| 'NottinghamTiger' has the scenario right on the other thread. Don't get your hopes up or expect Carney to be playing for Salford in 2017.
You can kid yourself and live in hope that he will sign for longer but, just like Scott Taylor, he will only be here for a season.
Justin Carney himself rejected a permanent/longer move to Salford.
Carney isn't wanted by his teammates at Castleford. Castleford and Darryl Powell don't see him having much of a future at the club. However only Hull and Salford showed any interest in signing Carney this season and I presume only Salford will have been willing to pay a substantial signing on fee for his services for 9 months. This meant that Castleford weren't in a position to ask for a huge fee for a permanent move for Carney. It also meant Carney wasnt in a position to ask for big wages and his options were limited. Hence the 12 month deal. In 12 months time Carney will be put on the market again and it is hoped by Castleford/Carney himself that there will be a lot more interest and competition for his signature then.
Carney's son and ex-partner/current partner still live in West Yorkshire I believe so hence why he was reluctant to join Salford permanently. There is an abundance of wingers in Super League at the minute (just look how many Catalans have) and so it is hoped that with clubs such as Leigh possibly being promoted next year (Carney has already been linked with Leigh for 2017) and clubs cap space freeing up therefore Cas can demand a bigger fee in 12 months and Carney can demand higher wages.
I notice Marwan has posted on twitter "We have an option to sign him for 2017". Seemingly this i just to appease a few fans who have questions about the signing. Basicaly, every club in rugby league has the option to sign him for 2017 because he will be back on the market. Every club has the option to sign every player at any point, this is how transfers work. Even I have the option to sign Carney for my sons amatuer open-age Sunday League team. It wont happen though

If you want, I could quite easily do what you and 'are kid' would like which is tell you all how he is going to settle in perfectly at Salford, settle down with a wife and 2.2 kids in a nice 4 bedroom detached house and become a introvert reclusive and model citizen. I can tell you all how he will be the best signing in our clubs history and will go on to play for us for another 10 years and captain the team and even become play-manager and lead us to 5 successive Grand Finals and Challenge Cups. I can tell you all how he and Junior Sau will become the best centre/wing partnership in global rugby league. I can tell you how he wont end up like the other 83 signings we've made with troublesome backrouds who've gone on to disrupt the squad and leave after 2 years.
I could tell you all this, but why?

| Bit sad this thread.
I'm not sure any other Clubs forum would put up with such blatant negativity and general taunting that this 'fan', and I use the word in its loosest sense, does on such a regular basis. It's not debate, or making a point. It's just outright negativity for negativity sake. It's getting boring now. I'm quite happy if Mario wants to debate anything but he just posts then buggers-off to post some other gem at a later date.
Will someone please give him a job?

For once Neil we concur, the slight difference is though myself and a great many others wish you didn't bother in the first instance.
As the saying goes if you can't say anything positive much better to say nothing at all.

| I shouldn't lower myself, but hey ho
Seriously, who gives a flying one. does it matter how long contracts are signed for, we have seen numerous players on long term contracts be released last season. And conversely the player we had on loan who knew they were leaving all season was our best player.
please please give up on this drivel Neil, by all means pretend to be a salford fan if you like but please stop posting this negative tripe

Every club in Rugby League has the option of signing him after the loan deal; he will be back on the market.
Any club has the option to sign any player in the world at any time, thats how transfers work.

Koukash said WE have the option to make the DEAL permanent! As in the deal we already have made, otherwise he would have said next year he'll be on the open market.

You seem to be basing your knowledge on a few words from twitter. I'm basing my judgements off what I've heard from speaking with people in the game.
There is a reason Carney hasn't already signed permanently despite Salford, and to some extent Castleford, wanting it to be permanent. Use your head and think why this is.
Carney wont be a Salford player come 2017. Bookmark this thread and bring it up again in 12 months and we'll see who's right.

| When a club has the option to sign a player that means they have a first refusal, it happened when we signed Griffin from hudds, we loaned him with an option of a permanent deal and we took up the option, we had the option to have Cory paterson for an extra year and didn't take it, so it can go either way, but trust me when a club have an option in a deal that means it's exclusive the the club who already have the player on loan, Scott Taylor this year signed a one year loan but with no option to sign permanent because he knew he wanted to leave and go to Hull, if Carney was going to be on open sale after the loan period they wouldn't bother putting in an option for a permanent deal in the contract in the first place.

| It'll be to do with terms in his contract and how do you know Salford don't want to loan first just in case they don't want him the year after? Hull FC were in for the guy and he didn't sign for them either as a bigger offer was put in by us, and you say he wants to stay in Yorkshire yet you mention leigh? Totally contradicting yourself

There is no mention of first-refusal here which is what you seem to be confusing with 'option to sign'.
Carney 100% wont be at Salford in 2017. You sound like you're trying to convince yourself.

| Your trying to convince yourself he won't be, you have no idea what will happen your just speculating as usual, an option to sign isn't a open sale at all, an option to sign is an add on deal, other wise why bother mentioning it at all in the first place? Why would koukash respond to opposition fans who are saying he's only on loan with we have an option to make the deal permanent if really we haven't he just wouldn't come out with it.

| My understanding is that there is no 'agreed fee' for Carney. The deal is a one-year loan deal with Salford paying 100% of wages.
If Salford want to sign Carney permanently they have apparently been told that he is available for no fee. However, Carney himself has to agree to the move which he is unwilling to at the moment, he would rather wait to see if there is any other interest for 2017.

| A pretty hateful topic from our faux fan.
We can all read.
It's An astute bit business.
NO Parties get tied up. We get a good winger.
Other than wages no daft transfer fees or contracts to be broken,
He gets to be in the shop window to secure a deal back in the nrl if he plays well,

| He's a very good player and I'm glad to see him here and as people have said the deal seems to work for all parties.
My only reservation is, with Taylor we knew he was only here for 12 months but being a prop there was a number of slots available in the match day squad.
Obviously wingers there are only two, so unless we're offloading someone this will cause unrest and alienate the player being left out especially if he's only going to be here for a year.
We talk about building consistency if we let for example BJB go, then Carney leaves were back to square one.

| To be honest, I cannot fathom out whywe are discussing this. Every player could leave at the end of next season. For some we will get a fee, for some we won't. Unless the world changed since I went to bed, we cannot introduce slavery or serfdom at Salford Red Devils.
So, unless Mario has some story of a player revolt to happen, say, at Easter, I don't care. I may not be alive for the 2017 season. ISIL may have taken over Peel Holdings. We could have another financial crash, putting Sky's funding in default. I may win more than £10 on the lottery.
Concentrating on 2015 and 2016.
Mario: plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose, as Barton Flyer says.

| Loan deal makes sense for all parties involved; Salford don't have to pay a transfer fee for a player with 4 years left on a lucrative contract and aren't stuck with a player for x amount of years if it doesn't work out, Castleford don't have to pay Carney anything for releasing him from said contract and Carney has 12 months to decide whether or not Salford is the right place for him to spend the next few seasons of his career. Given the off-field dramas we had last season, who can blame players for not taking up contracts longer than 12 months.
All that matters is we've got one of the best wingers in the competition in our team next season.

You cutting and pasting my comments, JGR?
Quote ="TheButcher"Decent signing.
Loan deal probably suits all. We don't have to stump-up a considerable fee, Cas gets shut of a problem. Carney has a good season/settles it may give us an option to buy at the end of next season. If he doesn't settle or plays awful he moves on or goes back to Cas.
Nobody loses out really.
It gives all parties 12 months to see where everyone's at.'"
