| In Saturdays Evening News,Kevin Ashcroft,a person I never saw give less than 100%
said Quote John needs someone to talk to right now and be told how things really are at Salford-not how they should be. I really sympathise with the man but John will never have success at Salford until he removes those from within the club who I feel are only concerned with self-indulgence'"
any thought,s on this.

| Sounds about right, fair comment I would say. There is deadwood at Salford and the club needs a massive and positive overhaul

| It's not the first time he's gone public about Salford under achieving. Perhaps he see's people who have been at this club a long time and the club just making up the numbers year after year. Personally I think he may have a point but I also feel the clubs shortcomings are also down to a lack of finances to compete on an equal footing with the big boys of Superleague. This club is crying out for new investment and perhaps the new stadium could just help to attract new investors like it did for Warrington?

| I wonder if he is refering to Malc Alker? If so I agree with him.I think he had, and still has far too much influence at the club, and over certain players.

| Regarding Malcolm Alker having too much influence,I am not sure who is in a position to judge.
However,in general terms, having a long serving player carrying on in a coaching capacity rarely works.
I suspect it would be better all round if he had started his professional coaching career somewhere else, with no baggage.

| i said this about alker when we first appointed him. It seemed like the club went soft and thought they had a duty to offer him a position. New guys with new ideas would have been better IMO.

| I never quite understood how it came to pass that after having been identified as one of the culprits at the pre-season training camp and having the captaincy taken off him it was then restored to him.
It seemed to mark a point where he became bigger than the club.

| Regardless of what he did in his career Ashcroft shuold butt-out.
If he's got something to say to JAW, say it to him - not to the press.
At best, he's become 'rent-a-comment' for poor journos.

I don't think he has tbh with you? Imo he's stating exactly what we all know, (even supporters who like to bury their heads in the sand). Personally i think he means the likes of Simms and a few of the backroom staff some who have been their 10/15 years who are merly using their position at Salford to collect a wage instead of putting all their blood sweat and tears into their roles like staff at most other big clubs do.
A good old clear out before the move to barton i think?

Don't disagree with you (or him for that matter) but there are two seperte issues - the comments he's made (which are quite possibly valid) and the fact he's made them (none of his business, no reason for him to be asked about it, no reason for him to comment) hence my annoyance.
He's only one step up from Garry Schofield in that respect!?

| I find Kevin's comments quite hypocritical. He convinced the chairman to take over the club when he was coach all those years ago and then left shortly after when Warrington offered him the coaches job. Is this the kind of thing you mean when you talk about self indulgence in the article Kevin?

What is Steve Simms' role and how is he performing it badly?

| I would take everything Mr Ashcroft says with a pinch of salt. He's the no 1 "go to guy" for the MEN for a "please tell why x is rubbish and not as good as it was in your day" story with Murphy and Bamford close behind. He hardly covered himself in glory in Salford in the late 80s
