| Has [url=http://www.thereddevils.net/news/post/tomkins-commits-to-devilssigned[/url a year deal.
That explains Hood's departure then.

| Not as good as Hood, first move by the club since Sheens came on board that is poor.
Other signings I am happy to give the benefit of the doubt and see how they do but I've seen enough of Tomkins to know it is clear that Hood offered much more when given his chance last season.

| This is poor was Wigan's 4th choice, but had a feeling it could happen.
Can't believe TS has been involved in this decision, Hood was surely a better option.

I too was a bit gutted when Hood left.. I enjoyed watching him play and off the bench he really upped the tempo and added some zip but maybe with the imminent reduction in interchanges.. Sheens had a look and thought he needs players who can do more minutes?...not bothered about Tomkins being Wigan's 4th best hooker ..he was good for Salford ..solid in defence..can fit straight back in and knows the structures so potentially between Lee -Tomkins and possibly O'Brien the hooking role should be adequately covered...not forgetting O'Brien has a decent boot on him.

| Does no one else feel that Hood's decision to leave was made by himself and not Salford's necessary?
He's only a young lad and has been given an opportunity of a lifetime to go and play Down Under.
He'd be foolish to turn that down and stay at Salford in my opinion.
Back on topic, I'm happy with us signing Tomkins. Dependable, hard working, honest and already knows the systems and majority of staff and players.

| Just can't get excited by this signing, doesn't give us anything going forward, this is the issue we've had for years at 9.
Most other teams have a dynamic hooker who puts the defence on the back foot.
And for what it's worth Obrien is not a hooker.

100% agree!! Tomkins and Lee aren't gonna put any defence on the back foot!

| I'll give the benefit of the doubt to Watson and Sheens.
There's nothing wrong with Tomkins, he's just underwhelming. He works hard and never seems to let his head drop, which may be an asset in the coming season if things get tough. I'm also of the opinion that Hood has gone because he's been offered the opportunity in Australia, and good luck to the lad. I certainly don't think he's been discarded in favour of Tomkins.
At the end of the day he's another hard worker in a position we were light in. There's certainly worse around.

| Tomkins has been drafted in twice , mid season in disruptive coaching , team situations. I give him credit for wanting to come back a third time.
At least he will get a full preseason so will give him the benefit of the doubt.

| I'm glad in a sense that we've addressed a 2nd hooker but i feel Hood offered more of a creative role than Tomkins. I'm very underwhelmed with Sheen's decision here. we have one of the worst hooker pairings in the league for creativity and three of the worst Props in the league in Joseph and the two walnuts. Gee we need Ferres badly it doesn't look good.

I certainly agree with the Butcher. Nothing against Tomkins, works hard. We seem to assembled a steady eddie, high work rate team. Feel we will be just treading water this next season. Interesting that a lot of the players are on one year contracts, giving Salford the scope to improve on signings for 2017 season

| Very odd signing this, given that when speaking to Sheens at the end of last season he said himself Tomkins wouldn't be retained and that he had big plans for Hood. I suppose Hood wanting to move over to Australia scuppered those plans and we've had to get someone in as #2 hooker.
The fact he has only signed a one-year-deal suggests Tomkins is just a stop gap, until something better comes along for 2017.

| I agree with the "treading water" comment and is this squad of "steady mediocurs" going to cut the mustard.
Hopefully they gel but I feel for the worst in the middle 8s Bradford will be knocking again and Leigh have recruited heavily.
I realise from first hand experience over the past two years this doesn't always work, but they will be an extremely difficult team to beat in the 8s. Especially with players out to prove a point.

| Well it's another in the long line of Salford signing the "Other brother"
Nothing against Tomkins but I hate to say it but that Yorkshire fools words (Danny Lockwood) keep on ringing in my ears "Salford will keep Wakefield off the foot of the table"
Very underwhelmed.....

| Sorry who is our director of rugby again? I'll trust the outgoing Australian coach before any of you negative lovers!!!!
Let him do his job and assemble a team with the type of players he sees fit and stop bloody moaning and dissecting every signing we make!!!
If we are a pile of cack next year then you can moan then ffs, but not a week into pre season training!!!

| Good grief what a bunch of glass half empty folk!
Can I remind you of the last two years? We signed big names on expensive contracts, had an England/GB coach running the show and got precisely where? NOWHERE!!!
I'm with NorthMancDevil and I'll trust Tim Sheen's judgement before anyone on here
FFS lighten up and let's look forward to next season

| [url=http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/seasonal-affective-disorder/Pages/Introduction.aspxsymptoms are more apparent and tend to be more severe during the close season.[/url
All gone a bit John Laurie around here ,
if Logan is ' slow 'be thankful we didn't re-sign Stuart Howarth, tectonic plates & glaciers could out-pace him.
Of the players announced so far I wouldn't say Netto, I think more TS Maxx with Vidot , Carney, Lui, Murdoch Masila, Kopczak.
Of the signings Phil Joseph is the only that I find questionable.

| Quite agree middleman, some people are over exaggerating when it comes to rating our signings. Tomkins whilst no world beater, is still a good player. As you say, Carney, Vidot, Lui, Kopczak and Murdoch-Masila are all very good signings.

| I've listed our squad, and rated them accordingly to other super league club players. On paper its worrying in my opinion. Our recruitment hasn't improved the outgoings. I doubt any of our players would get in any other Superleague team apart from Evalds, Vidot, and Carney.Kopczac borderline
1. Evalds proven quality IMPROVING talent
2. Vidot Proven quality BJB outgoing ( IMPROVEMENT )
3. Griffin - Borderline superleague quality ( STAGNANT )
4. Sau - Borderline superleague quality ( STAGNANT )
5. Carney Proven quality Replaces Johnson ( IMPROVEMENT )
6. O'Brien- Something to prove Chase outgoing ( DECLINE )
7. Dobson Bottom 4 quality ( STAGNANT )
8. Kopzac- Average Morley outgoing ( STAGNANT )
9.-Lee Tomkins- Lee Average, Tomkins - Borderline superleague quality ( STAGNANT )
10. BMM - Something to prove not played much NRL last year.Taylor outgoing (DECLINE)
11. Hauraki - Average (STAGNANT )
12. - Flanagan Average Paterson outgoing ( DECLINE )
13. - Krasniqi - Championship player Hansen outgoing ( DECLINE )
14. - Lui - queensland cup player something to prove
15. - Joseph Championship quality Tasi outgoing (DECLINE )
16. - Walnut Brothers - Championship quality ( STAGNANT )
17. - Forster - Championship quality ( STAGNANT)
18.- MCB - Something to prove Borderline superleague quality ( STAGNANT )
19. - Johnson Average ( STAGNANT )
20. Haggerty - something to prove unknown Matua outgoing ( DECLINE )
21. - Griffin Borderline superleague player ( STAGNANT

| Salford had a better squad on paper last season but acheived nothing. No team spirit till Rangi left. This season looks like Tim has gone for players that have heart and mostly team spirit. For team spirit is the no1 priority of any team.Look at Leicester City not one player would get in Chelsea or Man Citys side but are top of the premiership.
