| Just a quick one, correct me if I'm wrong it currently we pay a small fee to the Leigh Sports Village for use of their training facilities. Can anyone tell me what these facilities have that we don't have at Barton? From using both myself, Barton has a better astro turf pitch and the grass pitch is also in excellent condition. In addition we also obviously have the Your Fit gym.
I'm sure it's been mentioned before but I don't understand why we are not training at Barton?

| From what I have heard the weights in the gym at the ground arnt heavy enough? Im not sure how heavy these weights need to be mind and I presume its probably bad for the gym when you see a professional athletes pushing their bodies so hard they are sick / swearing ect everywhere thats how I image it anyway.
Heard the training pitches are prone to waterlogging perhaps that's why we don't use them.
Nobby have spoken before about getting our own training facilities but where there would be space I have no idea

Where's the space? Are you serious? Have you seen how big the overall site is?

I believe there is an RFL club just the other side of the M60, come to some arrangement with them and build the facilities we need.
As for the weights aren't heavy enough, I've been to specialist training camps that are used by the GB athletics team. When you get 20/30 guys trying to squat upwards of 200kgs, etc, etc, the heavy plates disappear pretty quickly.

| If the weights aren't big enough, why not buy some? It'd be a damn site cheaper than feathering somebody else's nest in Leigh. Also if the grassed pitch water logs use the astro next to it! Seems crazy.

Paul Highton said as much a while back. There’s an issue with drainage.

Trump card is sale fc (the other RU club in sale who now play at Heywood Rd) own all that land there so they have to look after their own im guessing.

Correct! I have a few mates in elite sports of various denominations and from what I hear, the facilities they are privvy to are phenomenal. Twice the size of the average gym with twice as many weights and floor space, all in use in unison under the supervision of specially trained scientists. I know my mates in swimming undergo regular weekly tests that measure for blood lactate levels, free radicals, red blood cell count, cardiovascular output etc etc etc. They're essentially pin cushions!
From what I hear from another mate currently working towards his Ph.D in sport science, in conjunction with Warrington, there are only a sample of clubs in rugby league remotely close the elite standard when it comes to sport science. Surprisingly, we're not one, shy by a good couple of £million of infrastructure and invaluable connections with university based sport scientists. Although if anyone at the club reads this, you may want to consider contacting MMU, your local sport science friends!
Sport has changed and Salford RL would need to undergo a complete overhaul just to keep close to the shirt tails of the others clubs in respect of training facilities.

So basically eccles are looking (hoping) for Salford to build them new facilities?
I actually hope we do look at Carrington as if they have been good enough for the previous premier league champions then they would be quite possibly the best in the game of RL!

| Didn't the Aussies train there last time? Though Thurston got his wonder drop goal from the corner flag down in Carrington.
You'd see City's facilities being second to none globally with the money there owners have to invest, would you think give the club a definate edge if we did get them but then again if they still serve bacon buttys for lunch and don't employ the right people to work there then they could be a waste of money.
Said it with the marketing but Salford need to approach higher education facilities and get the best up and coming students involved to assist the club with their knowledge but then also help the students with experience at the coal face of their chosen field and see sports science, conditioning and nutrition as being no different.

| Ayers Rock what is your issue with Eccles RL? You're obviously affiliated to another local amateur club and would appear to be extremely negative towards any suggestions regarding Salford developing on Moat Hall.
It's a typical attitude I find throughout amateur clubs in Salford, why you're not embracing the idea and discussing the many positives such a development and partnership could bring is pathetic.

last week in the webchat with Ed farish someone put the following
[iIf we can't use land around the stadium to build training facilities, what about coming to an arrangement with Eccles? A sort of we build facilities that they can share, this gives back to community and improves our own setup.[/i
and now again a push on this thread for Salford build at eccles. So 2+2 an all that.

| Think you will that Eccles do not own their ground, they lease it from the Council. Development on that site therefore may prove difficult, not sure for example if there are any covenants, planning restrictions etc.

I put the question to Ed Farish.
Even though I played there briefly as jnr, I've had no affiliation to the Eccles club for a long time, and having lived over the other side of country for nearly fifteen years there are no plans to become involved with Eccles again.
So no hidden agenda here, just want what's best for the Red Devils.

It's a very good suggestion that you make. Long term this club will only have a viable future if we can start to produce local youngsters capable of putting on the red shirt at super league level. We need to work closely with all the local amateur clubs in the city if we are to have local youngsters in our team. If we are able to build facilities that benefit not only ourselves but one of the local amateurs clubs then even better.

My train of thought was along the same lines, what better way to engage with the community than to provide training assistance. I'm sure something could be done for other local clubs, it doesn't necessarily have to be financial assistance. The Red Devils could assist with obtaining grants, or sending strength and conditioning coaches out to work with the younger players.
