of August is the football Charity Shield at Wembley.

Should have played it in a smaller stadium, all those empty seats were embarassing on the telly, nevermind the pathetic, boring RL on show.

I'm tending to think now that it should have been staged in a bigger stadium. Having empty seats in a 13k stadium for a semi final looked, and was, bobbins. Maybe aiming higher and getting say 16-17k in a 25k stadium might actually have looked better somehow.

When you get to play your local rivals four times a season, it doesn't surprise me that they struggle to sell out. I'd imagine a lot of people gamble on not going to the semi so they have a bit more money in their pocket to pay for finals.

If 13000 people didnt want tickets yesterday why are an extra 3000 people going to buy them for a bigger stadium. Quite simple the demand wasnt there. tickets were available for those who wanted them. A half empty £25k stadium would look simply stupid (unless you do like Huddersfield do and try and leave the stand under the TV cameras as empty as possible to fill the rest).

I may be looking at this in a wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to simplistic point of view but whats the point of creating extra spaces when there's no demand.

I'm one of the first to slate the RFL when they screw it up but yesterday I actual think that the numbers at the game indicated they may have just got it bang-on
