| Not on WADA's list. You do mean diazepam, aka, valium, right?

| I'm not expert here but it isn't on WADA's banned list. However, Valium, if this is effectively what we are talking about here, is a class C drug and one should only be in possession of it with a prescription.

| As I understand it, and it's important although not imperative I do, that's correct.

Apologies for spelling, I should have checked, I was spelling it phonetically... Very interesting that it is not on the banned substance list that seems to make a lot of sense. Yes, it's a rugby league thing, an England thing, and a Salford red devils thing. Go figure...

| Diazipan can make you sleepy and your reactions a lot slower, probably what made Kevin Sinfield miss that tackle in the last 20 Secs at Wembley !!

| Amazing how a drug that makes you sleepy can be blamed for coming out of the defensive line too quickly!

| I suppose such a story would raise a some issues:
[list* Could diazepam be used to gain a competitive advantage? (I have no idea.)
* Could diazepam mask the existence of banned substances in the body? (I have no idea.)
* Are players in possession of diazepam without prescription? (I suppose many people are and buy it online, but it’s not good exposure if you’re in the public eye, like a professional sportsperson.)
* Does this highlight the mental stresses on the modern, professional rugby league player and how they are struggling to cope? (Wouldn’t be surprising.)

| *are players using diazepam to get off their faces recreationally before a big game in the world cup and not able to train, just giggle, shadow box then actually box on the side of the pitch in Loughborough. Too late to send one home as the whole weeks training has been geared up with that one player in a pivotal position, the other dispensed with immediately (had to be driven home). Once the game was out of the way, the other was "dropped" for the following game. More than one club involved.

| diazepam ( Vallium )
isn't on any banned list either out or In Competition.
Also checked on ASADA Aus under RL
and USADA site no mention there either.
Are we skirting close to the AUP here? implying a wrong doing verging on the criminal ...
Also bearing the SL support of ' State Of Mind' campaign there would be a plausible reason for it's use. Just saying

| i would need to know more about this drug before I would say it has the above effects.
Alker, in his oft-misquoted book, refers to how "medicinal drugs" are misused by clubs who give them out to their staff. Players are expected to get over injuries quickly and return to the field in less than a week. This means that the repercussions of the taken drugs are ignored: he refers to this in detail.
So could the cocktail have caused the issues being referred to? A cocktail that may have tacit agreement by authorities who need to get players fit quickly for a very bruising job?

| As someone who suffers with depression. Valium wouldn't be prescribed to a sportsperson who suffers due to its side effects. So the State Of Mind campaign won't have much of a say in all this i think.
Mentions of recreational use may be nearer the mark.
