Out of all the incredible players we've had in our history, there's some crazy suggestions on FB. I urge anyone off here to go and put some proper names down before we get pictures of Alker, Luke Robinson, Tex Evans, Steve Blakeley, and loads of other decent but not iconic Salford Legends.

I presume RR has gone for Caridge?

By Legends, you mean players such as:

Shaun Brown
Chris Morley
Phil Hassan
David Fell

Risman.
Hesketh.
Watkins.
Charlton.
Nash.

There's lots too chose from, lets hope when the announcements are made before the last game that there's lots of future legends announced.

In all fairness the likes of Risman, Watkins, Todd, Hesketh, Charlton and Lomas are all way infront.

I think its difficult for a lot of younger people voting for the likes of Hesketh, Watkins etc.. when they never got the privilege of seeing them play. I started watching in 1984 so my players would be from that era onwards. Not chosen only for their talent but their commitment and passion for the club. Steve Kerry, Adrian Hadley, Fata Sini, Sean Rutgerson, Malc Alker etc...not superstars of the game but legends to me and many others.

One player from every era would be ideal.... Split the number of years the club has existed...

Legend 1... 1873-1901

Legend 2... 1902-1930

Legend 3... 1931-1959

Legend 4... 1960-1988

Legend 5... 1989-Present

I'll leave you guys to fill in the names.

Legend 1... 1873-1901 - Harry Eagles ( Over 260 games for Salford , 18 county caps & represented Country 35 times , including inurgual Tour of Australasia in 1888 )

Legend 2... 1902-1930 - James Lomas ( 300 games for Salford Spanning a 20 yr career ) GB Captain on 1st Tour of Australia 1910, pioneer & points scoring machine

Legend 3... 1931-1959 - A J Risman - (over 400 games for Salford - Captain challenge Cup Winning team 1938- Captained Ashes Winning Tour 1946 etc, etc )
Legend 4... 1960-1988 - (Chris Hesketh - 450 club games - Captain of last Ashes winning series 1970, world cup winner 1972 etc captain of NZ Tour 1974 winning 2-1, Captain of last Salford League winning side 1975/6.)
Legend 5... 1989-Present

I'd agree with all of the above, although my Dad will argue for David Watkins over Chris Hesketh for Legend 4.

I'd go with those MM.

I'd love to see a local brewer do some legends beers served at the ground. 'pint of Lomas please and a half of Hesketh for the mrs'

Harry Eagles - Salford - 35 RU England/ British Isles Caps .

It appeals to me to have the Sale fans walk past a banner / mural showing a Salford Player with more RU caps than most Sale players bar Charlie Hodgson..

You can't knock that maybe the club should take note, that said it would hurt me to much not to have Dai the "king" Watkins in there somewhere.

I'm 30 and have watched Salford since I was 13, so 1996. 17 years without much to shout about, so "legends" in that time are pretty hard to find. Blakeley, Alker etc may not be legends of Rugby League, but within the last couple of decades they're as close as some of us have had the pleasure of watching for Solly.

Think it would be better to get the East stand all standing, to recreate the shed alongside the pitch. You are nearer to the play in the East stand, the view from the South stand is awful. Put seating in the South stand

Your assuming that the SMC would sell it anyway. The best bet would be to get a decent local brewery to look into it, though are there any decent local brewers? Holts would be the obvious choice but its hardly a decent pint at the best of times never mind before the trained chimps at the stadium have poured it.

Correction - Holts IS a good pint but youngsters there days drink flavorless lager.

I disagree but then it's only my job to know decent beer so I guess I'm misinformed



I do know it's all personal taste but to an entity like the SMC they have to look at what will sell, it's not like it's a pub that's open daily to enable them to shift stocks.

Holt's is a great pint. I don't understand MR's problem with it.

I've been informed Hydes is now brewed in Salford. Get a tie up with them and get the Gold on the bar. Simple.
