| Has anything official been announced to say they are the new club sponsors?
I know were waiting (with less and less patience in my case) for movement on the new ownership but I don't see why that would stop a new sponsor being unveiled unless this is subject to new ownership being in place?
Pretty similar on the shirt side, can't see how a new owner will have any baring on the design of the shirt so surely again releasing details (or at the very least images) of it would help to allay some fears and promote a bit of positive press rather than the current doom and gloom.

| It seems everything's dependent on what happens investment-wise and once everything's sorted it'll be all systems go...
Mr. Barker's not got long for his latest "this is the week" prediction to come true...

Seems odd that if they have for example images of the new shirt that they don't release images to at least calm a few nerves.
Have to admit to getting more and more jittery on the outcome of the apparent investment.

| I'm kind of hoping it might all happen together: press conference on new ownership, with Martin Gleeson and Andrew Dixon introduced wearing the new shirt(s) and sponsors announced.
I can hope.

Speculating and making 'big name signings' in the hope of attracting more support got us into this situation. I think the best we can hope for is a couple of loan signings and maybe some championship players with something to prove.
I think it’s going to be a slow process because I can’t see the new owners wanting to take the same gamble in this economic climate until they are confident that more people in Salford will get behind their local club.

I must of missed those big name signings....
We wasted a load of money on crap, half of whom weren't fit in the final year of the last franchise, which was stupid as we were clearly going to be awarded one no matter happened.
It's hard to portray this as akin to say Leeds United were they spent wildly in order to reach for the top and failed. Our plan was presumably to move from 10th to 8th, hardly going to get the crowds pouring in. Our financial problems are more deep rooted than that.

Think the forum could have been used to help pass the time if we knew it would be taking so long.
We could have had posters suggesting appropriate songs;I would go for [url=http://www.lyricsfreak.com/k/kinks/tired+of+waiting+for+you_20079006.htmlTired Of Waiting for you - Kinks[/url and [url=http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Waiting-in-vain-lyrics-Bob-Marley/80D39880DE683A6848256945000D32ABWaiting In Vain - Bob Marley[/url
Even now we could have little bets (on when an announcement will be made) and someone may be on a nice little earner for Christmas.
[url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rip_Van_WinkleWe could sleep through it but that wouldn't be so tense[/url
I am unable to think of any witty aphorism, but while temporarily homeless came across something outside a church which led to finding a quote from Carl Jung,a philosopher I hadn't heard of,( I only went to school for a free lunch one June day one year ) it may be appropriate -
[iWhen we must deal with problems, we instinctively resist trying the way that leads through obscurity and darkness. We wish to hear only of unequivocal results, and completely forget that these results can only be brought about when we have ventured into and emerged again from the darkness. But to penetrate the darkness we must summon all the powers of enlightenment that consciousness can offer.[/i
Of course, the delay may be if everyone has to read and digest [url=http://www.amazon.com/Who-Moved-My-Cheese-Amazing/dp/067104334XWho Moved My Cheese[/url
This post is dedicated to all those Rip Van Winkles out there !

Come on Walshovski don't play silly buggers you know full well what I meant. There was a significant increase in the player budget in an attempt to gain some momentum and you know it. OK maybe not on a level to Leeds United in football but enough to create the financial problems the club finds itself in today.
The club would have been equally criticised if they hadn't speculated before moving to Barton. There would have been people on here whining about the club lacking ambition had they not increased the player budget. Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?
I agree that some of the signings turned out to be poor and the squad did not perform to their potential but to say the financial problems are more deep rooted is utter garbage. These financial problems are recent (not historical) and a result of increasing the player budget, not getting bigger crowds and having fewer income streams than they had at the Willows. And don't throw the company accounts at me because a lot of the long term debt was simply loans from the directors that I doubt they ever thought they would get back.

I think "speculating" was part of the problem. There were arguably safer, more solid signings that could have been made, but we appeared to splash cash based on past reputations. Two of the "big signings" never played for the club, one took a year to get remotely fit, others were plagued by injuries. And it wasn't really surprising. I remember reading at the time a couple of journalists saying how the word in the game was that Salford had "signed a few lemons", then the stories came out about the club not bothering with medicals before signing.
There's little doubt that the playing budget was increased, but it wasn't increased very wisely.

I agree some (not all) of the signings turned out to be poor but that's not my argument. It was still a better squad in 2011 & 2012 than the club had in 2010. Could better signings have been made? Yes but would better signings have put another 3000 on the gates in this economic climate? I very much doubt it.
We can all be smart ar$e$ and identify mistakes with hindsight can't we? and I can't remember too many on here being critical when some of these signings were announced. Quite the opposite as I remember, people were getting a bit giddy.

| I can see PV bringing in Aussies. Looking at AdamJK's squad post we only seem to have Shannon Mc on the quota. Whether that's a wise move or not is anyone's guess, but it would make a little more sense in that by the time we actually are in a position to sign players there will be little left in the UK, and a larger pool of has-beens/rejects etc are available from down under.

Just because some were getting giddy at the time doesn't mean others weren't looking at the likes of Anderson, Bailey, Feka and Wild and questioning their fitness/injury records.

There was the half from Melbourne being touted (McGhan). Realistically, unless deals have already been done, we'll have to look at picking up fringe players with some kind of UK/EU heritage to get round the work permit rules (regardless of quota situation).

I think you have Mr McRae to thank for these signings, he was quoted at the time saying he wanted more experianced players in his squad.

| At this stage of pre season I'd settle for Aussies, Kiwis or any South Sea Islander.
I'm actually not really worried about the backs if the young full back from Wigan signs, we get Gleeson and are prepared to let Ford show his class think we've got a decent back line.
But we need to get a couple of no nonsense props (Mason would do for a start) and with Moon going (get the feeling Moon was going to be the experienced half back partner this year) we need a wise old head in the halves, can honestly see if we struggle to get one that come the start of the season Long will be in the team.

There may be nearly a full team of ' Italians ' to choose from ?
Re, McPherson wasn't he signed off a Crusaders defaulted contract and thereby given dispensation ?
there may be deals done in principle from Veivers Visit in Oct , but the window of opportunity to get new Player additions, and launching New Season Passes & Hospitality / Business sponsorship is getting narrower by the day.

Yes. He confirmed it himself at a FR meeting last season. So we currently have no quota players.

I find it odd that if we have no quota spots taken that we have only heard a mention of the young lad from Melbourne (who I fail to see coming to Salford as he is meant to be something very special) yet PV spent some time over in Oz, maybe he was busy getting all those hollow promises to return from Moon.
