I asked the Head of Art at our school on the Wirral to paint me a picture of the Willows and gave him some photo's and this is what he came up with!


Now considering he's never even been to the place all I can say is wow!!!

Good work.

Oh it's going in a frame alright and on my wall MR the club aren't getting their hands on the original!!!!! Might look into getting some prints made though!

Can I ask what is in the foreground? is it the ghost of players past?

The artist felt there was too much green in the foreground and wanted to break it up with a splash of colour, so he put a shirt draped by the side of a rugby ball.

If Forever Reds can get a print of this sorted I'd definitely get a nice one of those up on the Living room wall.

Great pic, but can ask why there's shawdows of floodlights coming from the club end?

Well let's just call it artistic licence shall we? As I said on the first post the guy who did it has never been to the Willows and isn't a sports fan. He was just working from some photo's and I think he assumed that the lights went right round. It was something I noticed when I got the painting home but if you let your eye be drawn into the corner between North Stand and Main Stand you don't really notice the fore ground and what is left is the magnificent view of the Old Girl in all her glory.

That's seriously good! I'd definitely be interested in a print!

How much would people be willing to pay for a quality print of the painting? Web sites I've found so far suggest that for an A3 size print on quality canvass style paper it would cost around £15-£20. What do people think of that price (that would include a small profit for Forever Reds!!!)

very good picture, which brings out the history of Rugby league as well in portraying it as a sport born under the heavy industrial storm clouds of the north, it is representing an autumn time at the club with the shadows on the pitch and awaiting a new dawn in the summer months at a new place.
