Quote ="mikej"Not so sure on the top-team straight into the GF as this could in the current set up come down to points difference and even the old argumnet of "who get the easy extra game". How about 6 teams, first and second play each other and winner into the GF. The remaining 4 teams play a knock-out to play the loser of 1v2 in the GF.
The 1v2 could be played on the middle playoff weekend so that the winners get a game between the last league match and the GF'"
So essentially, the last top 6 play off system?
I don't agree when the ball goes dead it should be on the 30/40m line. Thats eating up over a quarter of the pitch. An option kick on the 20m is just about right IMO and should stay like that.
East V West? Gimme a break. The quality in Yorkshire this season has been dire, and would see crowds drop significantly especially as clubs like Wigan would be making less frequent trips to the other side of the Pennines. Like it or not, Saints, Wigan and even ourselves in recent years pull in crowds across the boarder.
And where has this phrase of 'contested scrums' come from? They have always been contested and still are, there has been no change to the rule. This has come about from coaches who would rather see their team defend than waste time in the scrum where they are more susceptible to conceding a try.
The one thing I would change is to bring back the top 5 play off format. Eight is far too many and six was pushing it, but I feel 5 was just about right with the winner getting a week off after the regular season.
