| Get the tram to Exchange Quay and walk over the bridge. Sam Platt's is a sound place for a bevy between there and the ground and it's only a five minute walk up.
Much better drinking there than the places between the cricket ground and the football ground.
They serve cans at a little window right inside the front door so you can get a few and drink them outside if it's dry and you can't be bothered with the queues at the bar, and there's plenty of burger vans and the like around that side of the ground, plus obviously a few decent places at Salford Quays.
I'm hoping to be at Platt's for about 2-2.30ish.

| The Metrolink Altricham line has a station near the cricket ground.
The nearest Metrolink station Old Trafford football ground is Exchange Quay on the Eccles/Media City line.
Best station for joining from Warrington trains Metrolink is Deansgate

The Met always has gone to Old Trafford on the Alty line since it was built in about 1992. The stop is just next to the original Old Trafford (cricket ground).

Walk up the steps at Deansgate Stn, walk through/over the tunnel/bridge over the road to Deansgate-Castlefield Met Station, get Altrincham or Eccles Mets out of town.

Do those trains definitely run on Grand Final day? If so that's how I'll be getting there. Far quicker and more convenient than the tram.
I've used them for United V Liverpool a few times but they weren't running for the Olympic football.

| Just to let everyone know and hopefully save people money, if you're travelling on the same day Wayfarer tickets are great value at Ā£10 adult, Ā£5 child, Ā£5 for over 60's or Ā£20 for a group of up to 4 persons (no more than 2 over 15 years of age)
Then you can use trains, buses and Metrolink plus Warrington buses.

They have been running for the last 3 years on Grand Final day. Ive always got them back to Piccadilly and then back to Leeds. Quite simple, i imagine the trams will be stocked up big time.
There are some good bars around Old Trafford that ive been to, the Lightning Bar underneath the LCCC ground and also the Trafford Bar which is about 10 minutes walk away from the ground but is normally 3/4 full and has a large outside area for when its sunny before the game (before it shovels it down during the game and stops just on full time.) I dont know if the Bowling Club is open again this year but many fans congregate on Matt Busby Way and just have a few shandys on the roadside before the game. Usually gets good banter but the occasional penis who thinks its his day to shine.
Its a great day out and if anyone is in Manchester for the day, Moon Under The Water on Deansgate is a very good place to meet fans from all clubs.

| Nice one. I take it the queues for the train aren't as excessive as they are for the tram due to far less people knowing about them?
I could do with getting to Piccadilly for 9.06pm, which would be easy enough if we lose and leave straight away, but is it remotely realistic without skipping the celebrations if we win?
