| A friend who lives in Whitehaven has told me that their normal price is £12 but the RFL have told them it's got to be £15 for this match.

That's interesting. I've just had a look at the RFL's Operational Rules and there's nothing in there on ticket pricing that I can see. I know the FA have something for their competitions that states a minimum ticket price for each round unless agreed otherwise by the two clubs. I would have thought that would be the same for the Challenge Cup, if there is any sort of regulation somewhere.

Quote A3:10 The Gate Receipts of all Cup Ties from the Third Round up to and including the quarter finals
shall be allocated as follows, save when an overseas club is involved in which case special
rules will apply as agreed by the Board from time to time or when the Board considers that
other exceptional circumstances apply:
(a) From the net Gate Receipts (ie, gross Gate Receipts less VAT) there shall be deducted:
(i) 5% which shall be paid into the Cup Pool within seven days of the Cup Tie by the
home club (by cheque addressed to the Finance Director and made payable to the
RFL); and
(ii) For visiting Clubs the cost of their travelling expenses.
(iii) For Clubs in the Championships and non member Clubs drawn at home, the sum of
£1,000 plus 15% of gate receipts (net of VAT and any levy applicable) to be
retained to cover the home Club’s Match expenses;
(iv) For Super League Clubs drawn at home, 15% of gate receipts (net of VAT and any
levy applicable) to be retained to cover the home Club’s Match expenses;
A3:11 The remaining balance of the net Gate Receipts after making the deductions set out above
shall be divided equally between the competing Clubs, and the home Club shall make the
payment to the visiting Club within 7 days of the Cup Tie. However, at the conclusion of the
Cup Tie (including a Void Tie) the home side shall hand to the secretary of the visiting team (or
other Club Official) a cheque for 30% of the remaining balance of the Gate Receipts on
account of their share of the Gate Receipts.
If the net Gate Receipts are not sufficient to cover the entire expenses of a Cup Tie the
RFL shall decide how the proceeds are distributed including what shortfall shall be borne
by each Club. Operational Rules – Section A3 – Finance – Issue 10 – February 2012 142
'" )
Whitehaven average 700 for home matches, If you read the guidlines above they may have taken the world view their pricing may not be enough to leave any discernable profit , Whitehaven are still in administration after going bust in 2010 owing 330K to creditors / taxman.

| Cheers, I must've looked at the wrong section or just missed it. I can see Whitehaven taking the decision to stick a few quid on top but I'm still not convinced the RFL have told them that they have to.
I'm not complaining about the price by the way, just interested in how the decision was made and how the blame's getting passed back to the RFL.
