It's one of the games we first look for on the fixture list, but which Wire v Wigan game game have you enjoyed the most?

For me, the 1997 game at Wilderspool would be mine, a hat trick for Vagana and some great tries by Penny and Tatupu against a strong Wigan team. Also, with Murphy as a stand in coach assisted by Paul Cullen IIRC.

But boy, have there been some crackers!

Hicks try into the corner.... Sam Tomkins getting up in Kings face early on, then King laughing at him, then utterly destroying Tomkins and Wigan with a majestic hat-trick.

Monaghan absolutely dominating the ruck.

Amazing atmosphere in the ground at the end.

I cant think of one that comes close for me.

you forget what a superb try it was from Hicks... its impossible to watch that footage and not find yourself with a massive grin on your face.

1985 Challenge Cup 2nd round at Wilderspool. John Ferguson's brilliant try with Brett Kenny running alongside him. Also the 1989 Cup semi at Maine Road and Lydons drop goal.

2011 Challenge Cup game at the HJ wasn't bad either.

Any involving a Wire win for me. although 2011 in the league was special, yeah I know Wigan fans will blame it on a Challenge Cup hangover, but the atmosphere beforehand due to Morley coming back from injury was something else and being driven around the park by Michael Monaghan in his prime.

Has to be the 09 semi for mine, in fact I think I will dig it out and watch again tonight. Bit of an odd choice, but despite us losing I really enjoyed the game in early 2010 when Solomona somehow knocked on what would have won the game, poor bloke was inconsolable afterwards. Bitterly cold and and an electric atmosphere!

The challenge cup game, the one where your marketing team thought it was funny to put up a sign with Morley and Harrison holding the challenge cup saying come and get it.

As a marketing ploy it worked- the place was sold out and packed to the rafters. Sadly the same couldn't be said about the semi final (also the world's first and biggest derby) held there a few weeks later!

Atmosphere..at DW we lost, TKL and Nikau sent off, season opener of 2001.

Result was crap but the atmosphere was mental, similar to the Magic this year, singing from start to finish.

Even the Wigan fans sang that night 'yeah shock of horrors you can quote me on that'.

That is the beauty of sweating your own asset. You are not beholden to paying out, regardless.

I was fortunate enough to get a place on the recent RFL survey that took place at the HJ. The question of What was your favourite game was posed? People gave their accounts and when I said the 09 Semi v Wigan the group nodded with acknowledgement as they also knew what a terrific performance that was on that day. M Monnas was outstanding running their pack backwards. Mary King was immense and Chris Hicks playing catch me if you can with Phelps to seal the performance was amazing.
I also remember Ben Harrison having a decent game that afternoon too.

put a post on here( favourite wigan game ) and a few pie munchers seem to get the hump,still wouldnt expect anything else...for me it would have to be the cup semi at widnes,made even more funny when a very small percentage of wigan fans were selling their wembley weekend tickets on the following weeks..also the prem semi final 1986 at wigans central park,paul bishops 5 drop goals,you could see the frustration in hanleys face...the years a bit vague but at wilderspool when sky moved our game from tv cos they thought it was going to be one sided and they were right we wacked em...after that any win over that lot....p.s some geat memories from these games nat wood running round the concourse at the wigan end just after he scored and greg mackey on the opening day of the season tormenting wigan to death...

Got to be the 09 semi, the only thing that would top it would be if we beat them in a final.
