| It may be worth noting that we have 1st option of GOB in two years when his current contract with Salford expires. Personally I think by then he would be a suitable replacement for Gidley when he retires.
Currie very much reminds me of Sculthorpe when he broke through at the wire.

| Just a note... Sculthorpe was Warrington captain at 17. Currie is already 21.
He is a great player but Scully was something else entirely. It was a sad day when we had to sell him to keep our club going.

Was it perhaps a short sighted move from Warrington to not retain him? Possibly at the expense of the headless chicken that is Steffan Ratchford?
Also, what a start to the season Ben Currie has had! How long is his Wire contract? I think you are doing him a massive dis-service in not letting an NRL side take him now, he's world class and needs to be playing over there, not bullying semi-pro standard SL sides.'"
The Melbourne Storm thought they had Currie but he signed a long term deal with Warrington a day after he was due to sign for them.
They aren't too happy with Currie's manager.

As for Ben Currie and world class? He is a good super league player at the moment but far from world class, I don't know if a single SL player is world class, give him a couple of years and see how he develops.'"
No one in SL is world class???
Chris Hill
Alex Walmsley
James Roby
Ryan Hall
Kallum Watkins (Maybe)
These players could walk into almost every team in SL and the NRL.

I don't suppose we will be able to compare the two until Currie hangs his boots up. But Currie, while not captain, is 21 and has made just shy of 100 first-team appearances already. That's almost 1/3 of Sculthorpe's career club appearances, and he has over 1/3 of Sculthorpe's try total (43 v 113). The trajectory is certainly impressive.

The comparison with Sculthorpe's appearances is enlightening. You do wonder whether the strain on the body of carrying Warrington's pack when only 17 impacted on his career's longevity.

Do you regularly watch the NRL? Those players could definitely get games in the NRL, Hill would even be a good NRL forward. But none of them would be a top 3-5 player for their position. Which is what I would class as world class, Walmsley got absolutely dominated by the Rooster forwards, whose best forward wasn't even playing.

He had at least two years left on his contract at Warrington when it was renewed. I'd expect the same to happen again.

Trolling? I like O'Brien, I thought Saints should have signed him, he'd definitely have improved us. You've signed Gidley, but he's got 1 or 2 seasons in him at best. Ratchford for me hasn't kicked on and I think perhaps, maybe, (I.e. not definite, just a suggestion) Wire got that call wrong.
On Currie, again, don't see the problem with praising him. He's class, utter class.

| GO'B
imo, I'm happy for both sides that he's gone. His career was literally meandering in a Wire jersey. He wasn't poor. He wasn't great. Just the dictionary definition of OK. For those who represent the GO'B fan club, put yourself in this situation. He's in (for example) a Castleford jersey, and it's a Friday night Sky game. I bet there's not many saying "Corrrr, I wish he was in a Wire jersey". Thought not.
He's gone, and he's now usurped Salford's last season's "bright young thing" Evalds, to the FB jersey.
We win/Salford win.
Currie
World class? You're 'avin' a laaarrrff, intcha?
SL class, yes. World? Ask me in 4 year's time.

| I think Currie is the first Wire Academy player for an age who has the potential to be more than just a decent SL player, and his showing on Thursday in the sense of not being intimidated is a step in the right direction.
I accept however that the risks of winding up these days are rather less than in the Boyd era.

| GO'B has now played 5 on the bounce for Salford, had he still been with us he would have been keeping Dec Patton out of the reserves. It was absolutely the right decision for both parties to let him go.
Ben Currie is one of the best back rowers in SL but has a long way to go before being world class - I think he has it in him though.
Typical Sad End, big up the Wire when his Saints are below expectations. He loves it.

Walmsley didn't get dominated. He still made good yards but he was on his own as the rest of the pack were poor.
Name the top 5 props in the world then.

| Hill is easily in the top five props in the world no matter what competition he is playing in.
Massively consistent and no weaknesses in his game whatsoever.

| I don't watch much NRL but surely Hill's footwork (the Salford game and last year's Saints game for example) and his ball handling is up there amongst the best of the world's props?
Not mentioning his tackling, carries and metres made.

| Hill would definitely get in most NRL teams as he has great footwork and energy compared to others who are just big.
