I came to the decision many months ago that you're an individual I'm happy not to converse with. This will be the last occasion I trouble myself in replying to one of your posts.

| I feel that the issue is baffling: we know that there will months of "consultation" that will mean changes to minor matters and so the (to Londoners) cosmetic change from Swinton may happen.
Also a facebook campaign is precisely that: a campaign on an easily ignored media outlet. We need to have a campaign on the Downing Street website. Letters to the PM. Appeal to the Queen etc.

| The Queen of course was famously overheard when opening Newbridge in ECCLES that she didn't like Manchester at all!! Not too sure how she'll react to appeals about Salford - but then she's never appealed to me

I know. It's deeply disheartening.

Well, I agree. An assault on the powers that be from all angles would be far more productive.
Can I presume from the few replies this topic has received that the majority of you are fine with the planned boundary changes and further abolition of Salford?

| When you look at the turnout for voting in Salford is it any wonder why people aren't bothered.
The problem with salford is it's lack of central identity due to the mediocre shopping centre and the lack of "hub to Salford. It doesn't look like a city infact towns like rochdale, Bury, Bolton look more substantial and "city like"

Which is precisely why the council is attempting to create a city identity through ventures such as the regeneration of the Quays and Chapel St.
Also, I wouldn't necessarily define a city by whether it has a centre like the aforementioned. You'll find that many cities in the UK lack the kind of town centre you mention. Winchester, Cambridge and Cirencester for example.
Hey, I was under the impression that Salford people were proud of their heritage and distinction from Manchester. Perhaps less so than I thought.

For people who want to do something about it, North west Labour are holding a meeting tomorrow to come up with a united response to the changes, it is not about losing Salford but democracy itself, Leigh will not even be in Leigh with the new boundaries.
The public meetings will be held on the 10th and 11th October (tories didn't want these to happen, Labour Peers forced it on them) but during the day.
To have your say the website is:-
consultation.boundarycommissionf ... -your-say/
remember don't go on about the name but about the lack of democracy, one fact you could quote, the Isle of Wight has a total population of 140,200 will get 2 dedicated MPs, whilst Salford with a population of 221,000 will only have one dedicated MP.
