I think it should have been a ban tbh, it was needless.

It was a brutal game with many tough challenges, so I am not surprised no ban was issued.

What I disliked about this incident was that not only was it late, but Tomkins had to dive ON Myler. He could have pulled out - possibly not stopped but jumped over Myler, who had stopped completely. Other 'late' challenges that game had players RUNNING full pelt towards a standing player - very difficult to change that committed decision. Tomkins however had to slow in order to dive downwards so could have changed his decision. Disgusting.

That doesn't make it alright just because Myler wasn't injuired, if that was the case people would be doing allsorts because they'd know they wouldn't get banned if the player wasn't injuired.

I don't know why the RFL bother. But 1 match ban would have been sufficient.

I agree with a lot of your posts but, with respect, I think your point is weak and flawed. It was clearly a cowards attack, so late it was almost posthumous, and totally unneccessary and dangerous. Furthermore Tomkins did not know at the time that it would cause no injury and Myler is very lucky to escape unscathed.

Tomkins had ample opportunity to avoid contact but clearly chose to impact Myler in an illegal, malicious, way probably due to the fact we had scored and he was frustrated.

Interestingly back in the 80's he would have been royally straightened out by Boyd and/or co for such an offence against a little guy at the next appropriate on-field juncture but, alas, not anymore.
