| Good question. Probably Wire. Although Wigan or Saints would be fun. As long as we put a friendly on against Swinton as the very last game, I'm easy.

| I hope the club does a DVD on the history of Salford playing at the willows from the 1st game ever played there right through to the last game , presented and commentary from our 1 and only legend Sir John Wilkinson.

Think that was the sentiment expressed at the last Forever Reds meeting - if we're in the mix for the play-off spots on the last day of the season would you rather be playing someone at the top or bottom?

In one sense I agree, yes let's give ourselves the best chance of winning our lat game at the old girl but in another sense, surely we should be looking to beat anyone at home, especially in our last game at the Willows and what better team to beat but the most successful team in RL, Wigan. Now, think back t the at time the place was Really full, and what memories that brings!
[size=85*And besides Wigan bring the most fans, on average, every year.[/size

| How's about, we don't stop playing at the Willows until we win? A bit like when kids (Gav) play board games and there's always someone that insists on "just one more game" until they eventually win.

| Anyone considered it could be Swinton who play the last rugby match at the Willows not Salford? That is if we fail to make the top 4 and Swinton have a good season in NL2 and make the play-offs.

| I mentioned it previously but come this time next season when the dust has settled on the SL season and we've won the grand final our thoughts will turn to the 4 Nations, from memory the teams that come on tour always play the odd warm up game what better than a full blooded game against either the Aussies and Kiwi's to bring down the final curtain.

I think a touring team would be a fitting end. Although i would be worried we could live or have a chance against either the Aussies or Kiwi's but how about the French? After all, they gave us our nickname and be a good close match i would bet.

That ought to make Swinton a nailed on certainty for our last ever game there, even if it does have to be a "friendly".

I can see your point but doubt there's any Salford fan who wouldn't want to see players of the caliber of Lockyer, Falau and Slater playing at the Willows. Ok there's a good chance we'd get beaten heavily but I'm sorry it's as much about the majesty of the last team we face and the game we get to watch as the result for me.
If that's the case then we maybe have an ex players game of say 20 mins each way before hand.

I was only joking really but I do think this is a good question. I voted for Warrington as that seems to have become the nearest we have to a derby these days and I feel it needs to be a competitive match to make it really feel worthwhile and get the crowds in. Wigan was my other choice mainly because it always a good atmosphere and of course because of [ithat[/i match - the greatest ever for most of my generation of fans I think
If we're in the playoffs I think head would have to rule heart as it did when Saints chose Huddersfield over Wigan. I understand the need for a high intensity game as preparation for the playoffs but also a big confidence boosting win where we're less likely to pick up injuries could be good too
Also I'ld be gutted if we got battered in the last game at the Willows (although it could be considered an appropriate end for fans who started watching after 1980 )
A touring team would be an interesting one - the French for the link to the nickname is good but i wonder if it would draw in the crowds. We need a full stadium and a decent atmosphere
Maybe against a combined touring team with free entrance for fans of all clubs (after the interest from Salford has been accommodated) to come and pay their respects to the greatest Weaste based stadium in the world!!
The ex-players curtain raiser is a great idea - although it would be even better if we could restage the Wigan Challenge Cup game - get all the players from both teams back together....
As long as we spend all 80 minutes singing "TAKE ME HOME....." it'll be reet

| I am getting all sad again reading this,
the last game will it be a celebration or a time of mourning?
personally i have been going to the Willows since 1967, apart from family it has been the main constant in my life, so I don't know who we will play but i will need some hankies to keep wiping the tears away, all the memories and characters who I have stood with will all come rolling back.

| In the context of us having a Derby match, why not have a double header. Salford U20s v Swinton to start the evening off, and then Salford (SEN) v, I would like to say Australia, but the French might prove a better option, as I think next seasons team would be worthy of a win against them.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the 'Les Diables Rouges' title earnt on tour, whereas I'm pretty sure we've had some famous victories Aussie touring sides at the Willows.
I do think something should be done outside the normal season!!!!!

| it will deffo be a sad occasion for me reflecting back on when my old fella first took me sat in seats in front of the main stand opposite the Shed - think I was about 5 and think we were playing Widnes?
I hope we can fill The Willows for the last ever game with mainly Reds fans

| Surely the last game at the willows should be a repeat of the very first played there against Swinton.Commerative kits could be produced similar to those worn in the first game all those years ago and could be auctioned off to local charities.Im sure that if promoted well this could be very successful, they could even have past players making the odd appearance during the game itself.Something similar was done to mark the end of watersheddings where swinton were also the very first visitors.

I agree why not play the last match against Swinton on Wednesday 21st December 2011? This would then be exactly 110 years to the day of the first ever match? Plus the players are back in training at this time so I couldn't see it being a problem. It could also be treated like a pre season friendly for both clubs.
