| Now, I'm assuming a few of you live/have lived there. Could you give me some info on what it's like to live there? Crime levels, dodgy area's and general quality of life. That sort of thing...
I'm asking as my 15 year long mission in Mongtown is nearly at its end and I may well be moving to Walkden within the next 6 weeks.
Cheers for any advice you offer in advance.

I'd start by logging into www.police.uk and having at look at the crime map of the area. This will tell you everything you need to know re' any sort of crime or nuisance committed within any specified area.
Having worked in Walkden / Little Hulton, I'd say it's got an excellent library, leisure centre and good schools. There's investment coming into the town through the Tesco's development. I really enjoyed my time there and found a pretty tight knit community who are genuinely interested in improving their lot. Alright, there might be a few knobs about, and one or two areas that could be described as 'dodgy', but on the whole, I think Walkden is as good a place, if not better than most in Salford.

Hmm. Sounds good. It appears to have far more amenities than my current location. It's also a shorter commute to uni for me. As you say, the investment on the area could well create more jobs and a stronger local economy and thus, in theory, less crime which I have to say is the only compartive negative. (Besides the complete lack of scenery although it's only a short train ride away.) According to the above website there's twice as much overall crime. Plus more violent crime and burglary.
On the whole, not too bad so far.
Thanks again.

| Like all places it depends where in walkden you are looking at. Down towards ellenbrook where my dad lives is lovely, towards Little Hulton is horrible.
I'd say that walkden is generally quite a scruffy area from what I know of it. So if you know what area your looking at I could help with more advice.

| First thing you need to know is that for some reason the older locals tend to call it Wogdin.
Lived there for a year or so and never had any problems though there are some real chavvy types who frequent the cricket club I'm lead to believe

Firstly there is North Walkden and then there is South Walkden and there are decent places in both. there are some not so decent places in both areas as well.
Seriously though it does depend on which area you finish up in.
The cricket club is ok apart from the times that Salford lose, City lose, Man Utd lose, Bolton lose and Walkden Cricket lose and if either wins it gets no better.

North Walkden is the place to be, it is where the sun always shines. The south is where you will hear the police sirens 24hrs. The south is also home to Dodgy taxi drivers , in addition, you will be Welcolme in the Cricket club as i need a new drinking partner

| Hahaha. Classic ribbing and plenty of info there. Nice one.
Now, the latest info I have is that I'm gonna be living in the North/North East of Walkden/Wogdin. Perhaps near Moss Lane, Sharp St or Whittle St. The close proximity to Walkden train station being the key selling point.

Trust me, Anything up the hill from Tescos is the north and home to the righteous and the south is full of people with Drink problems, plus it is too close to Swinton. Seriously RP, it isnt a bad place, yeah you get your tools like every where else but there are some nice people like JJ and The origional salford city red and others. ( anyway we are looking for new members for the Taveners cricket team in the pub knock out)

Fook me. I haven't even got there yet and I've been invited into the local cricket team. I've lived in Mongtown for 15 years and some of the locals still can't say hello. I'm almost emotional here...
Oh, I used to sling a cricket bat and ball pretty well in my teens. I'm sure I can contribute.

| Pft. North Walkden, South Walkden, doesn't everyone just pretend it's all Worsley anyway? If you believe their websites, all the businesses on the Oakhill Industrial Estate are located in Worsley.

Sounds good. Not too worried about the lack of pubs as I'm not much of a drinker. I suppose my main question concerns the level of crime. I mean, I currently live in an area where I've occasionally left the doors unlocked at night and not been too concerned. Don't suppose you can get away with this sort of thing over that way???
