its called the romance of the cup..david and goliath..theres always been a shock in the fa cup..theres not that many in rugby league(cant think of the last one)maybe us at hull kr..it would be nice if town could pull out a performance and progress to the next round

| I never called you a pie my friend.
That would be a horrid insult.
I wouldn't fear a FA overshadowment from Town over SL in our lifetime.
I would ask the question isnt SL already second fiddle to FA with a combination of Utd City Liv Eve and others?
I don't believe rugby would lose support to football, none that's worth worrying about anyway, perhaps if town became professional then they may take fans away from the main 4 football rivals in this area though.
They would certainly take my support over them, and 2 of them are avidly supported in my household.
If Town became professional, or put it this way, if Town got so far as drawing one of the 2 above we follow, I will be supporting Town without malice.

Wigan losing at home in the cup for the first time in my lifetime this year? Leigh narrowly losing away at cup holders Leeds? Batley narrowly losing to Huddersfield the year before? Fev and Barrow both knocking Cas out in recent years? Tolouse reaching the semi final? Catalans reaching the final? Just off the top of my head.
Bob, I was more referring to if Warrington advance and reach top flight opposition.

Fair enough. Chances are the Premier League team would put out a weakened team and it's be closer than you think. Exeter drawing with United and United narrowly beating Crawley are two that spring to mind.

Thanks. Not being facetious I just know little about soccer. Although I have been to a couple of Warrington Town end of season dinners!

Exactly - I know some on here often question why Wire don't attract bigger crowds, seeing as Warrington is such a populated town, and the answer is a pretty simple one in that many people actually prefer, and actively attend, football.
I think if we are honest, only Wigan can really call itself a 'Rugby League' town in this country. Towns like ourselves, St Helens and Widnes are much more submerged in football than RL.

I lived in Hull for three years and RL is by far the bigger sport. The same can be said for Castleford, Featherstone and arguably a few other places.

Fair points, but, generally a one off a treat, could they fill it 20 times a year? Also, if London FC was the only franchise in the capital and the Arsenal's and Spurs' etc never existed.....
Back on topic ish I support Wire RL and MUFC (a crime to some I know) but I hope Warrington Town have proper Cup Run and don't think it will harm our game.

| I wouldn't call Wires putting 80 points on Hemel an embarrassment to RL. It would be inevitable and people would just give Hemel credit for getting to a position of playing SL opposition. In the unlikely event of Town progressing to the third round of the FA Cup and drawing Premier League opposition then I'd expect them to getting thrashed but that wouldn't be embarrassing under the circumstances either.
One thing is for certain though, despite very few people classing WTFC as the team they actually support (I've never met anyone who does), if they did play a match against a PL team and host it at the HJ, the attention it would receive would be massive. It would sell out quicker than any Wires match there ever has, and plenty of people who have lived in Warrington all their lives would enter the ground for the first time to watch it.
Certain "Wendyball" types on here might not like that, but it's true. I walk around Warrington now and see far more Wires shirts being worn on non matchdays in town than I used to when I lived there (I moved nearly 12 years ago) which is great. In that 12 years the move to the HJ has happened and the team have won trophies so obviously that has raised interest and made Warrington more of a rugby town than I feel it used to be. I still think football is the more popular sport though and as said above, that will be the case in most "rugby towns". That's just the way it is.
I'm working late on Friday so won't be able to watch the match, but credit to Town for getting to that stage and good luck to them.

I was born in Warrington, and I am genuinely interested - how do Warrington Town FC represent you and to whom?
I've followed the Wire for as long as I can remember but they do not represent me in any way, shape or form.
