| Reading in the League Express, That Stevo is talking of him retiring in 3 years time when his Sky contract is up.
Could we not do a half time collection next match, and get him to retire straight away ?

| Yes,I think it's time that he retired but no need to start slagging him off.
His heart is in the right place and ,as his museum demonstrates, he is a real aficionado of the game.
He has been good for Rugby League

I'm pretty sure he plays up to the 'on-screen character' that he's created.

I think he's a pretty awful commentator.
However, he's a great bloke who loves the game dearly and has sank his life into it. Out of the two, I prefer Stevo as Wiggy is just opinionated and useless.

Get some young blood commentating on a game that is fast and furious not people stuck in a time when Jim Mills took a mud bath every week before getting sent off.

| If Kevin Sinfield doesn't go into coaching when he retires I wouldn't be surprised if he replaces Stevo. Sinfield is an intelligent bloke and could have a similar positive effect Gary Neville has had with the football. I personally would like a better and a more current insight to the tactical side of the modern game and I think KS could potentially offer that.
No disrespect to Stevo but he hasn't pulled a shirt over his head for 35 years. Add Eddie (Just for Men) and Shaun to that and you have a very antiquated frontline commentary team with no modern day playing experience, or playing experience whatsoever.
It may seem harsh but there must be better and more knowledgeable people to do these jobs and promote modern day RL.

Character is very important too, and the problem with Sinfield is that he has quite a monotone voice. He could receive training for this; Linekar was shocking when he started out, for example. Shearer, on the other hand, is a lost cause. He could be espousing the greatest tactical nouse of all-time, but he'd already put me to sleep.

| I think Sky have been looking for a replacement for Stevo for a few years. I think they thought that Phil Clarke might have been the man, but although I knew him some years ago, he bores the life out of me. So they brought Brian Carney in. To me, he is the most likely, and acceptable replacement, but why do we have to wait 3 years??
I agree that Stevo made a huge contribution to the exposure of rugby league twenty years ago, but I think he is past his sell by date.
Hemmings was fortunate enough to be paired up with Stevo and has made a good living from it. But, frankly, when I hear some of the nonsense that passes for commentary, particularly if compared with the RU commentaries, I cringe.
Not only that, but their ineptitude when it comes to the rules causes problems for referees of amateur matches on a weekly basis.
Stevo has a very limited vocabulary, so he uses the same terms and phrases continually. One of those that winds me up particularly is "the ball seems to have drifted forward"! Those of us who know better, are aware that it doesn't matter where the ball drifts after it has left the hands - it's where the hands initially direct it! Hopefully Cummings will correct him on air in the not too distant future.
Beyond that, Stevo never "uses". He always "utilises". It is never a try, it is always a T R Y. And he always knows the mindset of either of the coaches of the day: "Brian Noble will be furious!" Or "that'll please their coach!"
But there's another thing I find aggravating. Stuart Cummings in the commentary box over the past couple of weeks. And Hemmings is forever asking Cummings to comment on the accuracy of the officials' decisions. "And what do you think Stuart?"
For the sake of the game, we need to have a more professional commentary team, in my opinion. But I would never question Stevo's loyalty and passion for the game.

| The commentary has been too predictable for years with more of an emphasis on humour or controversy than the technical/tactical aspect of the game. Why? Quite simply to fill airtime and makeup for the void of not being able to offer anything interesting or fresh.
It’s become stale and has similarities to the Premier League football coverage a few years ago with Richard Keys and Andy Gray. The Sky appointment of Gary Neville last year was a masterstroke. I have to admit I was really surprised at just how intelligent, knowledgeable, interesting and educational it is to listen to him.
I think Superleague coverage would improve immensely if Sky could unearth a similar figure.

| Talking about Stevo, the heritage museum he fronted has been without a home since The George Hotel went into administration/receivership/new ownership. I wonder whether our stadium could host it.
Largely hypothetical as I'm sure the rent would be ludicrous. However, it wouldn't require that much space and would help make the ground more of a destination spot on non-match days. Plus the club shop could skim off some profit from selling heritage related items.

think of the comparisons that would be made with the footie museum in Manc
it would emphasise how much RL is a minority sport just as the good doctor is upping interest in Manchester.

| They should get the bloke who used to commentate on the Salford videos. He was hilarious. His commentary at the end of the Premiership final was fantastic. "Bad tempered Halifax, Salford have won and that's all we need to know". He then starts chanting Salford with the fans. Another funny was against Wigan when we beat them twice in a couple of weeks. Birkett scored in the corner after a slick passing move and he screamed " Market Burnett". He was like a real Alan Partridge.

| Ok, I take back what I said before. Watching the Widnes v Wigan game and he really is clueless. There is no way the try Wigan just scored was obstruction and it wasn't in any way, shape or form similar to the one Leeds had disallowed at Magic Weekend

RU commentary is personality-free and almost every RU fan I know has said they enjoy Eddie and Stevo's commentary.
We will miss Stevo when he's gone, we just don't realise it yet.

Stevo is a great rugby league man but he's not a good commentator. On regards to what he says I always notice he says things like "Tony Smith realises..." and then tells us what he thinks TS realises.

| I really like him, I think his passion for the game is evident in how he talks it up, but more than that, he's a recognisable face of rugby league. Friends of mine who dont watch the sport, know who he is. I surely cant be the only one who loves his catchphrases. Brian Carney would be the obvious replacement for me, I think he's been a master stroke. Very knowledgable, played the modern game on both sides of the world and able to get his points across

| I think he is brilliant as a person and a TV personality, the game really will miss him and I have been saying for some years now that if anyone in the rugby league community deserves an MBE surely it is him.
I often hear people say that the commentary team on Sky puts people off watching, however having just spent three years at uni I have mates from down south who couldn't name a single player, but show them a picture of Stevo or play a clip of his voice they will know exactly who it is. Likewise my Grandparents have recently got into watching RL on sky, they have said they love the banter which you get between them as you rarely hear the same with the football. They only know the basics of the sport but can enjoy watching and listening to them, even though they don't really know what they are talking about it comes across to them as something entertaining and exciting. Contrast that to Woods and Davies on the BBC who could send a glass eye to sleep.
I think that Sky have to cater to a wide audience, not just those like ourselves who know the sport inside out. The downside to that is that we maybe don't get the detailed insights one might expect.
