| It says in the newspaper that a new coach should be appointed by the end of the week. With this in mind if you could offer 3 areas of advice to work on/ make changes, what/where would they be?

| He needs to recognise that the terraces are full of people who know more about coaching than he does, and that they are always right. Even when they're wrong, they're right. And they're entitled to their opinion, and to express that opinion forcefully and repetitively. You, of course, should show those fans the utmost respect at all times. You should never answer back or show any anger. You should be positive and be prepared to recognise the truth in everything they say.
It's better that way.

| well....
1) The new coach will need to bring in new ideas both on and off the field regarding tactics, throw away our late 90s early 2000 playbook and try and seek advantages from the 1st kick of the game to the last pass.
Pass this mentality to the players see how they deal with it, if they look disinterested and just want to plod on and only come alive when the ball is near them wip them till they change their view, try and drill into them a chase is only as good as the last man in the line or a break is only a break when a support runner is there to help.
2) Physical / Mental fitness of players need addressing, we seem knackered on both aspects, perhaps some fitness drills in training and some more detailed one on one video work might work better try and getinto the players head why they made that decision and what to do next time
3) Try and build some confidnce in themselves, lots of high 5's and congratulations when we force an error / make a good play, doesnt seem much to do but i feel this would help the guys (for example Cashmere layed out a Hull KR man legally and only Broughton ran over to pat him on the back Hull KR scored their final try and the whole team virtualy jumped into the crowd to celebrate) there is lots of talk about being "it in together" but its all words unless i see some action.
4) we need to stop conceeding 12 points round half time, perhaps a plan needs setting up where we slow the play down with 3 /5 to go find touch and walk to the scrum, lay down get some treatment ect anything to make the clock tick on and get some oxygen back into your lungs, bend the rules to our advangate we are far to nice.
Thats it for now there maybe more...

| When things aren't going to plan I think it's easy sometimes to over analyse and find lots of smaller less significant problems that make everything appear much worse.
The single biggest problem Salford have had in Superleague over recent years is the team don't make enough meters with the ball.
[uMetres In Superleague[/u
2011 - Currently Bottom
2010 - Finished Bottom
2009 - Finished Next To Bottom
2008 - (Not in Superleague)
2007 - Finished Bottom
I can't stress this point enough, until we get a new coach who will address this major problem in Salford's game we will not progress as a team. Things have to change to improve this key area. Is it a combination of strength, stamina, speed, footwork, aggression and players running too flat on to the ball? Is enough emphasis going into helping the players/team improve this very important area of the game? What could be done differently in training or tactically?
For years Alker got the blame off some fans for slow distribution at the ptb but it obviously wasn't the problem. The club signs lots of new players for 2011 and we are still bottom in this area, why? It has to have something to do with preperation, fitness, aggression and attitude.
Is it unfair to question if we have players that don't want to give it everything they have for Salford. It's like the saying "Run through a brick wall" how many of these do we have at Salford?
Interestingly when we finished 5th in 2006 we were the fifth highest meter makers.
Sort this out and Salford will start winning more games and climbing the ladder!

| I would say let the coach coach choose the players he needs and Steve simms not to get involved in areas the coach wants to have a say on. Build confidence and fitness and bring back a bit of stability back to the club

As has been said by many times before by several on this forum, the coach does choose the players, Simms only negotiates the contracts with their agents.

Interestingly Salford are 7th in the total number of carries (Possession) and 14th in metres made. We are also the only team in Superleague not to average over 6 metres a carry.
[uAverage Metres Per Carry 2011 [/u
Huddersfield 6.88
Warrington 6.81
Crusaders 6.64
Wigan 6.5
Catalans 6.5
Castleford 6.5
Quins 6.48
Saints 6.42
Leeds 6.41
Hull KR 6.37
Hull 6.32
Wakefield 6.21
Bradford 6.18
Salford 5.87
* Stats from Superleague website
The only positive is that we have improved on last years average of 5.47. In the 2006 season we achieved 6.89 and finished 5th.

| I agree with most comments but for me the biggest let down is our line speed. How often do we see the opposition make easy yards while we struggle to make 5 or 6. We seem to always be prepared to let the opposition run at us, maybe this is down to confidence of the player to right and left. We have to develop a fast line speed as a team unit.

| i think all the above need addressing but i think the new coach needs to be allowed to clear out the back room staff if he thinks certain people are up to the job the fair enough but i think we need new fitness coach which we seem to lacked for a long time , possibly a nutritional coach as fitness etc is huge along with the players diet seeing on twitter what some of are player post is it does not seem there is any guides in what they need to be eating hearing them going nandos , costa cafe etc DJ wonting ice cream just seems to show there is nothing in place away from the club .
you compare the size of other players in the league to are's there muscles are bulging from all the work they have done in the off season. we just do not look fit enough or strong enough to compete consistently in this league.

| I'd be happy with just enforcing that we play the basics right. Good ball control, stop the silly penalties, bring the line up quickly and together in defence. You know the stuff you learn at school. Get us doing this right and then work on the other bits.

It depends if they're having Frappuccinos with cream on???!!! Roughly one thousand calories a drink, probably isn't a good supplement to an athletes diet. That said, the players shouldn't be forced to live in a low fat sterile bubble.
Feka, on the other hand, needs a strict regime.

Hopefully they won't be having the high calorie drinks but as you say they shouldn't be forced to live in a bubble. It also comes down to the amount of calories they are burning in training and during a game etc... When I'm out on my bike I can burn anywhere between 1000 - 3000 calories depending on the distance and intensity. A high calorie drink doesn't look to bad a treat in view of those calories burned.

| I guess in the pre-season, if they're doing strength training, they'll need to consume mega amounts of calories anyway.
