| Adrian 'Moz' Morley attended the meeting along with new full time academy player Etienne Ferret who has joined the club in a three year contract. He played his rugby for Lezignan in France and was spotted playing for the French cadets vs. England last summer. He came over for trials and then was offered the above contract and will train with the first team one day a week.
Forever Reds memberships are due for renewal and Trust emails will be sent out shortly.
Area fan groups were discussed and if anybody is interested please contact me or the club.
Bolton area has been set up and their first meeting is Sunday 2nd Feb at Brightmet FC in Bolton. Other areas such as Cadishead, Irlam, Trafford, Walkden, Little Hulton, and Weaste are hopefully going to start. Ideas are to run car/taxi sharing to the games, also having some events ie. quiz nights etc.
Would like everyone to listen in to Devil in the Detail @ditdsrd (twitter). The pod cast are very informative and coming up next week, a Forever Reds perspective.
Sponsor a try scheme...
Karl has worked hard over the last few seasons running the sponsor a try scheme. Would like to offer him a big thanks as he is now doing some studying and will not have time to fit this in.
Chris Nash will now be the point of contact for the scheme. Please visit the Forever Reds threat on ST or speak to him personally or Shirley Bradshaw.
You can sponsor the tries for any amount; 25p, 50p, £1 etc. for home or away tries, or both. You can also sponsor a certain player if you so wish so please get on board with this as it is a good fundraiser with minimal work involved.
Next up was Q/A with Moz...
Q/ How was the trip to South Africa?
A/ It was great. It altitude with the weather took its toll on some of the players but we got through it. We had a psychologist for 4 days who was superb. Got us to talk about lot of things about ourselves which was very enlightening.
Q/ What are the facilities like compared to Warrington?
A/ They are great. As good as, if not smaller, but everything we require is there.
Q/ How have all of the players got on?
A/ Everyone got on really well. There is a group of 5 or 6 older players who talk with Noble regularly and he listens.
Q/ How do you think the Leigh game went?
A/ A massive shock to the system with the weather, especially to all the overseas guys who hadn't played in that sort of weather before. But all in all a good hit out.
Q/ What position do you think we'll finish in? Do you think we can make the top six?
A/ Don't want to make any rash predictions but there is a lot of confidence in the team.
Q/ What players impressed in South Africa and in the game against Leigh?
A/ South Africa, everybody impressed. In the Leigh game, thought Tasi put himself out. Rangi... who knows!! Jake Millany and Greg impressed. Told the new guy the overseas weather will get better.
Q/ How do you think the Warrington friendly will go.
A/ Really looking forward to it. They've also had three weeks away warm weather training so they'll be ready for the hit out.
Q/ What do you think of the new format, the 2x12... 3x8?
A/ Think it will be good for the game. Think P&R is needed.
Q/ Will this be your last year of playing? Are you interested in coaching?
A/ Keeping my options open. Won't close the door on playing. With all the training techniques now available to players, Jamie Peacock and Ryan Giggs prove you can carry on and they are an inspiration. Not really bothered re-coaching. Tried with the 16s and didn't do anything for me. Don't want to go out of the game so looking more on the admin side of things to stay involved.
Q/ Has any of the pundits words been used to motivate ie Dads army, older players?
A/ Everyone knows what's being said and we know everyone will be out to beat us next season. Will just make us want to try harder.
Q/ What's the injury situation?
A/ Hock, Hanson, and Rapira should all be ready for the Wakefield game. Just precaution they're not in the friendlies.
Q/ Do you think any of the young guys are ready to step up into the first team?
A/ Yes. Any of them could. All went to South Africa and all impressed, didn't look out of place. Jason Walton and the Walne brothers went really well.
Q/ What's your take on Brian Noble?
A/ Worked with him before. His man management skills are excellent. Think he is the perfect coach to take us forward.
Q/ Perception of Noble has always been five drives and a kick. Is that the play we will be using?
A/ That was because of the pack he had at Bradford and it won him trophies, but he has brought a superb backline into Salford so, no, it won't be five drives and a kick.
Q/ Did you take much persuading to come to Salford and did Marwan approach you?
A/ No, didn't need much persuading at all. Been a Salford fan from childhood. Played in schoolboy finals at the Willows and always dreamt of playing for the Salford team. My family's over the moon about it, especially my mum. Marwan approached Warrington to speak to me and they said no, but I heard about it and asked them if I could as it was something I had always wanted to do.
Q/ Which game are you most looking forward to in the new season?
A/ Probably Wigan. Always good, hard games.
Q/ New stadium - Willows
A/ Loved the Willows as I said, played schoolboy games their and got signed for Leeds playing there. But the facilities left a lot to be desired and I understand the move to the new stadium where we now have top class facilities.
Q/ Who's the toughest forward you've played against?
A/ Gordon Tallis. He was my idol and then I lined up against him vs. Australia. He stared me out at the line up but I ended swapping shirts with him at the end of the game and I was over the moon when he said 'I've been watching you and you will go far.'
Q/ Who was your Salford hero as a youngster?
A/ Got to say my hero was Shane Hanson. Told Harrison while we were in SA and it was a really nice moment.
Q/ What will your idea of success be this season?
A/ Well, I'll have to wait and see. Hope to be competitive. Hopefully we will surprise a few teams.
...That brought the meeting to an end, apart from telling Moz to tell the team Wakefield is a must win game for the fans.
Cheers. Thanks to everyone who attended.
