| Wouldn't even call it tailing off, Nikead. He was 3 in the 04 season (looked overweight), and the less said about 05 the better.
I remember being stood next a fella in the South Stand, in Appo's last season, and he said he's been a one season wonder wherever he'd been.
Appo...it was nice while it lasted, after that...humph

| He's the only person I've seen ever properly replace Briers, only for 10 weeks or so like.
I think if I ever caught up with him, and given that the tax man can't I think the chances are slim, I would ask him :-
a. How he became superhuman overnight.
b. Why did it wear off just as quickly.
c. Was he taking any supplements.

I think the answer to C answers A and, on that basis, also answers B.
Allegedly.

I know he wasn't here long but I believe Graham Appo produced probably the best half season in the clubs recent history. That second half of the season after Briers broke his hand against London was simply breathtaking. Scoring from allover the field, got a new contract and tailed off.'"

| SEB is right, its amazing how nostalgia makes some players brief run of form seem better than it was. Richard Henare is another one.
Appo had a good half season similar to Kevin Penny in 2007. Appo was very good against low ranking teams (eg Halifax), and he got a lot of points because he kicked goals as well as scoring tries, but you never saw him take on a top team and make a difference. Brett Hodgson's first half season at Warrington was better than Appo in 2003 IMO.

| 2003 was a weird season - didn't we win every game against teams that finished below us in the league and lose every game against teams that finished above us? I think people get misty eyed about that season for 2 reasons; firstly, the dross that came before it and secondly, the fact it was our last season at Wilderspool. My most vivid memories are the season opener against Huddersfield (Silver kit), Wakefield at home (naturally) and the play off game at Wigan.
Appo shone brightly for a short period of time before his character caught up with him and he put loads of Terry on.

| Also, pretty much all of his tries were full length, or from at least halfway. He rarely scored a walk in, that elevates him in your mind. Also he had a cool name that allowed Sean Mellor to just go on when he scored

2003 was a happy season for us because it was a year where we didn't have big expectations at the start of the season but we did well. Cullen said the season was about "leaving Wilderspool with dignity" and I thought we did. The team seemed to have a good spirit and that was Cullen at his best as a coach. After that the expectation started to come in when we moved to the HJ and Simon Moran started putting significant money in so we were signing big name players, now looking back I wonder whether some of the players we signed privately didn't rate Cullen much and/or felt like they'd already achieved the success they would have in their careers and were winding their careers down with us, because despite the high profile additions the team never seemed to click like it did in 2003, for the rest of Cullen's time in charge, apart from a good run in mid season 2005.
I really enjoyed 2003. As well as Appo having his good run at the end of the season there were a few other good performers that year, Nat Wood started to really come into form with us, Brent Grose had a good year, as did Nick Fozzard, Paul Wood and Mike Wainwright.
That was also the only year we've had a major injury to Lee Briers. He's been more or less Senior-like in his durability, which doesn't often get mentioned.

| My best memory of Appo was when he picked off Jules Oneill's kick at Widnes and went the length of the field. Robert Relf, with his DD's bouncing all over the show was being taunted by Appo as he made an honourable attempt to catch him.
Coincidently, Appo had a fair set of baps himself the following season.
