| 5 games in :
Celtic - Loss
Saints - Loss
Wakey - Win
Wigan - Loss
Leeds - Loss
The stats below are for the first 4 games.
Shipping a total of 182 points. An average of 30.9 points per game.
Posting a total of 94 points. An average of 18.9 points per game.
SL Tries Teams / Totals (9th Position)
Position / Tries
9 Salford 15 Tries
10 Castleford 15
11 Wakefield 15
12 Huddersfield 14
13 Harlequins 13
14 Catalans 12
SL Most Tackles made. (3rd Position) Reverse order of most tackles made
1 Huddersfield 1340
2 Hull 1291
3 Salford 1290
Penalties - 7th from bottom with 9 penalties!
Meters - 9th from top with 4796 meters made.
Clean breaks - 4th from top with 21 made!
Missed tackles - 3rd best record so far with only 4 and only Bradfurt and Huddersfield better
Not bad stats all in all. Better in areas were we look poor in play.
I feel with these stats in Place and more settled team playing for the full 80 and for one another we will improve. We look uncoached at times and I feel we've done well to churn the stats and results out we have. The lads are willing we just need someone to fuel there fire as a team and someone who can teach them upto speed SL rugby.
So 5 games in. Should be 2 wins instead of 1 but Celtic were always going to be up for it and had a point to prove. Had we have faced them now I feel it would be a completely different story. Only our first live game on sky will prove my point.
On a player level tackle stats for Salford are as follows.
Position (SL overall tackles made)
7 Luke Adamson 137
7 Matthew Smith 137
8 Stephen Wild 136
The lads aren't in any other top 25 stats for tries tackles meters made etc apart from:
Clean Breaks
Pos:7 Luke Patten 4 made
Marker Tackles :
Pos:8 Luke Adamson 25 made
40/20
Pos:1 Daniel Holdsworth 1 made
Remember Leeds game not included in stats.
Next 5: Predictions
Hull Kr: Loss
Catalans: Win
Crusaders: Win
Castlefield: Loss
Bradford: Win
Maybe a little hopeful but not impossible depending. But 3/5 would be nice and certainly in line with our top 8 hopes hehe.

| Anyone know what they class as a missed tackle? If a player gets an offload out does that class as a missed tackle? Last night we let Leeds offload a lot, and in many cases their breaks didn't so much come from a missed tackle as from a MISSED tackle - by that I mean that a player didn't attempt a tackle and fall off, I mean that a player didn't get close enough to try to effect a tackle in the first place. You can be the best technical tackler in the world, but if the defensive structure is naff, then there will be gap to be exploited.

| A missed tackle is someone who has been bumped off, missed a tackle due to being in the wrong position, outpaced or stepped. So if an attempt to make a tackle has been made, but the tackle was never completed. If the attacking player gets an offload out, then the tackle gets put in as an offload tackle, not a missed

| Only one thing for it... sack the whole coaching staff and start again, they are not good enough with or without McRae and Simms can go with them, stealing a living that bloke, which other club has a position he fills at their club??? They are not fit enough (which was said after the first game in Cardiff) and the defence is the worst in the league by some way (i include a patched up Wakey side in that too) - look at what Quins are doing with good coaching and some belief and unity in the team (not papertalk and other cack being spouted in the M.E.N/Advertiser)

| I am really concerned that we will not win another game until Wakey come to the Willows on the 3rd June. The only other games we have a chance with IMO are Bulls and Hull FC at home, assuming there will be a significant crowd to cheer the boys home.

| I may be living more in hope than expectation, but I still think we could turn a corner and start getting some results over the next five games. I'll be there again on Friday come what may. COME ON YOU REDS!

| TBH, with the exception of Celtic, any realistic Salford fan wouldn't be expecting wins from Leeds, Wigan and Saints. The teams around the bottom half will probably lose their corresponding fixtures to these teams. For me, the crucial time comes in the next few fixtures, with players starting to come back and playing teams that we are capable of competing with.
Should be interesting...

| No your right there, but with the exception of wigan we were playing 2 vastly reduced sides who should've been there for the taking. Instead of Mali.g the most of it we shipped in huge points differences.
It will interesting especially if the team don't win the must win games against the so called "lesser" opposition

I would agree that with not expecting to beat the three teams mentioned if they have all their best players available and we have all ours. The problem for me arises when Leeds have a substantial number of players missing compared with our list of three, one of whom Gleeson, is not guaranteed to displace the current starting centres.
Even under those circumstances I still would not expect Salford to win but I would at least expect a serious flogging to be avoided.

| Judging by today's results, floggings are going to be the norm in SL. Hudds putting 50 past Bradford and Hull putting 40 on the Crusaders. SL being SL, the same teams could play next week and the results could by totally different.
I wouldn't be overly disheartened at the points we've shipped, sure, a lot needs doing to tidy-up our defense, but it's no different than what most teams are going through. With the exception of Crusaders, our defense has come apart against Saints, Wigan, and Leeds, and even if they have vastly inferior sides on the park, they are still more than capable of turning anyone over.
I think our situation is partly of our own doing, and partly due to a very tough set of opening fixtures. The big question is, can we pick ourselves up mentally for games we should be competing in from now on?

But the Leeds we faced had 7 first teamers missing - and yet we still couldn't give them a decent game - it does show just how far we've got to go. Steve Simms was spot on - you have to play for 80 minutes, we don't seem capable of doing that once the going gets tough

This the worrying thing. A team considerably weakened yet we ended up flogged. If we'd had 7 missing as opposed to 2 then it would have been understandable. As it is it's a worry.

| I think people should forget the hype around us having the 'best team in years please buy a season ticket' that the Club spouted. Good marketing yes, close to the truth? No. At least not yet. If you understand that regardless of what team we put out, teams like Leeds, Saints and Wigan are always going to put stronger sides out than us, even if they are full of youth players. After all, those youth players are playing at Wigan, Saints, and Leeds for a reason.
Give it another five games and see where we are. I think that will give a more realistic outlook. Basing judgement on only playing three of the top five sides in SL, a rusty first game at a neutral venue (In Wales against the Welsh) and a poor Wakey side would, imo, be jumping the gun a little.

| We said before the season started it was always going to be a very hard start.
Wigan,Saints and Leeds. 3 out of our first 5 games. Can we expect to beat them?
Crusaders have a very good team and were high on confidence after last seasons finish, also they would have wanted to win desperately playing on home soil in Wales.
Wakefield very low on confidence after going into administration and having a very poor squad I think we were always going to win that match.
Next Five...All winnable in my eyes but I would be very happy if we could pick up 3 wins out of those 5 games, anything less ins't good enough if we have any hopes of finishing in the playoffs.
Improve the defence and we will start winning games!
