From the looks of that ( and I'm not business guru) as I've said before if not for Wilkinson Star He'd be a failed business man

And without John Wilkinson,we'd be a failed Rugby club!

Correction we already are a failed rugby club! Hanging onto a SL franchise by goodwill from the RFL hardly makes us a success!

However I have and always will respect JW. For everyone acknowledges that without him we wouldn't have a club to support at all.

From a fan of a club who has had more than its fair share of bad news, i wish you all well!!!

Firstly this is based on 2010 accounts not 2011.

We all know that trading whilst you know you are insolvent will get you in trouble. Therefore I would advise caution. There are a number of things that aren't obvious for this basic information. Liabilities can be misleading.


having said that we know that the club isn't the richest club by some way.

We have always managed to avoid Insolvency and I'm sure we can struggle though.

In the main the Current Liabilities relate to monies put in by JAW, HC & IW to sustain the presence of the club.

The Bank Overdraft is again Guaranteed by the three good men.

The comparisons are almost meaningless.
We know that the only reason this club survives is because it is supported from JWs own pocket.
This is not about being an apologist for JW. He doesn't need me to do that for him.
It's a straightforward statement of the way it is.
He can still get things wrong,though,as he did with Parrish but its his toy to play with and we all know his heart is in the right place.
Ignore the financial comparisons.
We are skint and we should know it

Supported yes, I don't doubt anybody thinks differently, although by how much or what benefits he may get in return for his support is anybodys guess? It's also supported by 1 million pounds a year from Sky TV plus major sponsorship deals and gate receipts as well as other directors support and sundries.

Does anyone know the figure that you would be looking at to run a club like Salford for the year allowing for a full salary cap and decents backup on team?.

I would reckon that to run a winning club would take an initial £5m investment, unless you want to buy the new ground as well, this would be pushed upto £25m, which will as the team becomes successful become a lot less with money coming in from Fans, advertising, replica goods and TV money, meaning a minimum outlay or quite likely a positive return each season.

Take the figures with a pinch of salt

Don't be too surprised if said 'liabilities' are mainly non repayable loans to the directors, just like they are at Citeh and Chelsea. They'll still need to be shown on the balance sheet

Wakey and Crusaders got in to trouble i'm guessing because the money they owed was to people who weren't prepared to write it off

Granted, that the bulk of liabilities are probably made up of by the directors loan accounts, but the you have to ask why is that figure increasing, the answer is easy the club doesn't generate enough of it's own income.
That makes it a very difficult re-saleable item, after all who want's to repay another directors debt without the posibility of a return on capital input.
Put simplistically Salford as with many other clubs need a "Roman Abramovich.".......Not seen many of them down weaste recently.!!

i'm not sure whether that figure is increasing year on year as i haven't seen the accounts but i can only assume that if that is the case then it is the result of the directors investing in the club, playing staff and the youth development in schools etc (probably the best sales and marketing pitch we'll ever have) whilst effectively subsidising the cost to the fans who come through the gate. At the end of the day, i'm sure fans of every club would prefer its liabilities to lie with it's directors in the form of non repayable loans rather than high risk bank loans secured against their ground.......

As for a "Roman Abramovich", i'm sure every club would love one but no one buys a rugby club to make money, most do so as they have an affinity with the club and want it to succeed/survive. i think it was Milan Mandaric who once said something along the lines of, "owning a football club will make you a millionaire, you just have to start out as a billionaire"
