| oh jeez! Expect a u-turn and signing a 3 year deal with an NRL team after the world cup has finished. The salary cap is killing the game.

| It's not good this. The only way to stop this happening is to make the breaking of a contract very very expensive or of course to match them financially. It almost makes you want us to sign players who are not quite so good ... so that the Aussies won't come looking.

| If this is the case & following on from the Sandow & Solomona let downs it builds an even bigger case for a strong academy & reserve system to be built in the UK so our clubs don't need to bother with overseas gold diggers. Presumably compensation would have to be paid to the Wire or would MM just need to come over ,play a couple of games then resign & walk away to the sunny side of the street ? Neither Warrington nor Cas seem to have been left in particularly good positions when players have walked away.

| One small article and there's meltdown.
Lets all chill out as he'll be playing for us next season.
There is interest from the NRL in a few of our players, Currie and Clark to name two but they are going nowhere.

Correct. His agent is merely using "standard agent tactics" to big up his player, who's stock is pretty high at the moment - make hay while the sun shines and all that.
He's on a 3 year deal so is going nowhere (Sandow only had 1 year left, and didn't leave for an NRL club, Solomona moved sports entirely). It would be too messy/expensive to prize him away from us in particular.
However, I would fully expect in a couple of years for his agent to be touting him about to get the best deal possible for him at 28, when he should be earning his maximum.

| The best factor that you have with regards to this is that the man himself is a decent fella. He doesn't strike me as a player that would sign a contract then try and wriggle out of it. What he may have though, is a release clause to the NRL with or without a minimal fee. With the cap raising in Australia again there's always a possibility that he will head back south...

| I think an nrl get out clause is pretty much inevitable when signing someone from the NRL like Hiku. Guessing, but id reckon signing BMM from a super league club means we mightve avoided that, then there's the 175k we've splashed out...can't see it.

The Northwest of England or the beaches of Australia.
While he does enjoy it over here his extended family and home are on the other side of the world.
Just a thought.

I think the fact that you've just paid a fee would hold you in good stead if anything did happen. He's a fine player and great bloke and wish him well in whatever venture he undertakes.

Segeyaro was on loan at Leeds, signed a permanent deal then he walked out?

On the other hand the North West of England doesnt seem to be a barrier in attracting a good number of the world's best footballers. Some from Spain and Brazil where there are also beaches. Maybe he's not a beach bum.

I wasn't saying it doesn't happen. Every case of players leaving during contract is different - length of time they've been there, whether a fee was paid, the clubs involved etc, so I don't think it's relevant bringing up different examples of where players have broken contract to argue against my point.
I only mentioned Sandow and Solomona as they were mentioned earlier in the thread by anther poster.
I don't think Leeds payed a fee for Segeyaro, and he was on a 2 year deal, and Leeds ultimately reached a settlement to let him go - cash had to change hands, negotiated based on what Leeds would be losing out on.
BMM is on a 3 yr deal, and I'd wager he's on more that Segeyaro was on, and, most importantly, we paid 175k for him.
I said "It would be too messy/expensive to prize him away from us in particular". I still stand by that. Segeyaro leaving Leeds has nothing to do with BMM. They're completely different situations.

You'd think so but it's not made David Silva or Kun Aguero ever want to leave Manchester City and go back to Spain despite offers every single transfer window.
