Most SuperLeague teams are use to having the occassional Sunday/Friday turn around. This week it appeared that Wigan may have suffered from having a shorter Monday/Friday. I wonder how the fixture change of the Widnes game to a Thursday night will affect us? OR...are we looking at the possibility there will be another fixture change announcement for the Wakefield game?

The Wakefield game won't be changed as Sky have Wigan vs Huddersfield on Friday 9th August, and the Hull derby on the Sunday.

Look on the bright side, if we get there again it means extra Cup Final preparation time.

They are FULL TIME PROFESSIONALS, it doesn't and shouldn't matter one bit. Championship players have been doing it alongside full time 'real' jobs without all the recovery support available in SL.

Widnes also play on the Sunday so there is no advantage/disadvantage to either side.

The change of day for the Widnes game means I won't be able to go. I was working on the Friday & off on the Thursday but I swooped with a Colleague when the list came out. He has now made commitments and doesn't want to change back.

Fixture changing by Sky is the main reason why I don't buy a ST. When the list comes out each December I troll through my shifts for the following year and book days off to ensure I can go to as many games as poss, but then Sky come along & beggar it all up.

Of course it matters. The players are humans not robots. Fatigue is bound to kick in!

If Championship players can do it without any issue so can SL players!!!

All depends what quality you want to watch I suppose. If you want to watch players that are shot at and defences leaking points galore, no problem.....enjoy!

Its highly unlikely that they do it "without any issue" as the demands on the body are relative, but Super League is faster and more powerful, every day makes a difference to preparation. Every effort is taken to begin to prepare for the next game as soon as possible, hence the ice baths, cryo chambers, swimming and rehab, take a few days out of that prep and it causes issues.

I presume you haven't watched any Championship rugby league this year....

Say you work an 8 hour day, and finish at say 6pm. You find out that one day you're required to come in at 2am instead of 10. Is this going to have an affect on you, physically? Or because you're a 'Full time professional' you should be required to perform within any given notice period, to the same level, without feeling fatigue?

Warrington changed the Hudds fixture to a Friday the week before the Widnes game at easter, the widnes game at the end of the season which is now a Thursday was originally a friday as the cup final is the week after. That tells you all you need to know about whether coaches think players need as much time as possible to prepare for games.

Can the home team change the fixture unilaterally or do they require the agreement of the away team?

I think during the season you require both teams to agree to a change, or if requested by Sky of course, then you'd probably need a damn good reason not to play the game.

The only time Ive ever heard of a game not being changed when SKY asked was a game between us and Hull either last season or the season before. Might have been Cheshire Constabulary who had a say in that one.

No disrespect to Chaz's 'Classy Cas', but, did anyone see that result coming? Was that the turnround, or just the intensity of our game that had the desired effect? Fair to assume it was a combination of both G.O.

Do we know why it has been changed , is it for sky purposes ?

Do you play rugby? Trust me, you play a hard game and you only just recover in time for the next game. That's ammatuer rugby as well. I dread to think how the players feel the next day after a SL game. Malcolm Alkers book also sheds some light on how it feels to wake up after a game and the slippery slope of painkillers to mask the pain.

Just because they are professionals doesn't mean they heal quicker.

The only people that should have the final say on when games are due to be played is the RFL (or as previously stated the Local Police is a Safety issue)

Oh and owners of a Championship football ground who cant see that the RL will always bring in bigger crowds!

All this fixture changing is one reason the attendances are down IMO

I understand where Ganson is coming from but I agree with the consensus. If you're tired you're tired, the amount you get paid is of no consequence. You might get less sympathy if you're on a 6 figure salary but there is a price physically and mentally for every game.

Being completely honest, I don't know how anybody plays this game at that level. Incredible athletes.

Wasn't there a study by Northampton Uni in which they studied the fitness needed for all the major sports in the world and overall fitness RL was deemed the hardest, due to needing both high levels of aerobic and anaerobic fitness in equal measure.

According to warringtonwolves.org the fixture is now on Saturday 10th August at 3 pm.

I thought i'd read an article about this last week on the WG web page.

That will give us a 5 day turnround then a 9 day rest if we get to Wembley.

Well the fixture change means I can go so bicker all you want about the rights and wrongs, I'm happy with it. I won't be happy if we lose to either Wakefield (by resting players) or Widnes (by being knackered) as a result mind, or get fatigue related injuries against Widnes if we're in the Challenge Cup Final, but for now I'll see how it goes!

Mind you, Wire V Wakefield on Sunday, late shifts at work Monday and Tuesday, England V Scotland on Wednesday with overnight stay in London, Wire V Widnes on Thursday, late shift at work on Friday, Liverpool V Stoke on Saturday...

I might be collecting my bin bigs full of clothes from the driveway on the Saturday night and looking for a new place to live on Sunday.

Hmm. Scrap what I just said then as that now rules me out of the Wakefield game as I'll be at work then. Ah well, I suppose I'd rather go V Widnes than V Wakefield so swings and roundabouts.
